My favorite story: The Duchess of Windsor was at an A list party in Europe. The Duchess decided to debut her emeralds at the party, whereup a Maharajah complimented the Duchess by saying something like, "Congratulations on your beautiful necklace. I used to wear them on my ankles." The Duchess was never seen to wear them again. At least that is the story I was told. Talk about putting the nuevo riche Duchess in her place. I love It!
I think this conversation took place between The Duchess of Windsor and the daughter of Maharani of Baroda, who commented not on the emeralds, but the necklace worn by the former saying oh how beautiful is your neck piece, it belonged to my mother, actually it's an anklet, she wore it at her feet. It is rumoured,Wallis returned it to the jeweller that very day!In India all royals, rajputs and kshatriyas wear gold around their feet, otherwise gold is worshipped and the commoners wear silver. The super rich never wear silver, merely eat off it.
@@rinasarin3388 The story (the version I told) is found in the auction book. I leave the reader to decide which one is true. Either way, poor Wallace (who would never be rich enough to erase memories of her poor childhood) was greatly humiliated and embarrassed and I am sure the unlucky Duke was given an earful for not checking more carefully, the provenance of the emeralds. She was, all told, more royal than the Duke...in her mind.
You're mentioning Pliny the Elder in your intro, the stone is jade, and I am falling in love with this channel. Not for the gemstones themselves, but for the overall energy and intention behind these videos here on youtube. Much respect Andrew. I see you dude. Namaste 🙏🙏🏿🙏🏽🌈🌎💗👍
I had dreamed of owning an Emerald Cut Emerald ever since a young child. About 4yrs ago I finally got my wish. Despite the gem being only .61ct, it's colour and clarity is more than I could have asked for. It's set in a yellow gold ring with three channel set Diamonds on each shoulder. I chose the setting and then picked the right Emerald to bring it all together. Despite the size of the Emerald, it still cost AU$1,000 just for the gem. It was of the highest grading available though. It only goes to show that some dreams can come true. I do prefer faceted stones to cabochon but I still would gladly wear both. I'm so lucky that I do not have any obvious inclusions in my Emerald unlike most shown here. That's why it's preferable to have an Emerald Cut to show the clarity. How much I would dream of a pendant and matching earrings but that would just be a bonus as I have what I always dreamed for. What happened to your voice Andrew or are you still too busy to narrate yourself? I can't wait to hear your voice again. I hope you don't mind me making a suggestion for a future video one day. Zircons are having a remarkable stake in the Jewellery Industry but still way too many people get them confused with CZ's. Zircons are the oldest mineral on the face of this earth with the oldest coming from - Australia! The prices are skyrocketing but colours incredibly beautiful. They truly deserve to be rightfully acknowledged for the amazing gem they are. I picked up my Yellow Gold Huggie Earrings with Channel Set Diamonds from my Jeweller the other week and I'm over the moon! Just in time for my birthday. So classic and stylish. I may not have jewels the size of those you show in your videos but what I have truly make me happy. Thanks for showing one of my most special gems today Andrew. I hope you're still doing well and keeping safe. Love always, Kris.🇦🇺🥰💎

@@AndrewPidor Due to the Ruby mines from Burma being depleted, I would go with Rubies. I had a Ruby Ring made up but gave strict instructions to the Jeweller that the Ruby had to be red and not pink. The best Rubies now are coming from the South of Africa which is where mine is from. It's only .30cts with a Diamond either side of the Round Bezel Set Ruby but I do wear it everyday. Personally, it doesnt worry me where a gem comes from, just as long as I like it and it's good quality. Many are confused about where the next best Ruby source is, so anything showing that they are still widely available would be great. It was hard not to choose Opal being from Australia but maybe you can do that afterwards? That was such a great video of the Emeralds that it was impossible to even choose a favourite piece.
