Never going to happen, that's pre sell out Biffy Clyro you only hear the radio friendly bullshit now, the Go slow, Stress on the sky , Bodies in Flight, the ideal height, some kinda wizard is the Biffy of the past and fuck I miss them so much.
That Simon Neil strat is amazing! I lived in the UK for a few years and had honestly never heard of Biffy Clyro (they aren't really known in Canada) until trying that strat in a guitar shop. I figured that whoever put that guitar together spec-wise must have a really good ear for tone, and I was really pleasantly surprised to find how heavy Biffy can get too!
the Metalzone CAN be a good pedal, it's reputation has just been tarnished by sooooo many 14-year olds putting the controls on 10-0-10 and running it into 6" ss combo amps...
+tony93666 I have no doubt you Know what your talking about , but as the pedal states it is a Metal high gain pedal and in my experience there are better tones to be had by plugging your guitar into your dad , but what's awesome is the way he has used this pedal for hard rock and created a great unique tone , so in a round about way your right lol .
Mai the psychic girl I could do this all day...I'm in Panic waiting for this video...These Charming Men will hopefully do the video...this series is going Nowhere Fast without the video...Last Night I Dreamt That they made the video
Makes me wanna go to Thomann and instantly by the whole rig ! Love Biffy Clyro since day 1 and I've been looking for this tone for a very long time ! Thank you very much guys, imma be saving money and go for it, this tone is soooooo crisp, I'm in love with the sound of single coils driven softly, sounds so angry and ballsy ! Keep rockin' guys, love you !!
Again, another awesome video. Thank you both for the tip about looping part of the song to dial in the tone. I have had tones that have driven me crazy trying to dial them in and just never thought to loop the part of the song with that tone in it. Plus it is great when you both bring out a band like Biffy Clyro who most of us may have never heard. New Tones, New Ideas. Hope to hear some Tom Petty someday from you both. Cheers
Bea's rig is mucho dinero, the two amps alone kills da bank. So I'd love to see Matt do a sound like rig (and visa versa) and then see if they can pick out the budget from the real:)
Nice job! I love how Matt describes the sounds as "not just a big noise". In the That Pedal Show video with Simon Neil he actually calls his dirty sound "the big noise"!
Here are some suggestions: Yes (Steve Howe) Allman Brothers (Duane Allman Dickey Betts) Queen (Brian May) Boston (Tom Schulz) King Crimson Rush (Alex Lifeson and Geddy) Radiohead Primus! Mars Volta (Omar Rodriguez) U2 the edge Dream Theater Megadeth (Marty Friedman) Jeff Beck Wes Montgomery Pat Metheny
+stefanozurich agreed👍 but then how would you replicate that layered and delayed tone on songs like Killer queen? And on a budget? Thats what I'd like to see them do
For that layered effect record it twice. Buy a delay pedal. Brian may sig is £600, ehx screaming bird is £32 and an AC15 is £560 the AC30 is £805. I would put something like a TC Spark booster for £100 to get that soaring lead at slightly lower volumes and finally a TC Flashback delay or something similar for about £130.
When I saw Biffy Clyro live this past spring, I noticed Simon uses a Fender Hot Rod DeVille and a Peavey Delta Blues both through 4x12 cabs. Also James Johnston uses Ashdown 4x10s and a PJ bass.
Yeah Joe has a pretty straight forword tone on Magma, but on the way of all flesh, from mars to sirius, and Le enfant savage have massive tone that probably be a challenge
+Christopher Phillips talent is irrelevant to a certain extent. there's tonnes of musicians who have made amazing music who arnt the most talented and many would argue people like buckethead although very talented arnt very entertaining to listen to as they concentrate too much on showing off and less about the quality of a song.
I really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, REALLY want to see them try to Sound Like Alice in Chains. It would also be interesting to see them try to Sound Like Steve Vai
No mention of the fact Simon is pretty well known for using Peavey amps. Watch ANY live show, there is always a Peavey on stage with him and its the amp he started with. Could have been a great episode for looking at and using a not as often seen brand, still, nice job guys!
