Hello Harrison as always a treat to watch when goodies of trains you receive. As a loyal viewer The small yard steam switcher by Life Like A.T.S.F. was my very first Trainset in 1973! I am truly impressed with it i am trying to replace that engine ever since i have had 3 of them 1 in A.H.M.. Speaking of A.H.M. The PENN CENTRAL center cab engine i would have thought it was an RS1 locomotive, the cab is almost centered not an RS engine line. It was great to watch it as a runner! Last the dual cab engine think of it as a mysterious Pennsylvania Railroad diesel no one knew about 🤣🤣 Always inspiring & this viewer Thanking You! 👍👏 👏

My father got a Br-130 when he was about 8 or 10 in 1978, he lived in Europe, his prized HO possessions were a BR-86 and a BR-130, I still run them to this day almost 50 years later, the br-86 could use some parts because it’s a little broken but otherwise they are great runners! Good to see that they can still be found in North America!

Wunderbar, Harrison, now you have a Piko Deutsche Reichsbahn locomotive in the collection. Looks like the German version of a GG1. The Penn Central center cab switcher is very nice. The B&O chuffing boxcar is a cool addition as well. Nice to see other subscribers getting into the giving spirit and adding to your collection. Auf wiedersehen.

Fun fact. I live about 20 minutes from where the Penn Line factory was. It started in a row home in Boyertown Pa. To advertise the little switcher diesels they bent a rail to the correct radius for the outside rail and ran them around a half dollar [ a type of us coin] for the inside rail. Always wanted to try it. Have not done so yet.

The small metal switcher is made by Penn Line. It's their original version of the "Midget" as they called it. It used a spring-belt drive instead of the gear transfer from the later versions, a Pittman DC-60 motor, the chassis and wheels are solid brass, and the body is made from pure lead. Careful handling any bare spots on that lead body!

That PIKO BR130 is an East German model of a locomotive as it was in service with the DR (Deutsche Reichbahn) in the 1970s until the end of the DR after German reunification. The model looks to be about 1970s vintage.
The actual prototype was made in Soviet Russia. It is often called a "Russian Locomotive" but is most commonly known as a "Ludmilla". It is in widespread use through out the Soviet Union and Warsaw pack countries, mainly because it is diesel powered. After WW2 the Soviets confiscated electrified rail from the East Germans (under the guise of war preparations) as well as other countries so that they could create a captive market for Soviet petroleum fuel products.
The Ludmilla is considered very powerful, tough and reliable and despite its age, it is still in widespread use throughout Eastern Europe as well as Germany. If you visited Germany today you might see it in service with many private companies as well as with the modern Deutschebahn (German Railway) where it is used to pull heavy freight. It is also a very economical to run as many have had modernization refits given its platforms flexibility to accept modern technology.

The whitcomb is the Penn line, but is the D1. The D1 was the first version they made with the motor sticking out the rear. They then refined running and cosmetic qualities with the D2, which was much more popular, and is the yellow one you have.
The PIKO engine is a class M62 Russian diesel locomotive. The one you have was made to work in Germany.
The Penn central is a funny looking thing, but it did exist! It is an ALCO Century 415.

Well that was very cool there. That Penn central switcher locomotive i swear ive seen something about them not sure. The. Box car Tyco did make sound box cars and then they made a flat car with wood crates on them had. Slats you could see the speaker in it with good light. I had one but unfortunately it had no sound system on it someone must have taken it out but left the wheel that had the copper contact. Thats really cool the guy has the whole family dedicated to the model railroading which is what i want to do is make custom store or something with my daughter's included in it . Very neat locomotives that GG1 would be neat to see run . anyways hope everyone has a great day .

ALCO made an effort to sell Penn Central C415s, but PC preferred EMD’s SW1500, as did most lines interested in end cab switchers. If they had ordered C415s, they would have been built with a lower cab. The odd layout of them however turned off the former PRR executives that swept aside the NYC executives during the red versus green team infighting that got Penn Central into trouble.

A fellow fan of Captain Slow? You are indeed a man of culture Harrison.
Going by the gentleman's credentials I'm thinking you've been chosen as the padawan to model railroading Jedi knight.
The Penn Central is an Alco C415 switcher put out by Alco in the late 60s and wasn't a big seller with only 28 built.
Rock Island and SP purchased the most with 10 each and Spokane Portland & Seattle purchased 2 to round out the Class 1 owners, the remainder went to single purchase owners ( technically Weyerhaeuser lumber had 2 with their Chehalis Western and Columbia & Cowlitz but are counted as individual railroads) and Monongahela Connecting Railroad rounded out the last US purchase and the Alco demonstrator ending up with Hamersley Iron in Australia.

    @ROKMAN1445 4 роки тому +1

The Penn Central locomotive is an ALCo C415, which Penn Central never owned any, however a mix of roughly 8-10 other railroads did. It was a last ditch effort (built less than 5 years from ALCo's collapse) for a market that didn't exist (road switchers - most railroads were rebuilding or buying new power from GE and EMD). There was a grand total of 28 built (with 3 different heights of cabs - the AHM model depicts the tallest version) and I'm going to say that roughly 10-12 exist to date.
I have one decorated for the SP, they're decent runners with a little bit of TLC, which I'm sure you'll be giving it some with due time. They don't pull too much but just enough to look fine by themselves or in a group (I've seen 3 in a lashup at most).

At Amtrak we know the future of the Northeast Corridor depends on the investments we make today, which is why we are excited to announce the upcoming arrival of the next-generation of high-speed rail. The new train-sets will replace the current Acela Express equipment and begin service in 2021.
For this project, we are pleased to be partnering with Alstom, a leading global provider of innovative systems and equipment in the railway sector. Alstom will be building these new trainsets in New York State, with 95% of the trainset’s components being made in America, and parts coming from 350 suppliers in 30 U.S. states.

That Penn Central locomotive is odd, I’m not sure of the specific model, but it looks like something produced by ALCO at some point. Alco built a lot of different classes of small switchers to complete with GE and EMD, most of which didn’t sell well. Penn Central is a railroad that intrigues me, they had such a large operation but lasted for so short of a time. Fun fact when PC went bankrupt in 1974, it was the largest bankruptcy in America at the time.
