I'm speed dom and my #1 ball has been Super Nova but it hasn't been the best as it has so little shape but my THS is on the heavy side so its still been my best option for the fresh. Was considering the exotic for awhile, the Magic looks like exactly what I've been wanting.
That makes a lot of sense. Maybe add more surface to your super nova if it is not doing what you want
1:04 Brah 😅 I didn’t even think this was a thing. I’ve seen one handed reverse spin. Questioned it last night funnily enough asking how it’s done but the guy had his thumb in which was logical. Though I may snap my wrist if I tried as I bowl one hand no thumb. Maybe I will give it a shot. Thank you sensei 🙏🏽
Big fan of the Gem lineup my guy. I've got an Exotic Gem myself, how would that and the Magic Gem compare?
The colors remind me of the Hyper Cell Skid a little bit.
I'm not the biggest fan of hybrid bowling balls. Only one I found that agreed with me was the Haywire. A demo is coming soon to my center, so I'll give it a roll and see, considering how much I love the original Gem.
Also, I agree heavily with you on "yellow color" in bowling balls. It seems that if that color is dominant, it doesn't finish correctly at times.
It’s not that close to skid in color when you see it up close to be honest

Great ball review Stu! I am torn between The Magic Gem, Eternity PI, or Summit for the top of my bag. I currently have a P2, Duo, and M-M for my league bag. Also looking for something to add to middle bottom, like a VE Blackout or Gold Label.
Think magic and virtual energy blackout might be good options
That's my thoughts as well... thanks. I'm a lefty throwing 17.2mph and 350 revs, but I can speed up to 18.5 or slow down to 13.6 depending on how much I need to shape it. Speeds are what they show on the monitor.
It's not that I'm that speed dominant.. I just have zero revs... ha ha.. still think I may match up w/this? The further out and the straighter I can go, the better.. the oil line bump at the place I bowl at is around 7.. thanks!
I think this and the reality are better choice for lower rev rate players Than the gem. Although think Eternity Pi might be a more popular choice

When the Reality phases out, do you think there is something right now that comes closest to it? I match up with the Reality very well, my concern is always when it does get discontinued will I have an option that matches up just as well.
I think if the reality goes away, this magic might be the closest right now.

Stu can you tell me a good ball in med oil ? I mean I’ve been looking in the storm brella and I pick 6 out lol, house shot ball. I haven’t bought another good ball since a yr ago so many now? Thanks Stu, oh have good hand stand on 25, and revs are 390-400 @ 15.6-16.0 speed
If you want smooth medium, hard to go wrong with phaze2, if you want something more angular, I like either of virtual energy black out or zen gold label
I too have a polished Reality, mainly because my go to spot in League is closer to the gutter. But I played some longer sport patterns this summer and I should have hit it with a 2000 pad before I started. I imagine the the Magic would be a nice option on the longer patterns. I know someone will do it, but I thought the Exotic would be included in this comparison?
Yeh, my only exotic was drilled with a much different layout, also shiny pearl. Didn’t think the comparison added much, in my eyes the magic and exotic aren’t that close
@@BeefandBarnzy you are not the first reviewer to say that the Magic is closer to the Gem than the Exotic, and considering that the Magic is only 1 part pearl that makes sense.
Stu, do you slow down your ball speed when moving in? Especially when using the same ball on different parts of the lane? I know maybe when switching equipment you can maintain ball speed and have a sharper ball. But the same ball surely you need to slow down.
yeh, speed is the biggest difference changer for amount of hook achieved

i mainly am bowling on league house shot and i got the proton right now but i was thinking about the magic gem but maybe pin down? cause to be a hybrid but be cleaner and a bit more length then proton when i gotta move in, my rev rate is 420 and throw maybe 15mph. i can have the proton and then the magic gem pin down,
That would add a little more separation for sure. If the magic was too close after that, could consider polish also. Think the magic might cover more spots than proton.

Yea I put some shine on my Reality as well. Without the polish, the ball would be unplayable.
I’m wondering if the Magic Gem would be good on the 40ft Don Johnson pattern?
Most smoother stronger balls excel on that pattern at the start. I see this being no different

Gem line burns up outside of fresh or game 1. A lot of balls like this I see in league and those using them in game 2 or 3 end up leaving a lot of flat 10s and complain the ball no longer works lol.
Yeh, I see that a lot also. Think magic might be usable for a little longer than regular gem
How does it compare to the rst-x3?
Think it is stronger and more of a rounded shape than x3

What is speed dominant?
Where you speed is higher than what would be considered balance for your rev rate. Basically not being able to make the ball hook as much as you want
If you are looking for numbers, I think I am in the middle of the middle as far as rev rate and speed is considered. Around a 350 rpm rev rate, 18mph in zone 1, 16 mph zone 2 and 14mph zone 3. I need to slow down as I move in to give the ball enough time to get up the hill, but I never have a problem hitting the pocket. Getting the ball to carry is a different story. 😊

Just cause they don’t get used as much by reactive balls, which tend to scratch the lands
I bowl at a house where the end pair is really close to the door, exposed to the elements and there's no atrium or anything, so it's straight outside. The further into the house you go, the better the oil holds up. Different centers can have little quirks, topography things people pick up on...

so you hate yellow colored balls so you must have hated the sun storm. i prefer balls that you can see when they start to hook im not really a huge fan of 1 color balls

Seems like an unnecessary ball to sandwich in between the two existing Gems, but… Looks good I guess.
Some people just prefer / match up better with hybrids. You're right, someone's bag probably shouldn't have all 3, but it's good to have the options to for people to fit their game.
I feel like this will go the same route that all remake of balls, and whichever one that survives will be the goat. Idols have been tossed like crazy, the PhysiX line is a mess, currently the TNT is going that rate. IQ, and Phaze have all done it. I think the Magic Gem will survive as it looks to be the most versatile, and with the right pour/surface adjustments, will roll just like a Gem or Magic
Why do you go with a shiny reality over the Reality Check ?
A little more controllable. I have liked both, but the reality has stood the test of time for me. Reality check is discontinued now also.
How would that react pin down
Sure it would make the motion a little more rounded and a touch less overall hook. Not really what I personally look for in ball this strong very often
