Two edits, old courting scenes mixed in with the mother and cub footage. Male was sliding down the incline along with the female in the original footage.
Funny how you can use bits of the same footage to tell two completely different stories. Here, it's supposed to be a mother saving her cubs from a male. But in this video from BBC, a female is simply playing with the male at what looks like the exact same location: ua-cam.com/video/nB7gS5IcD84/v-deo.html Check out the slope at 1:57 here vs. 2:56 in the BBC footage - must be a polar bear hotspot or something :D
Misleading title, but worth it to watch him having so much fun. Reminds me of an obscene bear joke where the punchline is, "You're not REALLY out here to hunt, are you?..."
Fake story. The editor didn't do a good job on "cut and paste" from other videos not related to this story. At 1:30, suddenly the male polar bear got blood spots on the upper part of his body. And suddenly, the blood spots disappeared on the next scenes.
Definitely tricksy editing. The (presumably male) bear climbing behind the babies and mother bear had blood on its right side. The bear that slid down the mountain didn't. Edit: even more confusing - the bloody bear is only there sometimes. Why is PBS lying?
There was no avalanche and it looked more like the male was teasing and encouraging the cubs more than anything. The female bear was not at all panicked and the bit of snow she nosed down was very playful behavior as well. The male's descent was voluntary and he seemed to enjoy it with the way he slid and nosed at the snow. If that male bear really wanted to cause harm, the cubs would have both been dead. There also seems to be two different male bears involved becuase in some shots you have the playful male and in others there is a bear with some wounds and blood on him. This video is deceptive and misleading.
