There are a few points I forgot to mention in the video:
IMPRESSIVE POINT: The individual who produced my scanner (Sid Knight) also produced the scanner bar for the KITT replica in GE's recent locomotive commercial as well as the 32 LED scanner bar in the KITT replica owned by David Hasselhoff himself.
LED lights are ALSO great because they have a VERY long lifespan. It's something like 500,000 hours.

The halogen scanners only ever have one bulb on at full brightness at any given time, which gives you that smooth trailing effect as the subsequent bulbs dim in sequence. With LED there seem to be 4 bulbs on at equal brightness at the same time which doesn't give you that proper trailing effect. Having said that the fast scan looks pretty close.
I've never liked LED scanners but I really like this one.

in the first scan mode, default one, there is something not right about the two lights on the edge, the light needs to go off the edge and have a moment when the lights are just fading before it starts its path back the other way. Fast scan looks correct to me. This is a timing thing, not a camera issue. other than that, this is so cool, when i was little, i always wanted to get one for my car when i got older!
My KITT has Sid's scanner and I love it.
You can see it on the General Electric commercial driving next to the train :)
which video?
thats not exactly the 64 LED version though. the actual commercial is good but on youtube not as clear. and don't like the music either. I have the song for it too. GE commercial version is 3 LED's per rectangle. ua-cam.com/video/sQdIUMrUZBM/v-deo.html
I find it fascinating what rights they were able to get to which robot in that video. #5 not so easy I guess. Data I guess is easy and Knight Rider and Lost in Space etc don't know all the robots or what shows they go to in that commercial. just look up GE Knight Rider Commercial here on youtube and you'll find that lovely bit of fun :O Interestingly the lightbar goes down to two LED's per rectangle latter on in the clip with the train. When it's in the warehouse it's 3 LEDs..

Are these legal while driving because I know with having emergency lights that are red & blue it is illegal? Probably best used when in a parking lot at a car meet.

It seems the controller box can obviously turn on/off led's in a sequencing pattern, but also dim individual led sections to give that amazing trailing effect. I need to open one of those controllers up, very intriguing stuff. I am a Pontiac/headlight retrofit addict and daily a 99' Grand Prix that makes 400whp. Awesome Video Sir, i'll have to go see if you have videos of everything finished now that it's been 5 years haha.
Led scanners do not do not sweep correctly, does not have the correct trail effect doesn't matter who makes it nothing gives that correct effect like the halogens
The age old debate continues. Some of us just enjoy creating something unique above and beyond being "correct".
The importance is that it meets your expectations and that you like it. Enjoy! I was thinking back and forth and ultimately decided to get a halogen scanner :-D but yours is nice
There is absolutely no reason why you couldn't replicate the 'trailing' effect of the halogen bulbs using LEDs - you can program a 'brightness curve' for each LED so that they light up quickly and trail off more slowly. It's a programming issue, not an inherent problem with LEDs.
I was putting together some stage lighting and one of the bars is 8 leds in a row ... of course I made a red scanner effect for it lol

Just purchased a wonderful KARR scanner to fit on my own car, got one quick question though, how do you connect the control box to the power supply? Don't want to risk blowing any LEDs or anything after nearly finishing up on installing.
most likely, same as any other electrical accessory. to battery through fuse and relay.
looks like the leds are aranged in the shape of the thing that lit up when kitt talked.
Ive gone thru 2 t-top Firebirds and never got around to making a KITT. Im jealous

I comment on that in the video at 14:56. The video and intensity of the lights makes it look amber. In real life, it's VERY red, and VERY bright.

watch the opening scene to the tv series and you will notice one thing EVERYBODY forgets unless you have too............... the nose on all the replicas are wrong ........ the turn signals on either side of the bar are NOT filled in or deleted ........... the opening scene shows a close up of the nose showing the turn signals have smoked or tinted lens covers that are flush mounted with the nose and if watched carefully they are held on by small screws 3 on each side of the lens cover

Very nice, but the problem with LEDs is that the fading effect is not the same as incandescent lamps.

The pattern seems to lag at each end, quite unlike the halogen version you see in the show, and more like the 2008 version. Not sure I like it.
Well, as with all things in life, people have various preferences. As for me, I'm still enjoying it, and have been for many years.

Hi there the little talking car he was displaying that talked is made by diamond select they are discontinued so you would have to get it off of eBay most likely they also have a super super super mode knight rider car that you would also have to get off of eBay because it is also discontinued they retailed around $50 but on eBay they go for a lot more unfortunately they are very nice though highly detailed and talk very nicely hope this helps

I am super into this light bar! However looking into Sid Knight I dont think I can support a person that spreads dangerous misinformation and unsupported conspiracy theories online. If there are any other options out there I'd love to know more about them! Thanks for making this video.
Glad the video was helpful, Brody. Not sure what misinformation you're referring to from Sid. Unfortunately, there's a lot of truth out there today that has wrongly garnered that label or is being censored. Whether or not something is "supported" often depends on what authority you're referring to. In any case, Sid did a great job building the scanner and I hope you'll consider my testimonial as a positive point toward purchasing from him regardless of his personal views you may disagree with.

Glad to see new vendors popping up. I've also been following a parts vendor in Italy that seems to be making some great parts too. The old guard parts vendors seemed to have been passed by while they were having their petty flame wars on the message boards!
I have a scratch made scanner based on the old Universal diagrams but it seems to have given up the ghost while the car was in storage. With the others your paying a small fortune to just sit on a waiting list if your deemed worthy to own one (that's back about 10-years ago when I was planning on going with the standard scanner maker of the time. During the days of "official" Knight Rider replica products!).

Great looking scanner you have there! Back when I had a KITT in the early 2000's ( before the engine died on me and I had to part KITT out :( ), I had Don Colie's high power scanner. That was long before they started adding the "woosh" sound to most of the high power scanners now days. I had Don's scanner in 2002 if I remember right, and it was awesome while I had it. I've had quite a few of the JC Whitney light bars, but I prefer the high powered scanner over that cheap thing anyday! LOL
And drain your battery im impress at your knowledge !!
Don has some quality pieces but he's certainly priced himself out of the game.

It moves backwards from the leds on the controller . Yeah its wired backwards .
Sara Muncy I took that into consideration watch the video it is wired backwards . When the controller leds are moving left the bars leds are going right . B A C K W A R D S > LIKE YOUR LOGIC DERRDEEDERR
though if he flipped the controller over 180 degrees it would be correct and in sync .
You looking at the bar here in the video in the car it's turn 180 facing the opposite.
