I followed Dr.Berg and at the end of my 10 week mark, I ended up in the ER. I was strict..I lost 26 pounds...I double and triple checked with people who help others with keto for a living..I ended up for the first time in my life with high blood pressure. By the time I got to the hospital, I was, they said, close to having a heart attack and right at the door of having a stroke. My heart rate started going nuts. After 5 days, Im still trying to get it regulated..but Im coming off keto slowly so as not to shock my body again.

Stop blaming him. You did not follow him exactly because I do and my blood pressure is fixed. You were eating way too much fatm I can actually post his diet which recommends and he doesn't say eat loads of meat. He actually says eat more greens (4 servings). He doesn't even say seat loads of salt. I follow him to a T and my diabetes and blood pressure is cured.

Please don't blame that on doctor Eric Berg, he is not the only one recommending keto and he didn't event it. Keto affects everybodys body differently. If you did keto without tons of salt I don't see how it created high blood pressure. I had high blood pressure for a year and mine left when I got on keto but what did happen, is I experienced severe fatigue by the third day. If you are salty meat and salty fat then of course your blood pressure would be high. There is no way you could get high blood pressure from eating avocado for fat and plain wild caught fish and plain greens. If you ate lots of seasoned fat then of course you could. A pinch of himalayan sea salt is not giving you high blood pressure.

@@Character_analyse sandwhich has carbs and you had a too low calorie deficit. Some people can't be on keto with a calorie deficit. If you eat 900 calories while on keto you may end up very fatigue. it was not the keto, it was having very little carbs while being in calorie deficit. I can prove it, if you post your meal you ate. Hi. Lindsay, our body needs time to get used to consuming ketones instead of glucose because we were trained to rely on carbs for fuel by our parents. You have to train your digestive system to consume fat instead of carbs gradually. Maybe try not to be too strict with the keto diet. I exercise in the morning and then take oats for breakfast (that is carbs ok) because I want some carbs for my guts biome. Lunch is usually strict keto. I try not to be too strict during dinner because my wife and kids still love their rice and pastas. Have been on this for 2 years.

I did have a bad experience with keto too. Like anything in life, what work for you might kill your neighbor and vice versa. On the fifth day on keto....i could barely breath during the day and at night it got worse. I pushed through it because i thought it was keto flu. When i got up from my couch, i could barely walk, and i could barely see and my heart was racing like crazy...i was scared and thought i was gonna pass out alone in my appartment....i took Sugar and it didnt pass right away...i didnt go to sleep ( i was scared to die in my sleep) so i stayed Up until the morning to make sure i was a little bit better. Anyways, im not saying keto is bad, but its obviously not for me...im sure if i kept doing it ( like some says push yourself it will pass) something really bad would of happenned.
( I was doing it properly: took vitamins, supplements for my hydrolites, drank a lot of water, my macros were perfect, i had low carb veggies)
Anyways, i believe we should listen to our bodies and that there is a difference between pushing your limits vs respecting your limits....

This comment is late to the game but if anyone is reading I can almost 100% guarantee this was due to the alcohol. Your liver can will process alcohol first..before anything else (to get rid of the toxin) therefore it cant secrete or process anything else. This will cause your blood sugar to drop significantly if you are severely depleted after intense cardio...add this to the body transitioning to ketosis you're body has used up all your glycogen stores and hasnt been adapted to using ketones for fuel effectively therefore a severe decrease in blood sugar.

  • @tizzyp793
    @tizzyp793 6 років тому +2

Your blood sugar levels mirror how the organs, especially the pancreas and brain, are functioning. Each organ in the body has to maintain a healthy pH, which is why cells need proper minerals, electrolyte, and carb balance. Fats and oils are naturally acidic when the body burns them, and your energy goes into maintaining healthy pH. The reason why the Keto diet can be dangerous is because it affects pH of the blood and oxygen level. Fat decreases available oxygen and lowers energy. Carbs raise energy levels and naturally helps you stay hydrated, keeping your electrolytes in balance.
To break this down, when you burn fat, you need calories and carbs to help your body's pH stay between 7.35-7.45, this neutralizes toxins that feed on sugar. Too much meat protein depletes potassium, and this is how ketosis harms the body's electrolytes. Amino acids have high energy requirements, and carbs are needed to help digest protein properly. Excess mineral depletion of magnesium, potassium is common in low-carb diets. When your carbs are low, blood sugar drops, and breathing slows down to a coma like state. You need carbs for aerobic exercisr to keep oxygen levels normal and help the body stay oxygenated during a workout.

If you were working out fast and hard with very low carbs and in ketosis for only a few days that is why that happened. You can not be drinking alcohol while in ketosis for a while. If you do you may get a migraine out of their world, take it from someonr who knows. You did not need sugar to bring it up, you needed just protein and a little fruit. You are not suppose to be doing any intense workout while in deep ketosis and your body didn't get use to it. I have been in ketosis for days now and I was diabetic and not any more

I am seeing so many people who say "Keto did this, Keto did that, I quit, its bad". It is bad, if you dont understand what you are doing on this diet. I have been Keto 3 months and the first 30 days were the toughest for me, but I kept researching and experimenting with different ways of eating and IF, now, I understand the lifestyle (although not fully and I am still learning new things) when I start feeling funky, I go for Broth with bone marrow or Electrolyte water and it always gets me back on track. I also do cheat meals 2x (keto-style, no sugar, no alcohol) a month and that is where I have seen my biggest improvement.

