1- Find two wires with highest resistance value. connect these two wires to capacitor.
2- Measure other wires for each ends of capacitor. Find next highest resistance. Connect this side of capacitor to AC.
3- Connect the other AC to common pin on switch.
4- Find values for the rest of wires with AC side of capacitor again and connect them to buttons 1,2,3 from high to low value.
I have a RAKS BF 12 RO box fan from grandpa. its timer and buttons were broken. I can connect 3 pin stepper motors but i didnt know how to connect this. When I tried it myself smoke came off so i let it sit in a corner for several years. Now I watched this and fixed it. My values were different, around 350-500ohm but i connected them as i wrote above and it worked. all tree speeds working right. He uses a capacitor like ones inside induction cookers but i just used old cap inside fan. I didnt bother checking values. These are bipolcar caps so direction doesnt matter. it is AC anyway. You must check the capacitor value. If your fan has been produced in recent times: you only use 1.5uf / 400v capacitor or no more than 2uf / 400v
@@AlfredH i used the one already inside case. it was not swollen so i thought it is ok. well it works fine.

Nice video, but I have a problem in one point, capacitor adding to starter winding , therefore one side of power adapter need to connect to main side , you connect green side since got second highest resistance, I think it is starting winding side , therefore power adaptor need to connect pink wire side (main winding) due to need phase shift to starter winding , Am I correct ?
Most electric fans are now designed to connect the largest resistance winding, so you connect the capacitor to the largest coil.
