- It's a question we are asked regularly. How to drive a narrowboat in reverse. So, during our canal ride to Cheddleton on the Caldon Branch of the Trent & Mersey Canal, Colin demonstrates how he drives the boat in reverse.
We moor over not one, not two, but THREE aqueducts before heading south east towards the Cheddleton Flint Mill and the Churnet Valley Railway before mooring overnight at the Boat Inn at Cheddleton.

I tried to keep the facts about the canal route in my head, but there isn't enough room.
During the weirdness that was 2020, you gents quickly moved into position as one of my top two favorite canal-cruising channels. With David deciding to change the CC format for 2021, I think that moves the Foxes smoothly into #1. You're informative, funny and outright entertaining...and that's just Otis...Colin and Shaun, you're a bit of alright, too.
Looking forward to watching from north Texas through 2021 as well, and damn happy to see Shaun more or less recovered from Covid.

Hi Colin and Shaun, I love your honesty about things that have knocked you down and have climbed back up again. COVID, loss of Shaun’s dad (I did shed a tear or two), Colin’s battle with depression and the dark days that go along with it. Your reactions and sensitivity both as a couple and singularly have helped me get back on my feet with my own battle with depression.

The first couple of episodes after Shaun’s illness were hard to watch. Same high quality, make no mistake, but there was almost no laughter. Shaun clearly must’ve been starting to feel better, in this one, bless him! The laugh is back! Stay well!

My uncle once reversed through the longest canal tunnel back in the day because a tree had blocked the canal and he had no choice. If memory serves I think he got a certificate for it back in 1975

Happy New Year. Glad to see you both on the mend. My favourite vlogs were the Thames through London and the dreaded and poetic “Don’t Sink on the Ribble Link”. Both involved a certain degree of trepidation verging on panic in the latter(Colin) who swore never to do it again. Am currently reading “Narrow Dog to Carcassonne” by Terry Darlington and they cross the channel in their narrow boat. Not something I’d personally recommend. I think you probably know already as you do quite a bit of delving for vague facts, but as you say the lake wasn't named after Rudyard Kipling but Rudyard Kipling was named after the lake as his father John Lockwood Kipling courted his mother Alice Kipling (nee: MacDonald) around Rudyard Lake. PS .Did you know that Silver fox was the trade mark (Emblem)of (Samuel Fox Stainless steel) of Stocksbridge Works Sheffield and the Loco was named after the company.

Loads of special moments but I think these are my favourites: the tour of Silver Fox the first time, going around Birmingham and cruising to Bournville (as we had done that route), first time meeting Otis, your lockdown 'a day in our life', chasing a burglar in your pants and emptying the cassette toilet. For emotional moments there are 4, when Colin spoke about Paul, an American viewer, when Shaun spoke about Colin's mental health problems, losing Dillon and when you were both ill with Covid. A montage of your time to celebrate 1000 miles will be amazing. I hope you both understand the joy your journey, your love and desire to enjoy life brings to others. Thank you for what you do xx

My 2 favourite moments are when Colin talked about his struggles with anxiety because it took tremendous courage and I believe you saved lives with that vlog, while the other favourite moment was in THIS vlog seeing the return of Shauns hearty laugh that indicates he’s in good health again. It’s such a relief!
Every vlog is visually spectacular and going along with you while viewing the gorgeous scenery brings more joy than I can express. I’ve only been to England once, more than 40 years ago, and I’ve sometimes regretted my decision to decline the invitations to stay that some very nice people made. My favourite place you visited was the London trip down the Thames, though the tunnels have all been good viewing. Loved seeing your reversal of fortune, so to speak. I've always wondered how you go in reverse in a narrowboat or if you even CAN. Sorry you all are so cold and rainy; here in Nashville TN on 1 Jan. it's 70 F. (21 or 22 C) and sunny. It's not our usual weather, actually, but the past few days have been close to warmish, so some early Spring flowers are starting! That's just wrong.

No. You'd need all sorts of planning permissions and the cost (if permission was granted) would be enormous and ongoing.
