Bear with this video. I know a lot of the nuance of each event is lost with how quickly I cover it, but I'd like to keep the video a reasonable length.
Icarus Hello. I know this is not a political video but I have to ask. As someone who is very interested in Mexican, central and South American history, what is your opinion on the current situation in Venezuela? I am not trying to argue. I just ask out of curiosity.
@@ladva2 Hi there! No worries I'd be happy to answer, although I will have to be careful with how I respond. My personal opinion is that the current situation is really sad, it is disappointing in a deep way to see one's homeland and loved one's suffer so much. I personally blame the current situation on the widespread corruption and ineptitude found within the government. I don't know what the future holds, and being quite honest I find it difficult to even listen to any news from back home as its more than likely to just be more bad news.
Icarus thank you for responding. I’m just curious had you think about the US sanctions on Venezuela? I ask because from what I’ve seen/read, any time the US gets involved with foreign governments, those countries end up in a bad position. That includes Bolivia Guatemala etc... I know Mexico’s AMLO is left and is trying to turn the country around and fight corruption. I’m currently reading Hugo Chavez’s bio and I find that he was trying to help the poor and weed out corruption as well. I can’t realistically say the same for Maduro because the only thing I know of him is his relationship to Chavez. Any thoughts?
@@ladva2 From what I know although some sanctions may be on the country itself, a lot of the sanctions target specific individuals in the government, not the nation as a whole. The US has a bad track record when it comes to interfering in other countries that's true, but I don't believe Venezuela would be left much better left to its own devices at the moment. As for Chavez, although he did do many things for the poor of the country, I can't say I was ever fond of the man, the steps he took to further increase his power have led the country to where it is today. But that's just my perspective on the matter.
This is exactly what I needed! Now I can know more about my country and practice my English skills as well, thank u very much💕 Fun fact: This video taught me more than 5 years taking "history of Venezuela" at school 👍🏻
Bro I loved this video is very good, I think you would love about the president before Cipriano Castro and that he was obsessed with Paris and tried really hard to modernize the country even before the oil boom
Great video, but Chávez was portrayed in too good of a light I think. If our economy and society was already in a difficult place, he put the last nail on the coffin. But the pendulum will swing back, and a virtuous Venezuela will be again.
He was called Antonio Guzman Blanco he built a lot, later there was Marcos Pérez Jiménez and he was the one that built the most. The thing is that both are consider dictator but at least left infrastructure
I'm Bokivarian and you full of sheath talking about Venezuelan Politics , Chavez , Maduro the best they the Venezolans heroes..... Go to school and visit Caracas that way you'll agree with as
As a Venezuelan I applaud this video, great work at providing a balanced view of the history of my nation!
How the fack Democracy nation rich with oil could become dictatorship? Just by saing socialist bullshit to people?

Great video!
Don’t stop plz, you’re my only history teacher :)
Never mind, you didn’t mention US interference in modern history. Specifically sanctions.
My great great great grandmother was a Timoto-Cuica healer, she married my Spanish great great great grandfather.
This omits ALOT of what hapened after 1960.
Omits alot of what happened after 1960?? We make a 3000 year jump from 1500 BC to 1500 AD at 1:43 😂😂
Bro I loved this video is very good, I think you would love about the president before Cipriano Castro and that he was obsessed with Paris and tried really hard to modernize the country even before the oil boom
Excellent narration
Trying to understand why I have a genetic connection to Venezuela, this video explains a lot, 🙏 gracias

I love listening to these while I work. do you have a patreon I can donate to? I want to keep these going
Hey , I really really appreciate that, but these videos aren't worth anything. I truly appreciate the offer though and that you enjoy these videos!!
@@StateofNations the videos are definitely worth plenty
Great video thanks. You should do a video on the history of Myanmar. Are you going through countries geographically, by request or randomly?
I mostly chose randomly what countries I cover but suggestions push nations up the list!
@@StateofNations I'd love to see Myanmar too!
There's 2 versions of what happened with Baruta. Some people say he just surrendered.
🔥
thanks a lot!
At 1:43 do we legit make a 3000 year jump during what is perhaps all of known western middle eastern and far eastern history...
Communism when no iPhone.
BUT
Sounds like one of the worlds most unluckiest countries. One step forward two steps back. Good luck Venezuela
Some came by boat
The collapse did not come from socialism, but from authoritarianism.
But did Venezuela control part of Guyana
It just a question
slavery or encomienda?
The intro is trash. Adios.
no talk about the sanctions?? this is pretty much anti-maduro propaganda
