Would like to comment on the performance of violets exposed to natural (window) sunlight vs grow lights. Been growing violets for 30 years and have achieved a balanced plant with all flowers blooming in profusion. I also water from the top of the plant without wetting the leaves. It's a bit more tricky and comes with experience. It also depends on the potting medium and variety of African violet as well. Other than that, beautiful violets!
You seem like such a delightful person...no wonder your plants are happy! Thank you so much for the tips and I will be trying this too. I also get the reduced plants from the home improvement stores.
Thank you for this video! For anyone limited on time, the 3 tips are: grow lights! Use wick watering! Fertilize! (I would like a video of how you do the wick watering!)
I love your channel. I like how informative your observations are, it’s been very helpful. And I don’t ever hesitate taking your advise because I can see how healthy your violets are.
Hi Emaan! I have most of my orchids in a wick water set up either with Leca or bark mix, or sphagnum moss depending on circumstance and they are doing great. I like to tend to them weekly, dumping out the old water/fertilizer and washing through some new water and/or fertilizer but I know if I can’t get to them it isn’t critical to do it. Easier to go on vacation.
+Michelle Dry Hi! Yes this method is very comfortable. I left my flowers in wick water when I went for vacation. Good you reminded me . I have to do the same with my orchids too which I found from trash. Thank you 😊
Hello Emaan it's been awhile but I have to repot my African Violets and your Violets are absolutely GORGEOUS!! I'm also thinking of getting into "wick-watering" to save me time in watering my plants overall so thank you for sharing!!💜💜💜🙏🏼
I got some African violets recently and i am growing them in semihydroponics, which work wonders for them, they started producing blooms already after one month. But after i found your channel i learned much more about them. Thank you so much😊💚
Wick watering is the way to go. I use butter and margarine tubs. I cut a hole in the lid and thread a bit of yarn through the hole. Then i gently pull the violet out of its pot and pull the yarn through one of the holes in the pot. I shred the yarn and lay the plant ball back into the pot, making sure the shredded yarn end covers a large area of the root ball. I also put a weak solution of plant food into a gallon jug and fill the margarine tubs with the solution. The lid goes back on, the violet in it's pot sits on top of the lid. If you have the light right as well, you will always have blooms. Too much light, you get lots of blooms but pale leaves. Not enough light, beautiful dark green leaves but no bloom.
@@JamJamaHFX helloJam...It sounds tricky, but its prerty simple. U basically want to push a piece of candle wick or absorbing string into bottom of Violet pot touching the soil. Cut a few inches off ur main piece of string. Punch a tiny hole in lid of water container @ run ur strand down into plant water. SO THIS STRING WILL SUCK UP THE WATER @ slowly feed the violet. Hope this helps. Lol. READ my directions Slow @ you will understand.

Your violets are so happy! Their leaves all look perky and bright green, standing up at attention and blooming. I would like to see what you are using for wick material.
Thank you for giving instructions on how to maintain a healthy African Violet. I'm looking forward to learning how to prepare wick watering violets. Can you please prepare a video showing how we can do this.
I have followed your advice and prepared your Violet mix to find great results/success for wick watering in 4 inch pots. Some of my plants were so happy and the leaves spanned more than 8 inches wide BUT NOW many are suffering from very dry potting soil even though the wick is still in place. I think the plants are pot-bound, and the leaves are limp. What do you recommend I do? Do I have to start over? Scrape off old roots? Is there a UA-cam video?
Hi, Could you please tell me where did you get the growing light from? Where do you place your light? Thank you very much for sharing! I'm very new to this plant! I love the plant so much!❤
Your Video's are so detailed in care for your beautiful African Violets and have helped me greatly in my new African Violet venture. I have felt wicks I ordered on line with no instructions on the proper placement since they are 3 1/2 inches long. When using the yarn for wicks do you thread the wick to the top of container for full watering to the plant? I need a solution for overwatering and the wick watering seems to be the answer. Thank You for sharing and caring!!!
Great information. But heaving growing lights it can get expensive and taking lots of space and settings. Not everyone can afford having lights for their plants. Plus the electricity bills?

Hi Emaan your videos are so informative I love watching you but I have one question for you I have been trying find the hi yield African violet fertilizer but so far I have not been able to source it can you enlighten me as to where I can find it many thanks
I just love ur collection. 💕 For success like yours: 1. Grow under grow lights for 12 hours. 2. Use wick watering. 3. Use fertilizer. Dilute if using wick watering system (50 :50 ratio between water and fertilizer solution). I want to know however how to grow violets outdoors. I live in the Caribbean.
I love your videos. You explain everything so clearly that now I feel confident enough to go take some leaf cuttings from my mini violets and give this a try :-) Can you tell me about how long it takes to see babies emerge?
+Michelle Ackerson It is different every time. Sometimes I see the babies right after two weeks . Sometimes they sit for 6 months and even more. It depends from the type of the violet , where you grow and also temperature. In summer I see babies very fast, because days are long, warm. Usually in 2 months most of them produce babies.
I have learned so much from you. You have much more experience than I have. However, I think the wick watering is more important than the light. I have my violets in daylight in a room that gets morning and afternoon sun. The violets are near the morning window (southeast), and they are producing the flower displays that bloom above the leaves in a cluster, and the blooms last a long while. I have a mini with white blooms and it has a beautiful display high above the leaves of large flowers that seem to be lasting forever. I have three of the dollar pots from one of the box stores, and though I am just watering them from below (no wick), their blooms are also held high above the leaves, and several blooms come at once, but they are fading now faster than my wick watered plants. I have another bargain plant with pink and white flowers that looked sad when I bought it, though it was blooming. The blooms were very weak and faded quickly. It had another crown growing, so I separated the two, trimmed the lower row of leaves, which I am propagating, and put the two plants in wick watering. I expected the blooms to die and abort on the main plant after this, but to my surprise, the booms became more vigorous and all the buds continued to bloom. A plant I thought was drab and unhealthy now has beautiful long-lasting blooms sitting up above its leaves, and it is one of my favorites, though I reduced its size and expected it to go into shock. Your videos gave me courage to do all this. Thank you.
