According to his wiki, Crowe was born in nz but spent 10 years of his youth growing up in Australia and lives in Australia.

When he got in that fight in a bar around the time he hit the hotel worker over the head with a telephone, well it was Miss Bev that likely beat up those men. She's a 7 time karate champion.
