Zahira, how do focal points work when the entrance, dining and living room area are all in one space? I would love a video on focal points for small spaces or competing spaces in a small home.
Noted! Thank you very much for the suggestion. Sounds very good for a future video! Regarding your question, that depends on many factors. But generally, the same rules apply. Focal points cannot compete but must guide you through space. Depending on your open space, perhaps choosing one focal point is enough, or depending on the visuals, it may be that two works better. :)
Oh my gosh this is exactly how my house is! As soon as you walk in there’s the dining and living room in one- there is no entry foyer or anything . Also my house has so many windows so her suggestion that a bed should be the focal point as soon as you walk in the bedroom doesn’t work because right in front of the door there’s a huge wall of windows. Can’t put a bed there.
You are so great at explaining everything I cant believe how important interior design is. my room felt bare bones and after watching your video's I finally did something about it and made some changes, upgraded my room with a few things. Cheers!😀
Woohoo!!! I'm glad to know that! Interior design is like fashion! With some key elements and following design principles, You can transform a room dramatically! Thanks for sharing! ❤️
So helpful--love,love,love!! Still having a little difficulty with scale of dining room, lights, mirrors in reference to table but I am re-watching all of your videos, as I develop my eye!
Marvelous! You're doing it right! That is the process; With practice, you will master how to work with scales and proportions. 😍 Thanks for sharing, Janie!

Amazing work with your channel! I’ve been following you for about a year now, and got some incredible useful ideas and inspirations through you, helping me creat my little dream home. I love interior design, we share that passion ♥️ Although for me it’s just a hobby. I wish I could walk you through my space and get some feedback from you, since you been, indirectly, involved in the design process 😊 If you ever come to Thailand, when international travel is possible again any time soon 🙄... say hi!
Imaid my kitchen just what you advice natural color gray with focal point and it become very nice I love the way you think my English is bad but you are very use full zahera I'm from Syria 😍
Hello ma'am Your all videos are very helpful. Can you please make a video on interior and exterior material which we can use at our house. As well as its advantages and drawbacks.
Please suggest the colour combination of curtain and wall for bedroom, my bedroom is really big and I want to makeover it like really awesome..please suggest some tips 🙏🏻
I have learnt so much from you and followed your tips while planning my new house interiors. When ceiling is a focus wall, which material would you use as good alternates to real wood in a wooden ceiling? Is plywood with laminate better than engineered wood( wooden floor material used in ceiling instead!).
Such quality advice and presented so well! I have a small bathroom with light walls and the floor is a "wow" black tile with busy white design. Can a floor be a focal point? Right now that's all we see, to be honest
I love your videos! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I find them most helpful while I embark on my renovations and redecorating. I have a question for you. At 5:00 minutes in this video, you show a kitchen with a fantastic light fixture featuring many irregular clear glass balls. Do you know where I can buy one of these or who manufactures it? I would be most grateful for this information! Thank you.
Hi Zahira, As always, thanks for your great content! You make design principles so accessible. Question - what do you do when your living room has a natural but unattractive focal point that you can't change? For example, in my living room the fireplace area is central, dark, heavy and unattractive. The rest of the room is light and white. (I'm a renter so I can't make any structural changes or paint the fireplace area.) Can I try to create a focal point that I find beautiful or will it just compete with the fireplace in an unsuccessful way?
Hello Zahira, great Video on Focial Points. I‘ve got a Problem. In all my rooms, bedroom, livingroom and office is a short Wall and a Window the first thing you‘ll see. Any tipps on what to make a focial Point ?
Late but not least, nat 4:13 minutes in your video, you show a wonderful “bubble” pendant light in a dining room. Would you know where I can purchase this one? Thank you once again for your help!
Dear Zahira, thank you so much. When the living room is separated from the kitchen by a staircase... is it oke to create separate focal points for both areas?
Please help me, I love your videos I have a living room, dining room and kitchen in one space it is very difficult to group everything together and make it look nice you can consider making a video about that is a small house thanks
Zahira, can we have more than one focal points in a room? I have a red corner wall with a red chair. I was thinking of addind the natural panel wood on the otherside of the wall
Hi Zahira! I’m a little late to the game here but would be so grateful if you could tell me how to address the issue of having 2 focal points on one wall. I have built in shelving and tv unit right next to a fireplace. Any thoughts? We use the room mostly for tv watching but the fireplace is also beautiful with a marble surround. The whole wall is white.
Hello, I have a open space for 3 rooms dining and living room and a space for a small salon or something like that. I like the Japandi style but I love to get a black pieces in this space or use black decoration for living or dining room with consider the wall it will ne used for the 3 parts. I wish if u can give me a tips and color palate to make my first floor a peaceful home. Thanks for every effort u give.
Very informative...thank you!!! If I may ask you a question. In a somewhat open concept room which has the living room, dining room and kitchen in plain view in one large room... would it be ok if I create a focal point in each room as Long as they don't compete? Thanks.
Yes! You can position different focal points, but first, evaluate the space and identify engaging visuals to place each one and how it relates with each other! In the same “picture,” the focal points mustn't compete! Kisses 😘
1. Know ur space 2. Establish focal point - entrance hallway, mirror, bright colors. Musnt compete. 3. Livingroom must dominate from everything else. Emphasize w shape , color. 4. Dining - Vase on table. Lamp should not compete with wall. 5. Kitchen- Accentuate w backsplash or Light to contrast with other elements. Upper shelving decor. 6. Bedroom- the bed. Opposite to the door. If not possible place a desk, mirror, etc. Bath- vanity see first use a mirror if bathtub use a curtain as focal point.
I ve got a doubt mam. I do interior for small homes like max 600 sqft. so if I enter the home i will see the wall with a window in most cases. Can I make it a focal point on that area? Any idea mam.
I own an apartment which has got living room and kitchen in one place. Its an open kitchen. Moreoever dining table is in the living space. I tried to keep things in neutral color with few colour pops which goes with the theme, yet i ended up with an unsatisfactory result. I never find what im looking for or what suits my place. I donno why that happens🙄🙄🙄
So wish you could oversee the renovation of my home Appreciate your frat insights and style - love that rust orange sofa at the end of the video where is that from?

The background music should not have been there. Sorry, but putting music under talking is really awful video sound design. Competeing focal point, you might say.
