  • Recognizing and Restoring Degraded Forest Stands
Forests can be degraded by insects and diseases, by wind and other weather events, and by past management. We will talk briefly about how to recognize a degraded woodlot, focusing on whether there are enough trees to serve as seed source for future regeneration. Then we will discuss some strategies to begin restoring these forests, based on the seedlings on the forest floor and the remaining seed source in the existing forest. The approach we'll discuss was developed collaboratively by the Allegheny Forest Health Collaborative. This webinar will be presented by Dr. Susan Stout (US Forest Service Emerita) and Sarah Wurzbacher (Pennsylvania Game Commission Silviculturalist).