As much as I love green day, it would be a boring episode. Get a strat with a bridge humbucker and a Marshall like a DSL40C and crank it, and you'll have billie's sound on the older stuff.
Great band, love them. Actually, if I had to choose a gear from all the vids you made, I think I would go with this - except the guitar, maybe -. You practically cover every sound/genre with that.
+MCORP, need a vicious bridge humbucker to go in the strat, note that the original blue guitar was a Fernandez though. I think a Duncan JB is close for 94 -> 04 but before that I think he was using something a bit mental, perhaps a Bill Lawrence. Dime repro gets the really scooped early sound. Most of the distinct tone is from hard playing, bouncing palm mutes (you need a hardtail or to block the trem so it doesnt flutter with palm mutes) and catching bits of thumb whilst picking, almost like a pinch harmonic. Beware of seeing p90 and assuming, Billie Joe used a stacked coil p90 that was voiced much closer to a JB than a classic p90.
I don't know of Biffy Clyro but as always y'all do a great job. While it is nice to know of the artist or band you are trying to sound like, regardless it is still education to see how y'all approach it and the different gear you use. Thanks! Great Job!!!
Loved it. Matt you rocked the bass. Great job. I'd never heard of this band and at first I was like, "Who cares!" about some band I never heard but then I heard the riffs and tones and I'm like, "Why haven't I heard these guys?" So I'm going to check them out.
You know, it's not very hard. The could bust that shit out easy. They have a whole PRS selection. They throw a oddball choice like an S2 or so and still hit dead on. Only hard part would be the Mesa products. They gotta do it at some point.
Pete mostly uses Fender strats with Seymour Duncan humbuckers I think, so that shouldn't be hard to do on the budget. I know he's also used Custom 24's, but less often (and more expensive anyway).
I don't think they make Sub-sonic baritones anymore, tho. You could, however, do Mike Mushok PRS. Or maybe they got Strats baritone right now. I'm a lefty, so I am not good on dope righty Fender products like Baritones. I wouldn't know.
I've wanted this since I started watching the series, but always hesitated because I know Simon Neil has a signature Squier and therefore it wouldn't be that difficult. Anyway, I'm glad to see them doing a sounds like of my favourite band!!
I love the Metal Zone. You really gotta spend time with it to get the right tone and really listen carefully to your eq balance. I love mine. It sounds basically like a 5150 set to medium gain.
I appreciate these sounds like more than the typical "greats," but with that said, I would love to see The Edge and Neil Young. Also, Nick Zinner from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs is an amazingly unique and singular artist who has a wild sound. Check out his rig rundown by Rebecca Dirks. As always thanks for another video.
Saw Biffy at Leeds festival recently as an casual fan only familiar with half there set but holy crap they were amazing, sound was so BIG.
I was there too! I was right at the front!
Late reply but I was there didn't like a song. My dad told me I had to see them and I was amazed probably my favourite of the whole festival
First order of business when you get a Bassbreaker: scratch away the "B", and thus the epic Fender ASSBREAKER is born!
Not bad at all, but would have been nice to hear some pre Opposites tracks like There's No Such Thing As A Jaggy Snake or Saturday Superhouse.
Never going to happen, that's pre sell out Biffy Clyro you only hear the radio friendly bullshit now, the Go slow, Stress on the sky , Bodies in Flight, the ideal height, some kinda wizard is the Biffy of the past and fuck I miss them so much.

Can you guys do a bass series? Like how to sound like flea, cliff burton, etc
So many people have suggested it, I wish they did
yeah, steve harris too
+Wahyu Guntoro Chris Wolstenholme
I also say do a sounds like The Who, Entwistle bass tones & Townshend guitar tones, best of both worlds!
also the god, lemmy, shit would be dope af
he must be the only artist who uses the metalzone in a good way
the Metalzone CAN be a good pedal, it's reputation has just been tarnished by sooooo many 14-year olds putting the controls on 10-0-10 and running it into 6" ss combo amps...
