If you're doing this whole album, I will be STOKED for you. The concept album Brave, along with Marbles, are my two favorite Hogarth-era albums from Marillion. You're in for a journey! Brave is also pivotal to the band's longevity, as they were being pushed by EMI to make hits, but for this album they decided instead on being artistically satisfied. This change in direction eventually got them kicked to the curb by EMI but it set them up for a different kind of success with their fans.
The way this album book-ends Bridge / Living with the Big Lie at the beginning with The Great Escape / Made Again at the close is just exceptionally magnificent. Masterpiece of an album. (And this coming from a predominantly Fish-era fan.)
Thrilled to see Marillion here again, and it's from Brave! Wonderful reaction as always, thank you very much for sharing your thoughts & feelings. I've been listening to Brave since the day it was released 30 years ago and it's one of my all time favourites, not just by Marillion, but by all the artists I follow. Hope you'll give it more time on the channel. Thanks again & cheers.
Yes, I think their turn was a bit past due and boy did I love these 2. Pretty certain more of this album will be on the channel. So happy you love it so much. Thanks for the visit and nice to see you again 😊
I bought this the day it came out in February 1994, and have loved it ever since. Despite not feeling like any song individually is anywhere near my top 100 or even 200, the whole piece is very definitely top 10 all time.
Their masterpiece from H era. My favorite album from Marillion. Fan of them, seen them live more than 20 times since 1998. As it's written on the booklet : "Play it loud with lights off"😊 Should listen to it on your own, loud with lights off in its entirely, as it's made for this. Can't wait for seeing the rest ;-)
Glad to hear some Marillion again! As others have said, when it comes to Marillion, one needs to hear their entire albums to fully immerse in the vibes. I don't know if the arrival of vocalist Steve Hogarth has anything to do with it, but Marillion of the 90s have become such a musical powerhouse; their albums are so profoundly emotional. I'm glad they're still on your radar. 👍
For sure! They have so much music, so they will certainly remain here for the life of the channel! Yes, I sometimes wish full album reactions were easier and also guaranteed to be unblocked here...Thanks for the watch. Curious to see your opinion on tonight's band...
This album has to be listend to in its entirety. When it came out that same year as Pink Floyd's Division Bell which I labelled retirement home rock I thought Marillion show them how to make real prog! I saw that show live in Zurich and they really played the whole concept album and songs like Mad are still in thier set.
Saw this show before 94 at bimbos San Francisco play them very loud my friend. My favorite album by them is misplaced childhood. XO thank you for this gift.
Wow….such amazing songs!! Haven’t listened to them in a while, I’ve got so much more Marillion to reconnect with. I’ve got nearly two dozen albums of theirs, I gotta start giving some a relisten! 😊
Came for the Genesis (Fading Lights) video. Stayed for the Marillion. You definitely have a real treasure trove to explore with Marillion. A tale of two halves (80s-era with original singer Fish and then 90s-present day with Steve Hogarth) they are a band that continue to make outstanding music that challenges you, uplifts you, empowers you and breaks you. Brave and Afraid Of Sunlight are my two favorite post Fish, Steve Hogarth led, Marillion albums. Both are a bit different from each other but just great.
Hi Brandon. Brave was a great concept album, dark and deep in the feelings. Lyrics are very meaningful and touching, reminds me a lot Pink Floyd by the Wall. It was the third with Steve Hogarth I believe, it's a whole story probably also to listen like a whole, have some very ambiant moods. Quite different than everything they have done previously. I remembered they made a tour and passed by Geneva Switzerland, and I was there by chance 1994 probably. Have a nice day!
@@retroreactions.... yes it’s very emotional, when you hear it loud with the lights off…and concentrate on this amazing and huge sound (The Steve Wilson remix is superb)
Wow I just realize it's been 30 years since I bought this gem. I saw them play the whole album live in Geneva. Even better on stage, you need to listen to the live version from the 1996 Made Again album some day.
Brave and the follow-up album Afraid Of Sunlight are without a doubt the best stuff Marillion ever recorded. FEAR (from 2016) is also a great record by the way.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Marillion, they're together since 1983 and still going strong. Give them more of your time to discover their discography, you won't be disappointed. 🤘
Thanks for the two Mahavishnu Orchestra selections the other day! As promised here is the $1 per song! 🙂 The donate button didn't show up on that reaction for some reason so I wasn't sure how to send you the tip! 🤷♂
😁 These weeks have been treacherously busy.... I've perfected time travel, now I need to learn how to stop time so I can film and post early!! Retro Reactions sees another day! 🥇
@@retroreactions.... 🥳👍 I just need to tone down my Retro Reactions addiction level and not worry about requesting a "wellness check" on you until you've been absent for a whole week?! 😱😭😆 Anyways, I loved your selection tonight, first time hearing for me as I don't think I ever got the "Brave" album? (although the album cover looks somewhat familiar)
What I don’t get is why there’s so much coverage on UA-cam about the overrated Pink Floyd when you have this band!? The world is so totally misguided. This is mesmerizing and blows all before them off the bridge!
Proof that an emotionally gutting journey can be fully satisfying as well... Thanks for watching! 🌉
My pleasure
So glad you're covering Marillion! More people need to know them. Their artistry runs so deep, to this very day in fact.
So glad you’re listening to this great band. I discover them totally by chance with the Marbles album… a phenomenal band !

For me Marillion is the best band in the world.
"Chelsea Monday" from their album "Script for a Jester's Tear" - a beautiful gem!
Best old song😊
Shame about the bad singing though

At last........... Marillion. Do the whole album, you won't regret it.

Sounds like a plan! I'm sure you'll enjoy their songs all over again..Somethin great tonight here I think....
The 5.1 mix of this album is one of the most amazing things I’ve ever heard!!!!!!
My favourite album from my favourite band. It deserves a full listen as the concept album that it is. Thank you for the reaction.

marbles is a genius work of art too
I've never been more immersed in an album than Brave. It's an incredible work of empathy.

Top 5 favorite album for me for sure! Beginning is a ships fog horn.
Absolute masterpiece the Brave album
The complete album is a masterpiece
Since their live performance of the complete album,30 years ago ,they got it hooked in me
Hello Christoph! i will assume (correctly) that listening to the album in 1 full listen is an amazing and highly emotional journey...Thanks!

I've only heard them on this channel. Very interesting band. Like Pink Floyd and Supertramp had a baby.
HAHA, is it your turn or my turn to babysit? And Genesis is the godfather! 😀 Enjoy the rest of your Thursday!
Thank you very much. You have a good Thursday as well.😃

What’s up with this bridge image on your left hand side?
It looks fantastic it really looks like the Severn Bridge.
Where did you got this…fantastic
Yes, it is Severn Bridge! Just found it online....
