@@RM-pu2mv Gordon D Riders would still defend his king no matter what. His fights were boring, and he wasn’t that dominant. He didn’t really beat Pena this time, plus we all knew Yuri wouldn't be able to beat Gordon. Gordon proudly says he finishes his opponents, but he’s mostly finished guys a lot smaller than him. He hasn’t finished anyone his size recently
CJI was unbelievable
The pit preventing the refs having to stop the rolls due to crossing the boundaries was such a treat!
That made a masssiveeee difference
I was there for both. CJI was a million times better, hands down.
My family doesn't know anything about BJJ sat and watched CJI with me on the TV, they were really intrigued. Big matchups, action oriented ruleset, high stakes and free on UA-cam really made this awesome.

Let's not forget about the fact that I could PAUSE LIVE AND REWIND sick moves or takedowns and also fast forward when there was no action. Nothing compares to this or even comes close.
Open scoring was the best thing I’ve seen in combat sports ever
CJI was amazing. The rule set made it very easy for new fans to understand and it forced the grapplers to be active. Also the production was topnotch. Really looking forward to next year's event and hopefully it does even bigger numbers
We ended up putting CJI back on vs UFC..me & a friend train & the other 5 ppl were casuals. Craig knock it out of the f'n park, can't beleive it's taken this long for someone to do this.

Ya but Levi played his style. I don’t get hating on him working guard. It’s a technique that a lot of people like.
Kade should pull more so he learns to play guard at a high level. Then he might start to understand how to pass high level guards.
@@gornlockheart it’s also not really about what people like or don’t like that’s the crazy part. Maybe it should be, but it isn’t. That wasn’t a part of the judges criteria and unfortunately the criteria changed as the rounds went on. The judges let the crowd decide the match. I had friends that were there, black belts, ADCC refs, they said that’s exactly what happened.
@benkelly7182 that is what I saw. I saw a guy who was afraid to engage the "butt scooter," and couldn't pass Levi's guard in 25 minutes! So Kade talked crap on his opponent's style (and jiu-jitsu) and then stalled, but in an increasingly flashy manner, lol. For some reason they scored the last three rounds differently than the rest. It really sounds like people like the OP want to do/see catch wrestling or something instead of BJJ with its "boring guard." 🤦♂️

I've gone to adcc in person and enjoyed it but the pit is a game changer ESPECIALLY for the big boys.
A lot of heavy weight matches devolved into collar ties and shoving people out of bounds or just stalling and butt scooting
The pit is perfect for bjj and mma. Also live audience can see the fight better vs the cage. Also its CJI, not CGI. No worries we are all calling it CGI.
Its terrible for MMA kind of. Basically all champs will be wrestlers since you are not getting from under one of them next to the pit slope and they will wreck you with GnP there. That is most likely scenario i think. Then again that would once and for all show people what is the single martial art best for this kind of scenario. Because its not BJJ
@hagestad yeah i can see that, but im grappler biased, so i like that. However, there are some mma rules that keep wrestlers safe, but other rules that make it harder. Like no kicks to grounded opponent, however, no knees either, which would be beneficial for a wrestler to knee "grounded" opponents. So... rules are just rules. I prefer entertainment over keeping shit the way it is because it's been the way it's been.
Logistically, would the pit be good enough to standardize you think? I wonder if it gets tweaked a bit so they can make more pits.
No it wouldn't make sense for mma. It was already tried before. Check Yamma fighting. It was such a disaster that they only held one event.

CJI is the Future 💯 % ADCC has 2 Choices either Get Serious or Get Left Behind. Points,Mats, Ref interactions, 3 Matches At Once , commentary didn’t know competitors names , they’d cut from One Match about to finish to open mat nothing happening. Seemed like was filmed on a iPhone compared to CJI imo had better Production it seemed- next year CJi will be happening while ADCC has a off year should be interesting to see the brackets ⛽️
I loved CJI and the rules. In order for the lower levels to see then it would actually have to be a pit. Meaning it goes down into the ground instead of being on top of the ground.

