2011.12.11 #岡山国際サーキット での #マツダファン・サーキットトライアル でのルマン優勝 #マツダ #787B 55号車。走行前メンテナンス、ウォーミングアップ(暖気)、試走、デモランの様子を収めています。
当日のドライバー #片山義美 氏のトークショーからもほんの一言だけ収録。世界GPを戦った二輪レーサーであり、四輪でもロータリーエンジンの開発及びレーシングドライバーとしてマツダで打倒日産GT-Rを掲げて活躍されていた当時のお話も聞くことができました。片山氏の運転は機関に負担が掛からないとてもスムーズなものだそうで(音で片山氏と分かるほど?)、現在もマツダの開発に携わっておられるそうで裏話も聞けました。

Louder then any f1 car ever built! that i know of at least. This car is 15 decibels higher then the v10 cars at least and over 35 decibels higher then the 2014 f1 cars!

+Timothy Lieuw Where did you get those stats? The v10 3.0L is 152dB @ 1m. If the 787b is 15db louder, it would be at 167dB @ 1m which is comparable to a top fuel dragster. I doubt that's true. I just can't imagine it being much louder if at all louder than a 3.0L V10 at 20000rpm but I might be wrong. Also, if you watch the part where the engine is being warmed up and revved, no one is really covering their ears. Meanwhile, I was at the bossGP this summer and stood 1m from a 2004 v10 3.0L idling and blipping to 10000rpm for oil circulation and it was extremely difficult not to cover my ears.

They should have been, but the engines were too much for competitors to match. Look up the GTU series. From 79-86 the RX7's won GTU with 13b's, while max engine sizes went from 2.5L-3.0L. Mazda used a 1.3L. The same story is said with the GTO championships; From 1982-1992 Mazda was GTO champion while the engine sizes went from 3.0L-3.5L and Mazda used a 1.3L... And even now, we've still got 20-year old FD's winning GT3 championships with 1.3L's... There is no competition for the rotary...
Those sponsors got their money worth on this car.. decade + and I'm still looking at this car

Puts everything else to shame. Its a pity they banned it from entering Le Mans. I think it had to do with fuel consumption rate or some such thing. I don't quite remember the reason for it being banned. Best sound in the world.

wish they would run it full throttle again :-( 10:41 kind of reminds me but it went on and on revving higher and higher. 1991 you could hear it 5 miles away. Scream? no! scream is simply not a big enough word for the noise this car makes. TBH it made the hairs stand up on my neck.

They reduced the rev limiter so they don't have to rebuild it every time it comes out. Probably will never hear it like in 91 ever again
Ok thanks bro but I still think its a shame that they banned it. LeMans could probably be considered as the 'Olympics' of endurance motorsport and so in my humble opinion the rotary engine should be allowed to compete.

In 1992, the le mans rules changed so that all prototypes had to use 3.5 litre v10's. The 2.6 litre inline 4 rotor was not a v10, so it was ineligible for competition.
This is a good vid but the Martin Brundle vid at LeMans is still better & includes in-car. Either one, LUV THAT SOUND!

The governing body of the endurance races for lemans and the like is a highly bureaucratic entity full of politics etc.. When porsche was beating the crap out of everyone in the 80's they enacted standards which made it specifically harder for
that manufacturer to enter the competition. Also look at the fan, skirted, triple axeled, turbo shaft powered, and ground effect cars. I think they were all banned through indirect technicality laws because they were just too good a solution to cornering.

サバンナRX3を乗っていた時は燃料ダンクに穴が空いているかと思ったよ、燃費が悪かったよね出も速かったよスカイラインGTRを抜いた時はスカッとしたね、燃料が安くなれば又乗りたい車だね、あの滑らかな加速のとりこになったら解ると思うよ。
前のように不動のまま保管ではなく、時々火入れをしてあげて実働の状態で残してほしい
