- This is a video I made in Plant City Florida on Collins Street on December 1, 2017 at 7 pm of the Plant City Christmas Parade getting interrupted by three trains. First Amtrak the Silver Star then CSX Intermodal train then after that a Norfolk Southern and CSX mixed freight all in a 30 minute time slot.
We get it already, CSX; you're sponsoring the parade. Gotta love how cities almost always set up their parades around railroad tracks.
Because the railroad tracks in small town USA are running through their main streets.
Well you still have to follow speed limits when kids are around

@@TheWhiteFamilySeries the town should know when trains are scheduled and plan a parade around their time tables. CSX and other freight lines are not going to hold trains back because a town is having a parade. 🤷🙄
I think these trains are adding to the fun of the parade. I would SO attend a parade like this!
My neighbor town Plainfield, Illinois hosts their Homecoming Parade every Fall and it routes through an active Railroad Crossing and it was not cut by a train once, I was in their Parade twice and not once was cut by a train.
Maybe they should consider using a different street next time. Like one without a crossing. LOL!
LOL sadly here in Plant City that's impossible there are so many train tracks. It also happens every March during the annual Strawberry Festival Parade.

Some people don't understand that there is very few roads within plant city that don't have railroad crossings. It would probably be impossible to have a downtown parade without crossing a few.
So then growup and get the hell over it. It's just a parade and splits don't matter.

this reminds of a parade that I saw in Fillmore a few years ago. they had to stop because a train was coming by, and it happened when a marching band was marching through the railroad crossing. the band was split into two. luckily, no one was hurt.
Luck has absolutely nothing to do with it. It's easy to clear the tracks in time people do it every day!

First off; what I've said many times, (on other parade/train videos) towns SHOULD NOT route parades over active railroad crossings. The incident in Midland, Texas, (about five ? years ago) should be a warning!
Second; A requested slow down for a town event doesn't always make it to the affected trains in quick order. How far in advance was this request? A few days, a few hours? The channels of message relaying can and does take time. This would be low on the priority list, below normal railroad business. I don't know the particulars regarding this event, but I'll refer back to my first statement!
it seems like the only train that did follow the orders was the CSX intermodal train.

This actually happened in my hometown's Christmas parade last year. One Amtrak train and then a long freight train.
Nice video man! I like the angles, and the fact you showed the entire train! Here in Bakersfield CA our Christmas Parade doesnt cross over any of the 3 remaining at-grade rail crossings (L Street and N Street along the BNSF line and 30th Street along the UP line), but our arena (Rabobank Arena) is next to the N street crossing any you have to cross the tracks to get to the main parking lot and before the city put in a pedestrian bridge fans leaving a hockey or basketball game or other event would have up to 20-30 min wait to cross because the trains going westbound have to stop 2x to switch the tracks as they maneuver through downtown. Many would get impatient.
It seems as if everyone in this video is patiently but anxiously watching the trains go by as they wait to see the parade.
I love to watch trains go by when i get a chance (i live near the BNSF line that goes through downtown Bakersfield and through the northwest part of town (where i live) on its way to Hanford and Fresno to our north). I know that is off subject but i wanted to share it with you.

When "visitors" get "bent" a train is going through "hick town USA" they're in. This train line is crossing main street. Check out LaGrange KY where the train runs down the middle of mainstreet !
In Canada I had a parade the amtrak in montreal was speed restriced so as the exo and csx

Great video but trains do have priority over a parade. The thing is trains have to jockey for time on the a single line because they must make time for another train going the other direction. Just in case you didn't know that....

camposwilliam62 I’m pretty sure there’s a siding before the crossing and yes they do have priority over parades trains are more important and you know they can’t stop in time for just a parade

That Silver Star was hauling. I'm assuming by your comments the slow order was in effect and they ignored it? Usually they don't go nowhere near that fast during the parades.

Great video and probably my greatest fear from when I was in marching units cause I was always on a flank. Thankfully the town I marched in where able to work times out with the area railroad, NW I believe.
I'm also going to add that Csx Overrides the speed restricituons if the train is high priorty on a tight time limit.
jjgravy; CSX corporation can order a train to override a slow order, however the Engineer and conductor onboard cannot override the slow order on their own. So, both you and Alex are correct.

At night even?!?! This town should be sued by parade participants for public endangering and negligence this never should have been done at night. The speed restriction? Oh yea a person or float gets stuck on the track that will give the train plenty of time to stop (if it is for 1 mph).
Living in iowaim more surprised by people being able to walk around in short sleeves in December. Here in iowa we would have a ton of snow and temps of 0 with windchills below that lol

Passenger trains have different speed restrictions than freight. And typically all speeds including restrictions are faster than freight.

Or you take the times from the last stop and the stop it's heading and you calculate how long it will take for the train to reach the crossing.. you could keep track of time and if you know how long it is in between each train then your golden.. that's what I would do

2 Days ago in Washington State, an AMTRAK train derailed onto a highway killing 3 people. My nanny told me.

trains have a speed that can't just stop it takes a while for them to stop
I don’t believe Amtrak follows speed restrictions I do believe those are only applies to freight trains and not passengers

Why have the parade at night
well these guys have a schedule to keep they are going to keep it especially if he was already late? well they need to change the route why have it where the trains use that track that much time a day and night then they get blame for not going slow its crazy

Give the Amtrack a speeding ticket. Now you're complaining the next train will take 10 mins. Doesn't matter how fast the train is going, it will still kill kids and adults too. There are warning signals and ppl see them, they should have a tight hold on their children. After all, that is a train track.