I am a 53 yr old Canadian, and a huge MMA / UFC fan, who has followed since day 1, UFC 1, 1993 . I have been a fan of martial arts since a child, grew bup watching /idolizing all Bruce Lees movies , etc., and was mostly just a fan of just STRIKERS/STRIKING. But ; the last few year,, maybe4-5 years ,I HAVE REALLY BEEN WANTING/WISHING= to join and learn BJJ/GRAPPLING/WRESTLING , etc.. I havent taken the plunge, NOR ;have I EVER watched a SINGLE BJJ MATCH/TOURNAMENT. ( "UNTIL : MY VERY FIRST TIME WATCHING A ; BJJ MATCH= and I watched , both,; the entire two-day tournament : CJI 1, . And it was amazing, very entertaining and exciting. I CAN NOT WAIT FOR NEXT ONE.
It’s never too late to learn jiu jitsu mate. Just take the plunge, I guarantee you’ll not regret it, it’s a life changer.
I am also a 53 year old Canadian. Started watching with UFC 3 on VHS tape back in the day when I was in college. Just started BJJ this year. Highly recommend it. It will greatly increase your appreciation of the various techniques used (as well as numerous other benefits). Hope you can find a good club to join.
I would say you need to find the right gym - where there are no people who hurt you through carelessness or aggression. BJJ has a very high rate of injury to players. Most long-term players have something messed up. Their back, their neck, some joint or joints. You also have to deal with hygiene issues, picking things up from the mats if it's not kept clean etc. So go for it, but check out places around you until you find the right one.
It means a ton for you to accredit this event. I was in from inception, but couldn’t believe what it felt like to wait to watch it all on b team channel. Was a great weekend. I truly feel that event was the right thing at the right time.
Such a great observation with the pits slanted walls and having to be more aggressive or you risk get taking down and being on bottom!
It was amazing. The event was GREAT. ADCC was also incredible. CJI was wild for me and my guys tho. I was in the front row with the other Six Blades guys who were staying at the house me & Victor Hugo got for the week. When Victor got caught in the heel hook, that’s the most upset I’ve ever been after a fight…none of us talked for 10 minutes. He took it like a man…sat mat side for the entire rest of the event, and knowing him…it sets the stage for a massive run at next year’s event. He thrives on the high stakes. He’s the best guy in the world off the mat. Every person on earth who knew him in person would root for him every time he fights.

As an MMA fan and not necessarily a grappling fan, CJI was awesome! I watched nearly all the matches and didnt get bored at all. Well done by Craig and the team!
The pit is superior over the mat and cage for BJJ and MMA.

For MMA it would give advantage to wrestlers/BJJ guys since you can't defend takedowns using the octagon.

Wow coach. Your first three minutes of this video are so impressive. I’m 💯 with you. We need the pit in all jiujitsu matches and we need to get rid of the points. As a Gracie jiujitsu practitioner, I never really liked the point system.
In the WWF they did a special "Lions den" cage match with Ken shamrock that was an angled circular cage. It was intended to mimic UFC without the octagon. Something like that may work. This was in the late 90s I think.

Cji looked like they displayed one match so you could watch live , adcc had multiple Mats and divisions so they had more then one Mat at a time going so the cameras would focus on who adcc chooses to show
Best Grappling show ive ever seen for all the reasons you mentioned. We also got some of the greatest matches ever. Its very clear ADCC have been robbing the athletes over the years too. Not paying people at all is completely insane. Some of the scoring in ADCC is stupid too. CJI perfect format. Judges maybe need a little more consistency in judging and should have started earlier but ruleset and the pit were on point.

