I play this game when I watch UA-cam guitar videos. I try to guess how many comments I have to read before I hit the ubiquitous "underrated" comment. Bingo! You win! Very first comment. I'll sit here an ponder how one of the most well respected guitarists in the world could possibly be "underrated" while I enjoy the rest of the video.
Soul stirring solos. The way he plays Further on up the road on Blues Alive compared to the way everyone else plays that song is why I love him. No one let’s it rip like him. RIP brother
I worked with him for nearly 4 years from 1982...one of the best pair of ears in the business and a truly magnificent guitarist...hard for me to choose between him and Jeff Beck. A great loss.
Gary and Jeff were friends and Gary regarded Jeff as being the best living guitarist whilst Jeff said that Gary had the whole blues thing wrapped up. I feel somewhat proud to live close to where Gary grew up in Belfast. It is a pity that Clapton wasn't interested in sharing a stage with Gary but then again, most players seemed to have feared for their reputations where Gary was concerned !
I totally agree. I was lucky to see him live in 1984 on his Victims of the Future tour opening for Rush on their Grace Under Pressure tour. He was amazing!! I have been a humongous fan ever since!! RIP Gary!!
I can still see him now in the control room in my studio "coming down" after a solo...there would be a moment or two when he'd look almost lost in his other world and had to find a way back into the land of us mere mortals ...wonderful and always a gent.
Something that I would have always liked to see is the process that he carried out to create a guitar solo. It sure would have been something worth seeing.
To me it doesn't get better than GM, only different. Whether it's Wes Montgomery, Schenker, Hendrix, SRV, Winter...and on and on. Gary Moore is and will always be one of the Very Finest Indeed, RIP to all the Great Guitar Slingers especially GM!
@@martintramil8084 Joe Pass, Steve Morse, Lenny Breau, Jimmy Page, Les Paul ... the list goes on. So many brilliant guitarists. No one better than the other, just different, amazing talents.
This man (along with Rory Gallagher) is the best Irish guitarist in rock 'n' roll/blues history. I feel blessed that as a very young man, I got to see him, thanks to my much older brothers, who were a huge influence on my musical taste, and although I don't necessarily have the same respect for my elder siblings, due to other factors non musical, I will always be grateful to have been taken to some life changing concerts, such as Gary in the Hammersmith Odeon, and a Thin Lizzy concert in Dublin, in the mid 80's, I think the venue was called the RDS. One of Lizzy"s last ever gigs. Something to tell my grand children, if I ever have any. Gary Moore, you will live on forever through your genius. Richie.
Wow!!! I never knew Gary played on letterman. He was truly in a league of his own, was Gary. There was fire in that man's playing. God rest you, Gary. You are sorely missed. 🔥🙏🇮🇪
Gary Moore...simply doesn't get any better. It just doesn't. The technique, the dynamics, the heart rending emotion. A couple of notes and I well up. And btw - when Les Paul designed this guitar, angels must have whispered to him that an Irish dude named Gary Moore was BORN to play this isntrument
NO ONE LIKE GARY MOORE, NO ONE , THE BEST A GIFTED MAN, A COMPLETE TALENT REST IN HEAVEN MASTER!! I HEAR OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN, SUCH A BEAUTIFUL LOVE SONG PERFORMED BY AN IMPECCABLE, SUPERB MASTER!! WE MISS YOU GARY, BUT YOU ARE PEACEFULLY IN GOD’S HANDS
For me this is the greatest blues song ever. Such a great voice and an incredible incredible way he could make a guitar sing. You are missed my friend.
Wow... I still love the tone that Gary managed to get. So emotional, warm, and fluid. Says a lot about his touch and playing, as well as the classic combo of a Marshall amp and a Les Paul, Gary, may you R.I.P.
@jeffofgertymusic2023 Without sounding like a dick, it’s actually his other Les Paul called “Stripe”. He use that model for the record and live performance but did use Greeny for other songs. You can tell also from the fact that the humbucker pickups are exposed rather than having their covers on like Greeny 👍🏻
Gary pared this classic down for the broadcast and still hit it out of the park! Silky vocals and his guitar taking us along for the ride! Thanks Gary for everything! 🙏❤🙏
R.I.P Gary you were certainly one of the very best and I for one will forever be grateful that I got to see you live a few times and will miss not being able to hear anything new from you but what you left us is priceless
+vibrato6 He is truly one of my favorite guitarists, my brother saw Stevie Ray Vaughn , LIVE, I envy both of you. But I just saw 3 of the last 4 shows for R40, Rush tour. Alex was magnificent. Gary was a virtuoso,
+vibrato6 not trying to argue, but This Is Not his '59 sunburst, he would never take the pick-up covers off & polish it up to look all shiny & new.......once again, this isn't Peter's guitar, sorry.......
+mikeyowen this might not be Peter Greens LP but you are wrong about the color of Greeny-it is a dirty faded lemonburst not a cherry burst-as for the PU covers being off they may have switched them from time to time-the Gibson Collectors choice model called the Melvyn Franks is actually Peters guitar and it has the covers on and Grover tuners but the later Gary Moore Model from 2000 (which I own) has the covers off and Kluson style tuners-both of them have the pickguard off- he might have had his tech switch things up-the guitar in the clip is definitely not shiny and looks old to me-maybe they rented it for the show-either way Gary was great and is missed
I remember watching this live on Letterman right before going to bed. Now I can watch it all the time. Best musical guest ever late night. And I agree with another writer- most underrated or never known performer of all time.
This guy had buckets full of pure talent, singing, writing and the playing is sublime... he's to mentioned in the same arena as Hendrix,Allen Collins, Clapton!!!!
I am big Hendrix and Van Halen but I think Gary Moore was in a league all of his own. He just had that special touch. Technique to the moon and back yet he could make you cry with just a couple of notes or a simple little run. I trust he is with the Lord.
I was living in W Germany in the early 80s and had peripherally heard of him and a buddy wanted to travel to Munich to hear him and was one of the best concerts I ever attended...wow. Wow.

What a sad loss to the music world , brilliant soul and honest approach to the type of music that will live on for ever , we were so lucky to have had him and many others who we have lost way too soon in a generation that changed music forever
He's got no right to be so good, so freakin awesome to see someone outside of the USA serve up the blues so perfectly. Hope they enjoyed it. What a wonderful world we live in. Love it.
I remember seeing this performance when it aired and enjoyed it so much that I bought the tape the very next day. Tape as in "cassette tape" for you young people that don't know what a cassette tape is! Awesome song by an awesome musician!
What a true blessing from the lord. Only a few that we were honored to hear. The music still gives me the chills. Thanks you I can't listen to him long enough.
