Just some friendly criticism: Many people looking to buy a pedal that emulates the dumble sss tone, seeks SRV lenny type and john mayer gravity type tones. And many people who are looking into that type of tones, want to see how the pedal reacts with a clean fendery blackface type amp, and a strat with low output vintage style single coils, at low gain settings in the pedal. It would have been much better if you would have used a strat and a blackface amp to demo this pedal.
Mayher? lol But SRV, Hendrix, Duane Allman etc.. yes That is the market for this pedal, there was none of it in the video, no fault of the CP, maybe he'll put out another video addressing that 'base' tone. I ordered this earlier today, we'll see how it stacks up. There is another video on this pedal, it sounded pretty good.
Just ordered one of these in Thailand for $35. Looks like it was the last one. Then I came to check out the UA-cam demos. I have a Britwind and I found the tone into the Marshall channel encouraging. Looking forward to receiving mine now. Happy Thanksgiving.
I have this pedal and for this kind of money it is crazy good however on the lowest gain setting there is still too much gain in my opinion. It reacts good with the volume knob of the guitar. I'm gonna replace it with a CTC Unobtanium for more control from the Dumble sounds on my bigger pedalboard. It has another pricetag though. I'll keep the Nux for a smaller travel friendly pedalboard. The Nux shines with single coils. Good review
For a pedal that supposedly does the sss thing, it has way too much gain with gain knob low. The steel string is a clean OD and doesn`t start to get dirty until the gain pot is up around noon. Whats up with that guys..?
Looks very similar to the Vertex Steel String pedals. (we're in botique territory here.) The NuX is a steal at fifty bucks! In time I imagine someone is going to do a side by side comparison of these two. I really like boosts and low gain drives to goose a clean or slightly dirty amp and or other pedals. Sounds great in your review. This is one I will consider purchasing. Nothing to dislike here!
Thanks for the feedback David. Glad you liked the video. I’ll be reviewing the NuX XTC before too long which is the Bogner emulation. Be sure to subscribe so you get notified when it drops.
@@ThePedalGuy Thanks to you Pedal Guy for introducing me to so many new pedals. I appreciate your effort to make quality informative videos . Of course, my wallet is on life support.
I don't see reason for having the chorus pedal in the chain if you didn't use it. So we can't tell if this could be changing the tone from the sss. Just my 2 cents.
I orderd such an effect. In about a week I`ll tell you, if I keep it or not and why. What does it that the VOX Brit Boost can`t, what the EHX Soul Food can`t, what the Ibanez Tube Sream can`t, do with my amps...
Well, I ordered it. First time I put the in/off switch, the switch was dead. The dealer didn't want it back. I just got it back. Rather lousy, quality.
Sounds like every other pedal out there. You would have to play it with your own hands, amp and guitar to get a feel for how it really sounds and reacts
An inexpensive pedal that will fit someone's style. But I agree with prior posts, does not sound like any Dumble or revered D-style pedal. Especially the SSS, which is a very defined tone and dynamics.
I got one. And did a side-by-side with my other ODs. IT IS NOT A DUMBLE PEDAL! Turns out this guy is mostly in the tube screamer realm (tonally - it may have a different circuit topology). It sounds NOTHING AT ALL LIKE MY TWO DUMBLE PEDALS (Joyo TaiChi and Tomsline Dumbler). The Vertex pedal it kinda clones wasn't a Dumble pedal either. Marketing bullshit. Sigh... BUT IT IS WORTH THE MONEY, SO READ ON. Its mid-range is a bit higher on the eq scale than a standard TS, much like my MXR Custom Modified Badass OD with its 'mids' button engaged. The Steel Singer has a bit more low-mids/upper-lows than a standard TS, so it growls a bit more, but basically has the same bass freq cut off. What makes it stand out is the gain knob is smooth. Noon on the SS is like 10 o'clock on the MXR and my standard TS. So it's easier to hone in on the right amount of low-gain. Also, it's less fizzy, so it has a bit more clarity. And it's a bit less compressed, so it feels a tad more 'open'. I suspect they used a different set of diodes in the clipping section than is standard. All-in-all, it's good and does what you'd want a TS to do. Nice lush OD for chord work, but great mid-honk for solos. Given the subtle differences I've detailed above, it may be a better fit for some amps than a standard TS.
This pedal is hard to tame, even at “1”…and kinda hissy. You have to back off on the tone to get a decent sound. It does ROCK…more as a straight up distortion pedal. A true Dunble sound IMHO is not crackling distortion…YMMV
Well, Got one ! Super Nice tight juicy and crispy sound. But basses are now gone away and the stomp is so hard and noisy that it's Just painful. Kind of orgasmic frustration ?
@@ThePedalGuy ok so basically i used the plug I use for my little baby amp on it cause I was like “Aw man same cord that should work!” And then I hear a pop and see smoke go up
WAY too much gain! Its supposed to be not much more than a clean boost. Its designed to look like the Vertex Steel String but it sounds nothing like it. Still, you get what you pay for. Looks nice...so that's something.
@@misterknightowlandco the amps, particularly the Marshall, were already overdriven before he switched on the pedal! Dumbles are based on Fender amp circuits and then tweaked to the individual customer's taste. The Dumble Steel String Singer does NOT sound like that! The pedal is designed to push a clean amp.
100% a rip off. But to be fair, the vertex steel string is also a rip off of the mu-amp circuit with some added eq controls. And Mason also literally bought another builders wah pedal, took out the circuit board and just rehoused them in his wah pedal casing and sold them for like 150% markup back in the day. So, this kinda looks like karma.
@Don't Believe Da Hype shill much? My point is that they all get ripped off. But it just feels like karma when vertex gets ripped off since they 1) dont have a single original designed pedal in the line up. And, 2) whenever he rips off a design he makes a video about how it took years of R&D to create from scratch. The Rig Doctor sells snake oil bro. Though I did by a nyle pedal :)