its the evolution of the sport, I was only a hobbyist blue belt almost a decade ago but I like keeping up with whats going on in the sport and this is the only time my friends have ever been interested, B Team is entirely to thank for that, their youtube, their humor, their personalities and now the CJI with the best rules/aesthetics in the sport
Completely agree about prize money, the million is huge for the first time but 100k is still impressive, hopefully they can continue to pay all the participants well too but that's essentially UFC money
Levi did great despite playing almost exclusively guard. Both Rutuolo brothers didnt have a good answer, they never passed. Offensively he could have done a bit more and he would have won the final. The berimbolo style mixed with the leglocks makes for a really solid guard game. Interested to see how that evolves.
Yeah agreed. I didn't like the crowd booing Levi - he was displaying a lot of skill. And in the end he lived and died by his method, because as much as Kade didn't unlock his defence, he didn't take it to Kade enough either.
I agree, love the pit, loved the rounds, judges scoring, and also fairness aspect. Exciting. Continous action. And also the in between round restrategizing
I think it was a great show. Loved the pit. Even the 3 rounds worked out better than I thought. Over all a great show. Pushing the sport forward. It’s great.
I liked not only the function of the pit but the aesthetic as well. It was like spectators in the colosseum watching gladiators in some desperate fight for life.
I loved it. Tons of fun. Exciting matches, big pay out and great narrative behind the whole thing.
No boring match, except the -80kg final haha which is only interesting if you already know BJJ quite well
I hope CJI goes to three 8 person brackets next. -70 womens, -70 mens, -90 mens and 3 superfights. They could also eventually just do ranked opponents with initial champions crowned by the tournament
Yes the 80 plus was beyond boring. Easiest 1million of Nicky rods life. Most of the heavies were at adcc
Its the first time I was not bored and as soon as they hit thr wall you know something excited its going to happen
CJI was easy to watch. Easy to follow along and entertaining. The alley/pit made it nice to not have to reset every 15 seconds. Easy to score especially with the open scoring.

How is the diagonal for the spectator might be a little difficult, but I definitely agree that it definitely helps them not make any stops to the fight and keep the guys going.
Cji made me sit down and watch hours of bjj, something I dont even do as a practitioner

CJI was a game changer. The Pit (Alley) made for continuous action, and the entire event had Personality, it was fun

Agree with all. The million was a great advertising tool for the first edition, but I guess they'll not repeat it, some fighter knew he was not going to go to the end and I think did not really give 100%, due to the lack of incentives to pass to the next round.
The alley is incredible. Just the amount of time that stopped being wasted with referee resets alone. Half of every ADCC match is the referee breaking and resetting the fighters. It’s amazing how much better the sport is without that

Those adcc guys clearly sück äsś , they dont pay people and like to threaten others with assasination. We need more people as clever as Craig everywhere. Anyone saying athletes needed to be loyal to adcc cause they have been around for so long was freaking blind. Thanks Craig

100% felt the same thing, watched CJI day one then on Saturday it was ADCC day 1 and i couldn't deal with all the resets... like just blue balling yourself over and over,.
*1. WITH ADCC* only every 2nd year, CJI could really cement itself by going again next year. Or... will ADCC get scared and switch to annual.
*2.* The long-term success of CJI will need a production team who bring structure, consistency, and professionalism to all aspects of the tournament, while Craig Jones is still able to inject his creativity, energy, and random genius and the whole thing doesn't become completely corporate.
*3.* Who was the sponsor of the Invitational? We need to know so we can evaluate whether they felt there was a return on their investment - and not necessarily a financial one. Did they get the personal satisfaction of being involved in something awesome and evolutionary? If they don't pony up again, Craig Jones needs to round up the funding for 2025 from multiple sources ASAP.
*4.* Will Sheik Tahnoun Bin Zayed Al Nahyan have sat long into the night after that weekend of BJJ and thought hard about the future? Would he send a private plane to collect Craig Jones and invite him to Abu Dhabi for a face-to-face meeting to discuss the possibility of a merger? Or will he want to crush the CJI somehow?

The significance of an entire lack of resets can't be understated. The action just continued against the wall, usually dramatically

Ive always wanted to see simultaneous triple scoring (ibjjf, adcc, Olympic judo) to see how each grappling style would score a round.

120k for the winner and 20k to show up would still be good. 20k for most exciting fire and 40k for submission of the night is still good too.

It was so good it represents how effective grappling is in it's essence of an actual fight constant jousting for position and urgency just minus the strikes, traditional ibjjf style matches just kill even what grappling looks like in an actual conflict and I feel like that's important for getting new people involved because they look at 2 people stalling and they just think this is rubbish that would never work in a real fight why would I want to learn this but CJI shows what it actually looks like

You don’t have to have a lower attendance for a pit you just have to put the pit lower into the ground or raise the seating
If the CJI format as well as the pit was more widely adopted in jiu jitsu, do you think there would be a flow on effect where jiu jitsu becomes more effective in modern MMA? Seeing the amount of submission attempts in the space of a 5 minute rounds by some fighters was wild.