Sounds like The Smiths!
Please please please let us get what we want
How soon is this video going to be released?
Scott Williamson Louis Trefgarne Well I wonder if they're even listening to use! We've been Asking them for it forever.
YES!!! Getting the Johnny Marr sound would be brilliant to see
Mai the psychic girl I could do this all day...I'm in Panic waiting for this video...These Charming Men will hopefully do the video...this series is going Nowhere Fast without the video...Last Night I Dreamt That they made the video
'Energy is Never lost' mock reference at the end? love it!
Sound like The Clash!
rock the casbah rockin the casbah
Sooo many different tones. Wow, depends on which album...London Calling?
Jay Toomuchhustle Id go with london calling if it were up to me
Would love to see Sleep or maybe Electric Wizard. Some awesome stoner/doom band!
That would be GREAT!
Stoner is love, stoner is life
Couldn't agree more
They must do this
Hell yes!!! Ive been asking them to do Electric Wizard for months! Definitely the best doom/ stoner rock around along with weedeater and sleep
Sound like Thin Lizzy
yesss👍
omg yes love opening to china town the guitar just blows me away
Jailbreak makes my pants pointy. Soul Food + Orange Tiny Terror + Squier HSS strat. Done.
Whiskey in the jar!!!
The legendary duel guitar sound needs recognition. Love Thin Lizzy.
I really like the sound you guys got in this one: a really unique combo of single coils, fender amp and a metal zone. Interested in this artist now.
sound like Alice in Chains!!
yes pleaaseee
just the Dirt album would be a challenge...so good.
oh yeah!!
Good call
Do it!!!!
Please make an episode on Billy Talent's Ian D'sa.
In my opinion he has just one of the best Guitar sounds at all.
Thanks Guys :)
THAT fuzz effect!
Again, another awesome video. Thank you both for the tip about looping part of the song to dial in the tone. I have had tones that have driven me crazy trying to dial them in and just never thought to loop the part of the song with that tone in it. Hope to hear some Tom Petty someday from you both.
Cheers
Was that a Sounds Like Arcane Roots at the end? :P
Awesome! You did my suggestion. You guys sounded good. That compressor made a big different. Keep up the good work. Mon the Biff!
sounds like Rabea Masaad :)
Bea's rig is mucho dinero, the two amps alone kills da bank. So I'd love to see Matt do a sound like rig (and visa versa) and then see if they can pick out the budget from the real:)
Finally! Thankyou guys so much! I wanted you guys to do this for so long! :)
sound like queens of the stone age without busting the bank!!!
they did it
or did they
they did josh homme, they should do troy van leeuwen
redux
they could do STP
Nice job! I love how Matt describes the sounds as "not just a big noise". In the That Pedal Show video with Simon Neil he actually calls his dirty sound "the big noise"!
Here are some suggestions:
Yes (Steve Howe)
Allman Brothers (Duane Allman Dickey Betts)
Queen (Brian May)
Boston (Tom Schulz)
King Crimson
Rush (Alex Lifeson and Geddy)
Radiohead
Primus!
Mars Volta (Omar Rodriguez)
U2 the edge
Dream Theater
Megadeth (Marty Friedman)
Jeff Beck
Wes Montgomery
Pat Metheny
Queen is the easiest one ever. Get Brian May sig, get treble booster, get cranked AC30/AC15, voila.
+stefanozurich agreed👍 but then how would you replicate that layered and delayed tone on songs like Killer queen? And on a budget? Thats what I'd like to see them do

+stefanozurich you know your stuff! Thanks a bunch!
Primus Sucks!
THANK YOU SO MUCH I NEVER THOUGHT THIS WOULD HAPPEN
sound like green day
When I saw Biffy Clyro live this past spring, I noticed Simon uses a Fender Hot Rod DeVille and a Peavey Delta Blues both through 4x12 cabs.
Also James Johnston uses Ashdown 4x10s and a PJ bass.
