Hooper is a 1978 American action comedy film directed by Hal Needham and starring Burt Reynolds, Sally Field, Jan-Michael Vincent, Brian Keith, Robert Klein, James Best and Adam West. The film serves as a tribute to stuntmen and stunt-women in what was at one time an under-recognized profession. At the time of filming, Field and Reynolds were in a relationship, having met on the set of Smokey and the Bandit the previous year.
Sonny Hooper (Burt Reynolds) is the stunt coordinator on the action film The Spy Who Laughed at Danger, directed by Roger Deal (Robert Klein) and starring Adam West (playing himself). Sonny's antics and wisecracks are a trial for the egotistical director and his officious but cowardly assistant, Tony (Alfie Wise). Years of numerous "gags" and his use of alcohol and painkillers are beginning to take their toll. Sonny lives with his girlfriend Gwen Doyle (Sally Field), whose father Jocko (Brian Keith) is a retired stuntman.
Factoid: The "destruction of Los Angeles" sequence that concludes both The Spy Who Laughed at Danger and Hooper was filmed in the Tuscaloosa, Alabama area, with all but the final rocket car jump staged at the by-that-time-disused Northington General Hospital, a World War II military hospital near the University of Alabama. The huge stunt sequence was referred to by the crew as "Damnation Alley."

