I've been painting Grey Knights for years and have to say to see this different take on the process was refreshing. Love how the model turned out another great vid by Cult of Paint.
This is totally awesome, great paint job. Finally pushed me to buy an airbrush... very scared and a little excited to start the new journey of my painting.
Great video! Love how it turned out, so simple but effective. Hmm...for future requests, I'd love to see some Chaos Space Marines! Word Bearers maybe. Classic baddies. Or the Black Legion.
Really love the subtlety between the blue armour and that blackened bronze colour for the lettering, the scheme I went with is quite dark and the lettering was brass scorpion which is quite a warm, orangey brass colour, so since they're complimentary it stands out, I like them - but if I had to do them again, i'd go for something a lot closer to this!
This is my first miniature set. I'm excited for it to come in so I can start building and painting. This really helps give me an idea of what I want to do, ty!
Well you've hit all my requests now! 30k Iron Hands and Iron Warriors, Grey Knights... Great tutorial, really informative! I've used your Iron Warriors scheme for my Grey Knights revival project, as I wanted a Dawn Guard from Skyrim-inspired force. All dirty metal and brown leather. I think we'd all love to see the Horus Heresy tutorials rounded out, plus some variations from the Red Books that you see out there. Raven Guard for a dusky grey/black would be super interesting!
I was out of the hobby for 15 years, got back and got WAY too much Aeldari to paint. But I got back my old metal Grey Knights army back from a friend. Will use this a reference for my future Grey Knights so I can get to playing small games while I figure out my Aeldari pile of shame.
Just the right amount of blue without going overboard, looks great! For a future video could I suggest how to paint stone? I find it’s on so many bases and terrain, and I’d love to paint some warcry terrain using your rotten wood guide without the stone looking out of place
Just about to start a tyrants legion force for a badab war campaign and this helps alittle with the marines in that force. thanks for the good tutorial
This looks very cool, probably going to use that bluish metal look something, not sure what though, as for future plans, deffinately planning an Ork army, but I've been planning that for ages, they're gonna be ww2 British 8th army inspired, Orky desert rats, I'm just not brave enough to put paint to models yet. That, and I'm still working on my Ad-mech and a couple of historicals as well. I think I have too many projects going on
Amazing video, I'm starting to paint my own Grey Knights army and I'm looking for inspirations. I know what you mean by the blue hue not showing on camera. I've used Turbo Dork's Silver Fox that has a blueish tone and it doesn't show on my photos
I'd love to see you paint up a titan from Adeptus Titanicus as Loyalist Legio Tempestus as I find there are no How tos or tutorials out there, in video form, that i can find :) Only just getting into Tintanicus so this would such an amzing boost to my motivation to paint!
Would love to see you push your Death Guard model a bit further. It's a great model and a great scheme, I'm just curious about what you would have taken a few steps further if it weren't an army painting video.
What would be a good equivalent to the scale 75 paints used here? Scale 75 is carried in any stores where I live and I can't find anywhere online with it in stock located in Canada.
rather than using a blue ink for the black metal stage, could you see hydra blue (scale fantasy) working well here? It has a nice blue-green tint, although it's not an ink!
Nice work! Any chance of some 40k Thousand Sons - I think they can be some of the hardest models to approach due to the gold trim/turquoise and yellow scheme.
Awesome video mate. For 3 years I've reisted the urge to get an airbrush but this video tipped me over. Please can you confirm what paints you used for the blade?
Great result! Love the blue armor! One gripe I have is that I can see the individual metal flakes in the paint. I feel like the Vallejo Metal Color range has finer grained aluminium flakes, which produce a smoother finish. Now I know that for gaming purposes this would not be a big issue, but I like my mini's to look great on closer inspection as well. Have you ever compared the different metallics you own by just looking at how fine the metal flakes are? I found that that was a good indicator of how much I like the finish on them.
got all my models built.. bought the paints you listed out.. but just so i don't mess up.. when you black out pre adding bronze.. what did you black out with.. not 950 model black? doesn't look dark enough.. thanks for thr tutorial.. can't wait to get started.
I'd love to see a video on how to use tesseract glow. I've been finding it so difficult to work with, and the videos currently available haven't helped much. I reckon it would be a popular video :)
That looks more like Arcane Blue from here, as a long time P3 user...? This is a great video that really shows how to add depth and additional color to silver armor, thank you, Henry!
Love this recipe! Started out with some GK minis some years ago but never gotten around to painting them, your video really made me think about getting back into them! Great work. Do you think one can substitute the panel liner with a gloss medium black wash for the armour?
A shame you didn't actually paint the new model. The sword from the new model is packed with detail! The box art really has this nice deep redish pinks with a high contrast of very very dark brown reds. I have yet to see anyone emulate it in a convincing manner.
@@cultofpaint Thanks, I decided to give the enamel pin washing method a go. How long do you leave the varnish to dry before pin washing? BTW, my better half bought me one of your infinity air brushes for my birthday recently 😁
Hey so I just noticed - scale75 have two colors of “black metal” - are you using the lighter variant here or the darker one? It seems maybe they recently updated the recipe?
>only paints baddies with red eyes >doesn't give the grey knights red eyes what did he mean by this? (all joking aside i love how the blue steel look turned out! the grey knights are very aesthetically pleasing and you captured that magnificently :) )
looks really bad and not grey knight at all, reds on seals washed out and more purple than red, golds are not deep and warm enough, just overall looks dull and washed out as a model.
I've been painting Grey Knights for years and have to say to see this different take on the process was refreshing. Love how the model turned out another great vid by Cult of Paint.
Thanks Dylan
After playing chaosgate I've grown a great liking to these shiny bois. Great video, and great scheme

You can do it!

