It was due to the hip injuries he sustained from jumping off the piano in heels and doing splits when performing. As he aged, it began to affect him physically. He started taking drugs to alleviate the pain which got worse. He became addicted and unknowingly mixed a drug with what he was taking and it ended his life. Got this info from videos on UA-cam. Also, I read an article by someone who was in constant pain, and they talked about how you would do almost anything to relieve yourself from it.