I'm surprised you haven't done a sounds like without for Tony Iommi, and I was wandering if you could do that :D
Just got an ad for the Biffy Clyro tour. Nice.
sounds like ballons is on oppisotes Lmao
Ancient Rome!
Facts
I thought it was on vertigo 🤦😆😆😆
Sound like synyster gates please
Sounds like Joe Duplantier of Gojira?
They'll probably use EVH 5150 mini head and a charvel guitar. A reverb pedal. Maybe digitech whammy if they're going for the new record.
Yeah Joe has a pretty straight forword tone on Magma, but on the way of all flesh, from mars to sirius, and Le enfant savage have massive tone that probably be a challenge
Wasn't expecting Biffy Clyro, very cool
was that a bit of Arcane Roots at the end?
Yes. 😜👌🏻
I've been trying to emulate his sound for ages, so really grateful for this vid! Cheers guys \o/
maybe you could do sounds like Buckethead please
never really been a fan of buckethead. He's talented no doubt, but its hard to take him seriously with a fucking bucket on his head
plus the robot dancing and nunchaku
He's a lot lot lot more talented and better than this clown from Clyro
+Christopher Phillips I know he's talented, but like I said, it's hard to take him seriously with the bucket and dancing and nunchucks and shit
Sound like Muse BY Busting the bank
No mention of the fact Simon is pretty well known for using Peavey amps. Watch ANY live show, there is always a Peavey on stage with him and its the amp he started with. Could have been a great episode for looking at and using a not as often seen brand, still, nice job guys!
sounds like Green Day!
No.
As much as I love green day, it would be a boring episode. Get a strat with a bridge humbucker and a Marshall like a DSL40C and crank it, and you'll have billie's sound on the older stuff.
+TheJacobShapiro I'm interested to hear the American Idiot stuff, there's not much on that on UA-cam
+TheJacobShapiro actually for dookie/90s stuff it would probably be strat with a bridge p90
+TheJacobShapiro actually for dookie/90s stuff it would probably be strat with a bridge p90
Respect for including Little Hospitals. Great cut from Opposites
Can you do a sound like Korn with a 7 string guitar? Would be an interesting video i think
I was really happy, when I saw this video in the feed. Didn't expect this. Great Choice! :D
Sound like Buckethead pls
From which record exactly?
+Alex Ryan The next one.....
All 234 obviously...
Obviously
oh yeah that would be brilliant :) the jordan tone and maybe siege engine or soothsayer ... oh and whitewash :D
That last bit was just brilliant. I could watch Rabea play like that for hours :')
The riff right at the end was a song by Arcane Roots!
Thanks for sharing! I didn't know them yet, but they sound great! Would you happen to know the name of the song as well?
I think it's the first song off of their record Blood & Chemistry
Found it! Thanks a lot :)
Can we get a Biffy Clyro by busting please?
I couldn't have been the only one thinking Matt was trolling with that Metal Zone???? Gets a sweet tone out of it.
Isn't Sounds like Balloons from Opposites?
Ian Bugayong yeah I picked up on that as well 🤔
Great band, love them. Actually, if I had to choose a gear from all the vids you made, I think I would go with this - except the guitar, maybe -. You practically cover every sound/genre with that.
Sound like Bryan May without busting the bank
So glad to see so much love for biffy
Could you please do a sounds like green day without busting the bank?
Fender strat and dsl40 for pre 2004 stuff and lp junior and dsl40 for after.

Beware of seeing p90 and assuming, Billie Joe used a stacked coil p90 that was voiced much closer to a JB than a classic p90.
Awesome, they should do that one
Awesome guys! Love the Arcane Roots riff at the end.
Please do Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple/Rainbow!

I can't wait until they do a "Sounds like Chevelle"!
yeah right
Dude, I've been requesting that forever!
You know, it's not very hard. The could bust that shit out easy. They have a whole PRS selection. They throw a oddball choice like an S2 or so and still hit dead on. Only hard part would be the Mesa products. They gotta do it at some point.

