    Ordering six chicks on monday from Murray McMurray Hatchery. Two of them will be whiting true blues! Super excited for them and the other four that we're ordering. The other four will be two silver spangled hamburgs and two ameraucanas!

    We just had our first kune kune piglets a few hours ago. Exciting! The pigs are at the new 18 acre homestead so all I have seen is a picture. I am at the other 48 acre homestead. The two places are 6 hours apart so it will be awhile until I actually get to see them. There are 7 and a variety of colors and patterns. Two are smaller. Crossing our fingers they make it. We can't run a heat lamp because the new homestead only has solar at this point and not enough battery storage for heat producing devices., Boar is registered and mom is supposedly purebred but not registered. Our other gilt is registered. She is a few months older than this mom but hasn't had a litter yet. We hope she is bred. Pigs are all together so we don't know when they got bred. We will be rectifying that as we get more infrastructure at the new place. Poor pigs have an old camper shell full of hay for a shelter. We have poured and 8x8 foot slab to build a new house for them but structure isn't done yet. I've been going back and rewatching all the kune kune piglet videos I can find.

      @@KCFarms Thank you. My daughter said sow was laying on the smallest one this morning so he didn't make it. So happy for the 6 beautiful ones we have. Other gilt is acting strange so my daughter thinks she will be having piglets soon. We are moving mommy and babies to another fenced area that gets more sun and less wind.

    For what it’s worth, my brother really likes the true greens. Also, Dr. Whiting seems like a cool dude. I’ve been using Whiting brand feathers for decades for fishing flies/lures, and he’s number one in that niche market.

      How much are the top grade gold hackles going for now? Used to be 130, even 170..

    • @mungobaggins8197
      @mungobaggins8197 3 роки тому

      @@johncspine2787 I think I’ve seen platinum grade necks and saddles at 170 and 190. But those are really rare it’s hard to judge an average price. Next grade down, gold, goes for about 120-140. I stick to bronze at about 70 a pop, and the vast majority of people do as well.

      I haven’t fly fished in a long time..when I was tying, I “invented” a fly that wasn’t the best in every circumstance, but, you could count on it when nothing else worked. I think I modified one from the Art of Fly Tying, the blue covered, spiral bound book. It had peacock herl body, a gold tag wound at the end, and I think a deer hair wing and a black and white hackle at the front..it imitated caddies in those instances, but looked enough like a generic bug or housefly, blue fly that sometimes it would elicit a strike when nothing was working..

    My McMurray order, it’s funny, they’re three weeks now, they’re very hard to identify! My true blues aren’t white feathered, they’re all dark, or one lavender, but I suspect little lavender is my Ameraucana. The Bielefelders And Speckled Sussex are hard to tell apart, the black ones are Cuckoo Marans and a Black Australorp, hard, but Australorp has a solid black head. I did put down my poor Buff, but, so far, all are great. Huh..maybe it is the true blue, looks kinda like yours, mine seems more lavender, or it’s wishful thinking. She is smaller than my others, hangs back, but is smart about scratching and finding..

      I’m grateful my order “packed by Chris” he selected true blues that weren’t white..I just am not fond of all white chickens. I feel sorry for the bloated eating machines that are the meat birds that can hardly stand on their own. Doesn’t stop me from making chicken breast stir fry, though..it’s so neat to see their feathers coming in, so..beautiful! Oh..if your brooder is in your living room, don’t give them a box of dirt for a dust bath, turns out, that’s a big mistake. Oh, the chicks love it, but, I’ll be dusting and cleaning for years after they go out!

    We have 5/5/5 showing up of whiting blue and greens and EE showing next month.. Face it though, raising birds is an addiction of its own kind. First year of having sucks for us turned into 1 Peking to 16 magpie and 5 more Perkins.. lol
    I should add as far as chickens go.. we probably have 40+ mixed flock. Easter egged are a favorite.

    I went to your Hatchery you used then 3 others to get them.
    The Bielefelder’s where sold out but none would do a preorder for a later date .
    I decided my plan is to stick with heritage dual breeds then sort out roosters I don’t need for meat. Etc I believe I said that in another video.
    Though anyway I thought you can preorder up till last date which is in October for most.
    I guess I just keep checking I got 5 acres waiting for them and kiko goats.
    Lol maybe one day I will get the chickens

    You have a lot of egg layers now. What do you do with all the eggs, is your egg market that good?which is a better market for you, meat birds or eggs?

    • @KCFarms
      @KCFarms  3 роки тому

      We do sell a lot of eggs but we are thinking about going to a local market. Also we have always wanted to use the extra to supplement the pigs feed. That’s kinda a tough question because we haven’t really marketed either eggs or meat that much just kinda spread word of mouth. Plus we eat a lot of chicken