Back when movies were about entertainment. The cast in this movie is incredible and they really seem like they had fun filming. Rather watch old movies like this than anything new. Such a great movie!
Burt Reynolds’s laugh is one of the best things in life!
More importantly, Jesus saves sinners! God bless you
It was truly one of a kind .
A lot of g@y stuff in here. Idk if they're making fun or Hollywood stunt guys of its just regular hollywierd stuff ?
Cannonball run. He was great in Gunsmoke!
Great movie! No social message, no politics, just a good way to spend 1 hour and 39 minutes with a great cast of film icons. Bravo!
All films have social messages and politics.
In this case it was to highlight the underappreciated stuntmen of Hollywood.
Well said.
@@Oddball_E8I think what he was trying to say? It was smoother? Underlined? Just saying!?😅
He did say men are marrying each other lol
Not in so many words
@Oddball_E8 that's why it's such a shame that the Fall Guy theme song didn't include the last verse with Burt Reynolds.
(That's my other impression of a dog)
This movie is underrated. Comedy, content, and a story.
This movie is a time capsule of American movie history, Classic actors portraying the greatest stunt men and women of all time. This movie is so great.
Such a feel good movie brings back great memories of watching this as a kid in the early 80s but makes me feel sad at the same time!
Same here
Sally Fields is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS 😍😍 RIP Bert, you were my real life hero my friend! Thank you and, of course GOD BLESS 🙏❤️✌️
I saw this at a drive in, sitting in a 77 Black Trans Am with the Gold Bird and Striping. Talk about nostalgic.
Me too fun nights
I saw it in a 72 Buick Estate Wagon my mom drove when I was a child...
I bought a 1978 Black Trans Am as soon I could afford it after Smokey and the Bandit came out.
WOW...must have been Proud of that experience! I sure would be...
@jeffcampbell2710 too cool for school, brother. Too cool for school.
Batman is asking the Bandit on how to do a stunt in front of Roscoe P. Coltrane. My childhood. 🤩. Thanks for posting this movie!
You forgot airwolf
@@blakesinclair488 👍
No one could do this movie like Burt Reynolds.between him and Clint.Jim Carry John Travolta
Was batman in here? Where? Which batman?
@@XCambodianBuddha he was actor burt stood in for in motorcycle scene at beginning
One of my favorite Burr Reynolds movies.
Sally fields in those tiny white shorts.....😊 love the late 70s movies
Great movie, saw it in the theaters when it came out. First thing my brother and I did when we got home was recreate the motorcycle cop scene. This move is one of the reason I drive the way I do.
I miss the 70's, damn good decade.
Brilliant film! Took me down memory lane..
From insane car jumps to helicopter stunts, Coconutdaddy highlights all the best moments, including Reynolds' camaraderie with the cast and the over-the-top stunts that defined a generation. And with Burt’s swagger, the humor, and those unforgettable scenes, this film is the ultimate tribute to the art of stunt work. 🎞🔥
This movie set my early adulthood up went into stunts/wrangler because of this movie
This is a treat. Burt Reynolds movies have dated well, and this is the only one I don't remember ever seeing.
Sally and Burt had a nice run. He later said she was the love of his life. She didn’t say that about him, but she say she loved him.
Great download. Thank you!
she said* she
He cheated on her. She thought they were in love. Burt only ever really loved himself.... that was his issue.
He was VERY bisexual, you know...
I was 23 in '78, and I saw this movie the same day I passed my Airline Transport Pilot Certification (FAA) Check Ride. 5-hour Oral exam and a 2-hour check ride that included a 135 check on Beech-18, I am a lot older now and retired.
I was 5 and my first introduction to burt Reynolds and after this I knew smoky and the bandit was going to be awesome or the term was badass
Wow man! I was 10 and went on to get my commercial instrument multi and cfii!
I bet you got bummed to that day ballsack
I'm surprised Reed didn't do "Nothin' Like the Life". Haven't seen this since '82. Brings back memories of actually living balls out like this.
Stroke sjgns tingling in finger toes cheeks get your cat scaned
They really were the best of times!..👍
Society today cannot tolerate this type of fun and independence
Get in your cubicle
Good to see Frog again. She was great in the bandit movies.
Burt Reynolds the Legend I love all of his movies 😁👍🏴
O.M. Gosh! Forgot how great this film is!!!
So many old school people, and most all of them gone. This was a fun movie and a shame the critics hated it back in the day.
Man I miss all these guys burt and Jan Micheal Vincent and rossco
Great memories an sad at the same time 😢😊
One of my favorite Burt movies.
A great Burt Reynolds film about the true heroes of the action movies, the Stunt men and women, and weren't women beautiful and very sexy back in the 70s, that's what I miss the most!
Forgot Rosco P Coaltrain was in this LOL
James Best
Coltrane*
Ya beat me to it!! Imagine my surprise when I saw Roscoe in this movie! I haven’t seen this movie since I was a kid and never knew that Roscoe was in this movie!
Coaltrain. LMFAO
Coal train, lol.
Just a good ole' fun movie...well done to all......
Sally is the best sweetest lady ever
She really is that's why I found a lookalike for a girlfriend in high-school 😋👍
James Best laughs like he did in Dukes of Hazard in real life. Who new! ?
As a young man in the 90si had a crush on Sally Fields. But damn! Look at her in this movie.
As an old man in my 90s, check her out as the flying nun in the 60s
Burt and Sally did make a great couple in the day I do believe he meant it when he said Sally was the love of his life before he died...
Treated her like shit based on her book. 🤷♂️
@@laurinjoelschafhausen controlling !
During his prime and height of his fame his ego ballooned, and he thought he was invincible and immortal and too big for one woman.
You gotta love seeing Terry Bradshaw in his prime.
With hair too. Do you know Burt gave him this part on the day Terry came onto the set to visit Burt? They quickly invented this scene for Terry and did it in one day. Bradshaw told this story on Jimmy Kimmel a few years back.
@@XCambodianBuddha I like how they incorporated the fact that Terry had a missing front tooth and pretended that it got knocked out in the fight.
That man STILL blows my skirt up....Diehard Houston Oilers fan here...but Steelers my #2...What a great rivalry and time for football. Miss my Oilers so much.
This was my favorite movie nobody new about as a child made me want to be a stunt man so bad i became a river boat captain pretty close lol
If only we had Stroker Ace on here too. That'd be the perfect double feature. I've been looking for a UA-cam version of Stroker Ace FOREVERRRRRR! I'm so crazy for any Burt Reynolds movie directed by Hal Needham. Those two were a great creative pairing. 😊
❤️ this, gator, deliverance and Connery's Bond turned me into the wreck i am today.
Throw in a few, Truck, movies,in there..e,g, ,,,,wall,to wall,bears,, even in the air..Convoy 😂😂

Great movie and loved Adam West as himself. POW! BAM! Awesome.
Wait? He was in this movie?
@@XCambodianBuddha He is the star of 'The Spy Who Laughed at Danger' aka the picture they are doing the stunts for.
@@Ghauster Oh, so he was the guy with the 2 chicks that walks up to Burt after he did a stunt?

