For a shootout it's best to have both mics on the same speaker. Speakers in a 412 can sound surprisingly different.

Yeah I realize that now. Still worth something though

@@maxgorelick this is especially true with an angled cab too, if you are mic'ing a bottom and top speaker.

    riffage is insane! kudos.
nice comparison by the way, i love the tone the MD421 gave.
i might get one now and blend it with my sm57

Uehara Junior same. I think the wider freq range provides more lows and highs, while SM57 fills in the mids. Perfect combo. Glenn Fricker has a video doing that same (though substituting Audio D2) blending through a cheap mixer.

Both sound good and a nice blend of the two would produce some great tracks.

Excellent comparison video! Based on this I prefer the MD421.

I guessed it right. I just literally took an SM57 off my cab in the stu because it was just too harsh and thin.

I could hear the sm57 immediately. Probably helps that I have 8 of them lol. Even thrown off by two different speakers the tonality of the 57 was still there.

Md421 wins for me, punchier, more clear and more viby

You can very easily spot the mic but the test is not reliable, an angled speaker sounds very different from a straight one.

sm57 plays here cut the lower tones, and 421 is the one that sounds more natural and fiery
