  • Do you have spondylolisthesis? Approximately 1:20 patients that come through our office have this condition, and you can only spot it on x-ray. This is a hidden danger and why you must get a chiropractic x-ray before starting care. While nothing may happen in the short-term, this could potentially lead to complications if your chiropractor is unaware of the condition.

Hello 40 year old male here who has been in severe pain for 10 years. I have what MRI says is 2mm spondylolisthesis at c5-6...It's been very, very bad for many years. To simplify, it's difficult to hold my head up, pain through my chest, ribs, collar and heart. I can feel pressure on my voice box/ throat even. I absolutely couldn't lay down flat without the feeling of swolleling that would immediately start in my finger tips and progress into my inner shoulders and collar resulting in pressure through my heart area. Breathing was even something I had to think about, it seemed to be an effort to breathe. I have a
7mm tumor at my t6 and a few other smaller ones down lower. I assumed the 7 mm. tumor is what caused the spondylolisthesis but who knows. Just the other day while walking and in the middle of taking a step, I cracked my neck forcefully with 2 hands and WOW A abnormal HUGE KA POW!!! from the c5-6 area. This crack was 200 times more powerful than any before, my neck normally cracks 100s of times daily because it's always so tight, bound up and feels like my muscles are so tight they just want to mis align bones. Since then, 4 days now my problems have gotten way better, I can feel the nerve damage because I'm getting feeling back through my upper torso...it's a great feeling, I can breathe way easier, every breath is un labored. I can lay flat now after years of near instant problems. Things were bad for me...could my spondylolisthesis have just slammed back into proper alignment? Was I mis diagnosed with spondylolisthesis? Why did they grade it 2mm instead of 2/5? Any insight why this huge problem seems to have fixed itself?

It's unlikely the spondylolisthesis went back into place. If it did, it would still remain unstable. I can't give a diagnosis without an examination, as it would be a violation of my license.

Very informative video. I wish my chiropractor had ordered x-rays of my lower back before adjustments. I'm offset 2mm at L4/5 according to recent x-rays and MRI with significant disc and facet degeneration. I had a big "pop" moment like the weightlifter (a few months after weekly adjustments) but have no way of knowing how offset it was before adjustments. I'm in PT now to strengthen my core but feel it moving and hear it pop with certain movements like squats, crunches, leg lifts, and even some overhead lifting. I didn't know how serious it was and could get until I took myself to an orthopedic doctor. I don't think I will go back to that chiropractor. He ordered x-rays of my thoracic and cervical spine...why not also the lumbar before adjustments?!

We wouldn't recommend you continue going heavy on either exercise. Grade 2 spondy especially. If it slips more, you could end up needing surgery.

It is only sometimes that I experience pain in the affected area after working out, after which the pain resides given 2 or 3 days of stretching. • @COREChiropracticHouston

No, not fix. It's due to a fracture. The chiropractor can show you things to do to avoid making it worse. They have to adjust you differently to help with your back pain, but they aren't trying to fix the spondylolisthesis.

Pretty sure I have this condition in my thoracic region (feels like T5-T7 area) is this any more or less dangerous? You can physically feel where my spine “ dips” in when feeling down all my vertebrae. Feels like there is an entire Vertebrae missing.

It's not very common at all in the thoracic spine. Shows up more in the neck or lower back. You should be able to see it on x-ray, but wouldn't be able to feel it during an examination.

People have shown some reduction in how far the vertebra has moved forward, but I wouldn't call it a cure or even that it was 100% fixed. Best option is to continue to build core strength and adjust the vertebrae and pelvis around the spondylolisthesis.

My chiropractor took X-rays in his office before I started chiropractic care. However the pars fracture(s) was missed when reviewing X-ray. They were not read by a radiologist but by the chiropractor himself … I’m not sure if this is common practice. I had about 24 sessions. Fast forward 2 years after a move to a new house (lifting and unpacking boxes) I started to experience extreme debilitating back pain. A new set of X-rays revealed spondylolisthesis (15mm).

@@hanakareem4799 - we don't treat the fracture. We would help with whatever symptom you're having (assuming low back pain) by working around the spondylolisthesis.
