I stopped using trail cameras a few years ago. I would get loads of pictures of big bucks but always in the dark. It got very frustrating to know that these bucks were passing through my stand area but I would rarely see them during shooting light. Nothing I could do would get them to change their habits so I just stopped using trail cameras. Now I really appreciate it when I see or harvest a nice buck because there is no expectation, it’s all Christmas morning surprise!
David you mentioned trail cams and people not being surprised at what deer may step out. Well that is exactly why I don't use them. I get much more satisfaction out of scouting and knowledge about when and where to be rather than rely on a trail cam. I know they will never be illegal but I think they should be during the season and up to 30 days prior. To me they detract from the overall experience and satisfaction of harvesting a nice big mature buck. There's so much more thrill and anxiety when a big buck that you didn't know of steps out. Another reason we're in the golden age to is because we went from saying mature bucks were 4.5-5.5 to now saying 5.5-6.5. Few guys like Lee Lakosky think they actually don't grow or even shrink their 5th year and pass a certain few to see what they do at 6.5 and that's how he has killed like 6 that gross over 200 just by giving the deer 2 more years... Im from south eastern Indiana and I wish upon wishes that we Illinois Ohio Kentucky and even Michigan would adopt Iowas rules and regulations. Earn a buck archery season bows only crossbows for youth under 18 and disabled or with a doctors clearance. Otherwise crossbows in gun season only. Archery season starts the 3rd Saturday in September untill gun season starts December 1st. Also you shouldn't be allowed to kill any bucks with 6 points or less. I know that will never happen but if it did Indiana would be the dead center of a Whitetail mecca in 5-8 years... Just my opinion and I'm a nobody not trying to convince anyone to change their point of view on any one topic so negative comments about this post will be ignored because its merely an expression of my beliefs whether their stupid or valid or not....
People can hunt however they want to. People don’t have to hunt the way you want them to. You’ve lost your mind in a lot of ways. You have so many guidelines that you want everybody else to hunt by.
I can sit and listen to David speak all day long. So wise and Godly man.
David Blanton. My all time favorite!

🤨 You will not make a buck change his habits. Period. You have to learn his and adapt to it. Find where he spends his daylight hours.
True Sportsmen right right and their priorities are spot on!