13:33 that sounds a lot like Royal Blood! great video
Sound like Radiohead!
I've wanted this since I started watching the series, but always hesitated because I know Simon Neil has a signature Squier and therefore it wouldn't be that difficult. Anyway, I'm glad to see them doing a sounds like of my favourite band!!
After watching, I apologise. Great episode as always!!
Pleasseeeee ddoooooo sound like Slipknot by breaking the bank.... Custom fender... Custom Jackson..... Big orange and mesasssss.....

Yup
Thank you for doing Biffy! By The Way : Sounds Like Balloons is from the album Opposites. 🙌
Please do a sound like sublime! That would be sick!
Good one! That will bring back some 90s memories
Bradley is majorly overlooked man....have you heard his boys band...they are called law...!!!!
it's a shame this wasn't in the strat blindfold test! also I'd like to see a Chap and Cap video on this! looks like such a sweet guitar!
making sound like Black Sabbath without busting the bank?
YEEEEESSSSS THANK YOU GUYS FOR THIS VIDEO❤️❤️❤️ MON THE BIFF
sound like van halen (with lee roth)
Been waiting for this for ages!
Sound like GHOST B.C!!!
They don't have to use the B.C. anymore in the US.. although as far as having to tack shit onto the end of your band name goes.. that was inspired :)
Thanks for the information :) Hope they be making a sound like on them though
IVE BEEN WAITING SO LONG FOR THIS ONE!!!!
Sound like Jerry Cantrell or Pete Loeffler!!!
I second Jerry !
JERRY! WE WANT JERRY!
I believe they are going to do Jerry soon because ive seen a buttload of people asking for him (including myself)
fingers crossed!
Jerry has his own sig Freedman now, you know for the "By Busting The Bank" version.
that tone on Many of Horror was AMAZING.
Biffy Clyro? What the hell is that? :D Please, do sound like SRV.
Hahaha, I thought to myself "whos that? damn im getting old"
yes
It's just one of the most awesome modern rock bands out there. Especially live, their shows are insane!!
As they said at the start the aren't big in the US but are in the UK. I only know them from Them being in RockSmith but I quite like them.
Unfortunately, yes.
Good to see Matt on the bass, provide some nice backing without distracting from the guitar tone.
Sound like Soundgarden!!!
Yesssss, have been waiting for this!!
MON THE BIFF!!!!!!!!!
MON THE BIFF !!!
I was hoping you were going to take your tops off to cover biffy
Sounds like the Beatles!
Why hasn't this happened yet?
IF YOU WATCHED THE ROLLIBG STONES SOUNDS LIKE YOU WILL KNOW THE BETTER THE BAND THE LONGER WE WAIT, THE BEATLES SHOULD BE THE VERY LAST EPISODE
+MB215 True

Wasn't from only revolutions though.. 😆😆 the one that sounded closest to be fair
Sounds like The Police?
Great vid guys! Just one thing, the link in the description is for the DS-1 instead of the Mega Distortion. Cheers!
sound like john fogerty !
The biggest name that no one seems to know
I feel like it's like that with all the CCR members, they're fuckin' legendary..
+daniels8790 absolutely!
I saw him in Toronto he puts on a really good show, but yeah I'd love to see how they'd "construct" his sound
I get that a lot. Lol
Metal zone is still one of my favourite pedals.
Do sound like the amazing and iconic Nuno Bettencourt! I will never stop to comment under every single video till' we have it! ;)
Thank you for that. That was awesome!
Sound Like The 1975 - Without Breaking The Bank
I love the Metal Zone. You really gotta spend time with it to get the right tone and really listen carefully to your eq balance. I love mine. It sounds basically like a 5150 set to medium gain.
Nice tone, no idea of who Biffy Clyro are.
Saw you guys recording in the shop, keep up the good work
What about a Sound like Beyonce?......... I'm ashamed of myself for typing this.
Sound like Buckethead!
When I saw them live on the opposites tour (2013) they had a second guitarist off stage (most of the time) using an EVH Wolfgang