I've been using a watered down version of the keto diet to induce weight loss. It's working although it's not a quick fix or anything like that. I didn't cut out carbs as severely as they recommended. I didn't skip meals as often as they recommended. I didn't load up on animal foods. Much of my fat came from plants. Some advocates of the keto diet say you have to cut out all legumes. I didn't go that far although I did not eat very large amounts of beans.. Some want you to fast 36-48 hours. I did occasional breakfast skipping, not long-term fasts. I got some of my fat from olives, nuts, and coconut oil. I slashed my intake of grains and potatoes but did not cut them out entirely. I limited my fruits to those with the lowest net carbs like raspberries and strawberries and avoided liquid calories including fruit juice. Canned sardines, salmon, and cheese are the primary animal foods I ate and I usually mixed it in with other foods rather than eating those foods straight.
I am almost a total non-drinker. Every once in a while I will get a sixpack of light beer but nothing beyond that.

Wrong. But if you are doing strenuous exercise the energy has to come from somewhere. Carbs are one option, fat and ketones the other, but in order for that to work the body needs to be fat adapted.

I know this might be a bit late to the party, however... the only couple of things i could think of is 1, if newer(less then a month or two) into keto, your muscles were not adapted fully, so when over exerted, they started sucking down the sugar. though, that is very odd still. 2 you might not have had enough ketones. before exerting yourself or any major activity, take a ton of fat. they make coconut oil gel caps, keep those on hand. 3 have your liver checked. your liver generates most of your glucose when on keto. if something is slowing the production, it could be related. also, if you havent been eating enough protein(glucose) or fat(ketones), that could contribute. 4 avoid alcohol if possible. 5 check with your doctor. IF you have absorption issues in your digestive track, you may not be getting enough nutrients(protein or fat). this could be something off physically or could be a supplement you are taking that contribute. all that said, i am not a doctor. but with the research i been doing into keto, these could be factors that might contribute. i hope you are doing well now. my opinion, no diet is best for everyone. your body might not function as well on it as the next person. just keep an eye on it and be safe. if you do keep going, see a doctor, keep a bottle of juice on hand for activities, just in case.
also, check into what mike said. its a very valid point you might be deficient in potassium. also, ensure you are getting enough iodine, fiber, etc.

I did it 6 days with the correct macro's. Same as you. (70-5-20) But I became soo sick. My hands got orange color. Like liver or something was not going good. Also my hair starts falling out. (This don't happen to my hair if I do other (extreme) diets, like water fasting, fruit diet.) So this was due to something else. I felt like strain in my whole body. Like constipation, my body not able to process those foods. I had a terrible smell! And I don't think that this was the keto flu. Did everything tight, drank a lot of bone broth etc. I had already eaten like keto but not with so many fats and animal protein (20%), so that was a different keto and I didnt had those symptoms. But I was in ketose.
And also when I eat paleo with moderate protein and fats my body cant handle it well. I feel my body needs some grains etc to have a proper digestion. I have tried paleo also with a lot of vegetables and some fruits but my digestion got so worse.
I kept trying and doing it again and again. And now I think this is not working on my body. So good to listen when you really feel bad and stop.;) I think.
I hope I will not go again and again bouncing my head like donkey.;) Good luck to you!
And curious if you find a food style that suits you!

His body fat isn’t low enough for that. But of course the problem was an energy crisis, the liver has to produce both glucose and ketones in hat situation, and it didn’t. Alcohol disrupts both, but there are many other ways to compromise liver function.

When you get sick on keto, especially that sick, it is from 1 of 3 things. 1- you are restricting calories way too much and youd have tgis effect no matter what diet you are on. 2- your macros are off and you are not getting enough fat/too much protein. Or 3-you are very dehydrated and not replacing electrolytes. You need a lot of water/salt/magnisium/potassium on this diet because without carbs your body flushes them. I drink a gallon of water a day plus a powerade zero and then get nore through foods. I have been doing keto for a year, most of the time workibg out twice a day and doing cardio during both sessions. I have never felt better. But I dont restrict my calories belpw 2,000, I get plenty of fats, and I am always hydrating. Keto ONLY gets dangerous when the person doing it is doing it wrong. But that can be said with any form of nutrition.

Dark grapes and eggs and a little mozerella cheese will fix it, and a shot of Acv with mother in it. YOU ARE WELCOMED. 😊

Never do lots of cardio with out carb dummy. Nothing wrong with keto. That’s only for people do slight cardio. If u building muscle that is good but not for the runner, etc...

Completely wrong. In fact the opposite is true. Keto is perfect for running long distances, but a) you should always have food (including carb-rich stuff) with you for really long runs in case something goes wrong, and b) you can only do this if you develop a feel for how hard you can run without tapping too much into glycogen stores.
