You're an absolute legend and this video is epic, but its downright horrible how few views you get. The concept, the research, the effort put in, the editing, the little rap with harpsichord sound that you made, EVERYTHING is incredible! Huge props to you. All the nerdy references are amazing too Also, hope your knee recovers soon legend
I'm impressed you flew around the world to walk down a particularly straight road. Some would say this is probably the least interesting place a person could choose to take a long walk. When I was a teen I walked down a similarly long straight and boring road in Salt Lake City to get from my house to the grocery store and back, to buy soda and candy, and got badly sunburned doing it. The snow covered mountains in the distance are really stunning.
Great video, I subscribed and will watch some of your others! I want to do this exercise now for Canada to see what the longest, straightest & acrossest city road is here. My initial thoughts were north of Toronto but I spy a potential in Regina too
Really enjoyed the video! Find your videos really interesting but also very calming - you have a voice for audiobooks I reckon! Particularly enjoyed the *NOM* of the muffin. Out of interest, is the straightness measure a line of best fit like a linear regression? Or is the ideal straight line made by connecting the two endpoints of the road? Have you considered the fact that the longer the road the more it succumbs to the curvature of the earth and therefore becomes less straight? So would a short road that becomes an overpass to maintain absolute straightness be considered more straight? Also as a transit nerd how full were the buses that travelled along the road or did you notice?
Interesting point. I hadn't considered straightness of the roads in 3D space. For the longest road in the video that would add around 43m deviation in the vertical (radial) direction. That's not insignificant! Plenty of cities naturally develop in wide valleys, so I'm sure there are some examples that roughly cancel out Earth's curvature. I won't be the one to look for them though. And my bus was nearly empty: 5-10 people maximum on the whole journey.
The longest, straightest road (which I drive on regularly and fully expected to rank high before ever clicking!) gradually but irregularly loses a net of about 200m over its length, with a small bump in the middle. I'm tempted to bike it now in response, but I would not set out on foot.
Enjoyed this thanks. Tried Canada? I always thought Yong st was a humdinger but Ive just looked it does take a little meander here and there from Toronto Harbour

Cracking nerd quotient, Ally - thank you 👍
Another brill video, you should have loads more subscribers with such good content.
would you be willing to share that spreadsheet? I know id love to take a look at all the various roads, and probably at least a few others here too!
Sure! I'll add a link in the description
So are you doing #1 next? Keeping us in suspense?
More content, more straight-line missions. Let's go!

"why does everyone drive in the USA" - over 3 minutes wait at a pedestrian crossing
Oh right...
that just means theres a 3 minute traffic jam down the way to compensate
Great video, thanks!
Ha! I am in Mesa AZ as I watched this video, about 2 miles from Baseline Road. Sorry, I am not going to walk its length.
This is where it bEnds 😔
I'm just impressed with the 5mph/8kph walking speed. Think the best I've averaged on a long walk was 6.2kph. Clearly I need to get my finger out.
He has long legs
Mormon straightness
Cool vieo, thanks :)
