    Thank you so much for the video it really helped a lot! I am new to all of this so I am trying to learn as much as I can. If you use a sliver plated tea set a few times a week, do you recommend polishing it after every use? Or just gently cleaning it? Thanks so much!

    The lady at the antique shop said that the top might be a different kind of metal then the base of the ice bucket and there’s a like mercury glass layer inside and that she has it like an attached glass bowl on the inside that does not come out and it has a little piece that holds the lid on so when you lift it to get ice it just all goes it once the handle in the lid it all stays together it’s really neat but I was hoping I could get it looking more like silver but I never heard of GOL Lee or Cole silver before so I’m assuming that’s a different name for pleaded?
    Just wondering what product to use on something like this.

    This is great. I just got a pair of sterling silver C J Vance Ltd candle holders which I found were made in London in 1967. They need one heck of a good cleaning and I would have used silvo before I saw this video. Anyone know how to determine the value of these candle holders (not just scrap silver content value)? They weigh about 8.5 Troy Ounces each.

    Many thanks for the information - what is your view on the silver cleaning plates that are used with soda please - I have a quantity of silver plate and it looks quite a good way of not rubbing the silver and letting the chemical reaction do the work but I'm unsure?

    • @AntiquesArena
      @AntiquesArena  6 років тому +2

      Hi Peter, Thanks for your comment, i use the soda and water on silver plate also just be careful there are no parts that can get damaged by the hot water, maybe even try one piece and see how you fair, i use it on my silver and silver plate but i would recommend you test your plate first just incase its worn but it seems to be a better alternative than rubbing the plate off with wadding.

    • @tiggslumps
      @tiggslumps 6 років тому

      Antiquesarena Many thanks for your quick reply - I’m sorry but I don’t think I described the “plate” properly - it’s a plate that you buy and put into a washing up bowl with baking soda and hot water and this apparently creates a reaction to remove tarnish, you then place the silver plated items into the sink and this will remove the tarnish. Do you know of this?

    This is the worst thing you can do to silver. Pastes contain micro particles that remove tarnish and silver as well. Silvo is a wadding based cleaner that is impregnated with a liquid cleaner. Goddard paste gets into crevices and is impossible to remove.

      Employing a servant to carry out such tasks is the traditional method. Minor members of your family will do. In our house my mother was the polishing fiend. If you stood still for too long it could be risky. No ornament was safe.

    Happened on this, nice. Shame someone did so much damage to the wine cooler, wonder if one of those re-plating liquids fill in the scratches.
    The concern is using paper towels, as when drying glasses one does not use them, so must be abrasive? Also, never put a cardboard box on automotive paintwork, will scratch it. Thanks in advance.
