I miss the old days. This was one of my all time favorite movies. The theme song is so much a part of my childhood. My nephew in law gave me his Disney+ password the other day, and i almost cried when this movie popped up. Although i don't care for the "The Apple Dumpling Gang rides again".
I would visit my grandparents that lived in northern Minnesota every year for deer hunting. This was one of the only movies they had and it was on VHS. After every day of hunting I'd come sit in the house and watch this with my cousins. 12 years later my grandparents are no longer with us and I just rewatched this movie with my family. The emotions I got when the theme song came on were indescribable. This will always remind me of those times.
I always think of my grandparents when I hear this theme song as well. They were the ones who introduced me to this movie and I've loved it ever since. South Dakota here.
Ooh, I like this song and this movie. I like the sort of Western theme and the Deschutes area filming. I've been at this area last summer. It's a very pretty-looking area.
Here's the title song to The Apple Dumpling Gang, performed by Randy Sparks and The Back Porch Majority, the band I sang with from 1971-79. Our road trips weren't quite as old-fashioned as this! We performed across the whole United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. Typically played nightclubs for 2-4 weeks, 6 nights each week, 4 shows each night.
This movie came out a year after Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles which also starred Slim Pickens a.k.a. Frank Stillwell as Taggart. And in 1979, while this Disney movie's sequel was produced, Slim Pickens voiced B.O.B. in Disney's The Black Hole and played Holli Would in Steven Spielberg's movie, 194.
I watched this movie over and over again I bet Don Knotts And Tim Conway are the coolest Wild West bandits especially when they can't hit the broad side of a barn

Even today one of my favorite movies
If only Disney himself had still been alive to produce and see it. I bet he would've loved it.
I do believe you are right. He would likely despise what Disney has become today, though.
I love how the music ends awkwardly when they show Donovan. :p
If only Disney could make more live action movies nowadays like these ones. Original and classics.