Check out Patreon, Andy has just started Abaddon!
Love it!
My request: Word Bearers next please!
Perfect timing, I'm just about to start painting an army consisting of some new models and repainting (rescuing) a load of second hand models

Finishing the 30k series is a priority
Great take on this scheme. Wish I had this when I started my kill team a few years back :)!
I really love the look of your finished model and I will try it out on some high fantasy knights I have in the stash. Thanks for the vid'!
Would love to see this on some fantasy minis
Thinking of picking Grey Knights as my first 40K army. They look great!

Stunning! Very inspiring!!
Thanks!
These vids are excellent! Love to see your take on word Bearers.
30k or 40k?
Cult of Paint in a perfect world, both! But with a potential siege box on route, 30k would be awesome
Awesome, might use this to paint my shining spears, trying with greenstuff world chrome paint but i get the varnish right.
Would be excellent to post a follow up video with tips on painting the Red and White heraldry patterns across a whole army…
Lovely scheme mate. The blue works really well.
Thanks mate

Thanks! Some more basing ones would be fun.
This will be very helpful on the silver arms for my deathwatch entry at Golden Demon next year
Looking forward to your GD training montage
Looks awesome.
Great tutorial! Also, gorget is the word you were looking for to name the neck armour.
The bobble headed top heavy look to the grey knight models definitely needs a rework, so this looks great.
This is perfect as I am kitbashing a grey knights kill team thx for the inspiration legends yewww 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Great video, thx!
That is really great! Looks fantastic! I wish there were more Salamanders characters.
I would love to see your take on Tyranids. Especialy Gene Stealer!
Definitely need more nids!
earned yourself a sub, great job
This colour scheme is actually perfect for me… Need to buy the plants and air gun though lol😂

Boom 💥 not keen on grey knight but you may have just converted me

Only fair after this guy I guess!
Lovely scheme. Would you list the paints used for the swords?
Same as eye lenses
The transition at 1:26 it looks like a different highlight is added before the steel and cobalt. Am I missing a step or is it just a lighting thing?
Awesome video mate. For 3 years I've reisted the urge to get an airbrush but this video tipped me over. Please can you confirm what paints you used for the blade?
I can’t remember I’m afraid. But if i was to guess it would be sotek green, incubi darkness, P3 arcane blue

What color was the book done in? I don think you mentioned it.
Would be cool to see this lighter metall version on a iron warrior
Long time watcher, love the guides.
How about a 30k salamanders?
More grim dark style than the neon 40k eradicator??
absolutely
Really love the videos! Any chance we’ll see thousand sons on the channel anytime soon?
There certainly is, perhaps in a couple of schemes..
Can you give me any information about the model being painted here? Looks like a true scale grey knight? This is incredible
It's a slightly converted Castellan Crowe.
What is it you’re using to hold the model? And are you glueing the model to it? Thanks
Would you ever consider painting up a nice scheme for 30k Mechanicum? Maybe even something heavily weathered?
I’ll be painting up a knight Atrapos over on Patreon soon. That might well lead into a mech army….
@@cultofpaint I'll sign up soon then!
Hi can you explain me something . Part 5:04what color you used to paint the icon , logo , book , seal darker ?
Barak Nar Burgundy by GW
That looks more like Arcane Blue from here, as a long time P3 user...? This is a great video that really shows how to add depth and additional color to silver armor, thank you, Henry!
Promise you it’s exile.
Are you grey knight strike marines all the new castellan garran Crowe model? Since that’s way to tall to be the old model
yes
What airbrush thinner did you use for S75 metallics?
Lifecolour
Did you freehand the little icons on his heraldry shield?
No it was a decal. From the Blackshields sheet.
Love this recipe! Started out with some GK minis some years ago but never gotten around to painting them, your video really made me think about getting back into them! Great work. Do you think one can substitute the panel liner with a gloss medium black wash for the armour?
Yes absolutely
@@cultofpaint actually I've found the AK paneliner, so good to go :D
@cult of paint what brushes did you use??
As per description, AO and W&N
Maybe a little strange question, but can you imagine doing a tutorial on two smaller chapters like Absolvers or Sons of Dorn?
Absolutely, I hope we get to do most marine chapters in the future.
@@cultofpaint Awesome =)
I cant seem to see the sword tutorial? Am I going mad?

It is yes
I don't have any enamel or oil oil washes, would GW shades work just as well?
They will give you a different effect. Check out the Pin Washing video we did that explains the difference between the 3

It seems maybe they recently updated the recipe?
they changed the recipe a while ago. If you need it darker then add a drop of black into it.
Have the grey knights been updated to primaris size yet as I was going to wait to start a grey knights army
Sadly not, but the new Crowe figure that this is based off is primaris size
I know we have had a dkok but can we get yours please Henry! 😂
My wallet trembles for when that kit gets released….
@@cultofpaint we need to see your version on one of the troopers tho Henry!
What ratio did you use for the cobalt alchemy to steel?
I don’t recall sorry. But looking at it I’d say 2 or 3 steel to 1 cobalt
Don’t you find that varnish ruins the effect of metallic paints? I find it’s shiny in a much different way that I tend to not like
Could anyone help me with a substitute for Blackened Bronze? Can't buy Darkstar in my country. Does is look similar to Runelord Brass?
Warplock Bronze would be absolutely fine. If you wanted it a touch darker then mix in a little black.
@@cultofpaint Thanks! And I'm guessing for Darkstar's Antique Gold, the equivalent would be Liberator Gold, or sth of the sort?
what model is this!? is this a conversion?
Yes, kitbash based off castellan crowe, as mentioned on video.
What paint did you use for the primer? Please
Games workshop chaos black
Thank you mate! Do you reckon you can achieve the same look without using an air gun? I don't currently have one but willing to invest
