- Apple pencil vs smart pen for digital note-taking. Writing on paper vs electronic devices has a number of advantages - but it can be challenging to then convert those handwritten notes to digital form.
The LiveScribe pen balances the ability to write on paper with the conveniences of capturing your notes digitally.
Over the years, I've used the LiveScribe pen as my note-taking capture device for when I wanted to create hand-written notes and didn't have my Apple iPad or Microsoft Surface handy. Or, maybe I just didn't want to have to open them, power them on, worry about the battery - or have the tactile feel of writing on glass.
The LiveScribe smartpen also allows me to share my notes by giving the physical note or sticky note to someone else, but retain a digital copy for myself.
In this video, I'll discuss the advantages of a smartpen and some of the limitations of electronic note-taking that the smartpen helps solve.

Hello, thank you for your video, for some of us this is new and costly, so a video is very usefull to see this differences.
Hi
Very interesting. Did u find a way to sync with apple notes? I have thousand of notes and don’t want to start using another App.
Thanks!
Hi, Thanks for the Vid, I watch your videos and have had some great tips and tricks to add to my workflow. But not sure on this one. As far as I could tell the digital notes appear to be a graphic copy without text conversion. I have been using Google notes for years to quickly capture my hand written notes and docs, this keeps digital copies and can convert to text. I can then use the text in other documents. Thanks.
The handwritten notes can be converted 🙂 it’s pretty cool. I didn’t show that part of the smart pen software, but it is a function of the software.
Hey Frank! I remember those devices eep!! Haha
Excellent vid. I’ve never actually done this to get my notes onto a device but I can definitely see the advantages of doing so.
Hope you have a great day my friend! 😊
apple pencil vs smart pen for digital note taking 👌 👍😊❤️✅ Woww.. keren Guys 😘😍😉😉
I am curious and would like to know more about your productivity ecosystem; which software are you using and how are using them, what does your hybrid approach look like?
Briefly, I base my system on the GTD (Getting Things Done) structure that is presented in the book of the same name.
My plan has always been to create some videos here on the channel about it - so hopefully soon.
Hi Frank, Thank you for the video, very helpful. However, what is the software you are using with the pen? Thanks, Si
The liveScribe software is included with the LiveScribe Smartpen 🙂
@@LearningandTechnology Thank you, Sir, OK, very familiar with the software, however, I could not find their Wkeely Planner 2021, Size 145X200mm Paper 80G. I learned a lot from, your video, even so, I have been using the Aegir with Livescribe for a few years now. Thank you again. Si
Is there a way to add hashtags to live scribe notes? I know that there are the three categories on each page, but curious if I add hashtags can I then find them with a search. The struggle I have is not carrying multiple notebooks, , another for tasks, etc.
I haven’t tried adding hashtags and searching for them, but it should theoretically work because you can search the notes.
Hello. Do you have to have the iPad to record on the echo 2 pen? Thank you
I use my iPhone to record with the LiveScribe pen. I haven’t worked with the Echo2, but it says it’s compatible with Android, IOS, Windows and Mac
Hi, Livescribe smartpens only work with Livescribe dot paper.
Can you comment please?
Basically, the Livescribe smartpens only works with Livescribe paper. The Livescribe Smartpen has an infrared camera in it. The infrared camera "tracks" the movement of the pen using the very small dots on the Livescribe paper. I like the concept of Livescribe but I think the one flaw is having to use the Livescribe paper. If Livescribe goes out of business and stop making their paper, you are stuck with a useless smartpen. But to be honest, I am going back to using my Livescribe 3 Smartpen after over five years of non-use. I am praying that Livescribe continues to stay in business and make their paper. Hope this helps.
@@michaelsanders5938 Thanks!
I'm thinking an optical mouse sensor put in there could have written anything even it's not paper :)
After Livescribe you can continue typing in MS OneNote, as a hint.
I thought you would be showing apple pencil review
I don't know. Doesn't seem much different from just writing on common paper with a common pen and then take a picture of it or scan it.
It’s digitally stored in the pen - so it’s different in that regard. You certainly could take a picture (or, better - use Microsoft Lens App - I have a video on that)
However, this is a bit different - you don’t need a phone
What does the what does Apple Pencil have to do with any of this?
Is the Livescribe pen compatible with windows 10 and 11?
Yes - there is the LiveScribe + Desktop Application that I run and sync on my Windows 11 System.
My own workflow is more IOS to OneNote sync, but I have the Windows program installed and I have synced to it.
We need digital to Physical paper 📝 😅 this is all we have right now
U can use the livescribe pen on any papers doesn't need to be using papers from livescribe or? And the ink refill is it easily find in any stationary stores in the world?
No and no :) - sort of...
The LiveScribe is a system and you need to plan accordingly. I order the noteooks, sticky note, refills, and special paper a couple times a year.
However, you "can" print your own paper refills and the ink refills are just refills (it isn't any type of special ink) - so a refill of the same size would work.
@@LearningandTechnology I’m
Looking at getting a livescribe pen or a new tablet. I’m still not convinced re pen
@@lwo4078 the pen is a bit more specialized. I’d recommend a tablet with stylus for most people
The recording and notes sounds good.
But really my tablet will do both simultaneously anyway.
Bringing in sticky notes is a distraction. Getting special paper for disposable notes and making sure I have it with me? Really?
Then let's face it. It's a biro! Horrid to write with.
The key to all productivity is simplicity.
Pens works best with straight paper. Get them anywhere, reliable and convenient.
Writing with a smart pen and a touch sensitive screen works well too.
This just complicates matters. The ease and convenience of any paper and any pen is lost.
Better to choose one of the two horses and stick with it IMO.
And how much one those specially printed note books which few stationers sell cost?
You gave it the best shot anyone could.
I appreciate the input. Or, was that the sales pitch. Whatever.
Not a sales pitch - a comparison. I don’t work for Apple or LiveScribe (it’s not BRIO).
Developing a workflow is important - I use my iPad Pro for 90% of my notes, however as I discuss in the video - something I like to do is write a note, leave it behind, but have a digital copy. For that, I do like the LiveScribe Smartpen. The paper options also allow for a lower friction than having to carry an iPad and turn it on for a quick bite. However, I also use Microsoft Lens App and can take a photo of a “regular” hand written note and convert to text.
Bottom line: each person must explore and develop a personal workflow that meets their needs. The intent of this video was a comparison between two options (not a sales pitch)
Oh - direct answer to the paper cost question. In order about once a year - it’s not as inexpensive as regular paper, but it’s not exorbitant.
Does it only work on dot paper
Yes - you need the special paper (you can print it too)
@@LearningandTechnology thank you. Is there such thing as generic dot paper
@@binaypatel7665 The paper is designed for the pens specifically. You can buy notebooks, paper, etc.
however, you can also print the paper. It’s very light dots, but the pen uses them for positioning etc
@@LearningandTechnology thanks