@@jamesblazin7740 I met him at a comic con in the early 2000's in metro Detroit
The part with the dog always makes me laugh. They make it more than obvious it is the stuffed dog that takes the fall.
RIP Burt Reynolds 😔

This was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid. I wish they would have shown a topless woman with big Hooters. Jan Michael Vincent got discovered doing this movie, b did not become famous until he stared in Aiur Wolf, sad that he passed away.
Wrong! He was "discovered"in 1970 for the TV movie Tribes after being on TV since 1967. Ever hear of The Mechanic 1972 with Charles Bronson? Google ever?
Not that I'm old or anything, I went to see this when it first came out. I hope it's still as good as I remember it.
Burt Reynolds had to be the most charming man to ever live. That giggle
More importantly, Jesus saves sinners. God bless you
Jaws Hooper and the apple dumpling gang are the first movies. I ever saw in a movie Theater
At the 09:15 mark I had that same exact stereo receiver back in the 70's. If I remember correctly, it was a Panasonic. I also had a Sansui I picked up on Okinawa in '72. It was a QRX 5500A model.
Nice to see sheriff Roscoe P.Coltrane handing out some percodan's. Ahh yeah!! The good old days.
My doctor want give me Nothing for my back I had L4 L5 lumbar shave no Cartilage in 5 layers Must be nice to get what you want
Burt was a stuntman before he got into acting
I actually like this better than Smokey and the Bandit. Seeing Burt doing his own stunts is magic to see. AND good ol' Terry Bradshaw!
I was 19yrs old when this movie came out it was a great movie 🍿 then and it still is today
Opening scene reminds me of well me , getting reading work in the morning . With out mariachi music
My favorite Burt Reynolds movie second would be Stroker Ace, then the Smokey and the bandits, Cannon Ball Runs 1 and 2, and Longest Yard. But Hooper was by far #1 in my book.
I always watch this when I can !!! Grew up on the PCH and the canyons at the time this was filmed . Not so green anymore. I've thrown Snowballs on Deercreek Rd about this time . Great memories that always makes me smile 😊😊!!
Wrecking all those beautiful cars. It hurts to see 😂😂
Loved watching this movie as a kid, possible not seen for nearly 40 years! Cheers😊
Jan-micheal Vincent.
Any body remember airwolf.
I was only 2 when this was made.
This film is excellent on so many levels, especially now we are in the world of CGi.
The big scenes may be smoke and mirrors... but the little things in these movies are potentially life changing / ending.
Just notice how many insane stunts Burt Reynolds does for real in this movie.... then spare a thought for the unsung stuntmen that do the 'really dangerous' stuff!?
Fantastic thanks for sharing this
I has forgot all about this movie....thanks for posting it up.....made an old f@rt laugh this evening.
Comments on here about the headlining stars which I wont dispute but I reckon that Bob Tessier deserves a mention He was the hardest man in Hollywood. RIP BT.
Butt is the ad lib KING! 😂 He was literally the funniest guy in the room at ALL TIMES! 🤣😂
He was happiest with Sally Field, even if she thought he kissed lousy.
Oh hell yes, thank you.
Loved all Burts movies..favorite is "Stick "..Candice Bergen, Charles Durning,George Segal and of course the great stuntman Dar Robinson.
Great actor sawly missed 😢😢
Sally was so fine. I'd take her over Lonnie any day. Burts true love was Sally. He later said he messed up. Just look at her fine build, cute boot, pretty legs. And that natural beautiful face and hair.
I agree 100%. Sally was a natural beauty. Lonnie felt fake...

@gregh1853 Naaah, Bro. I touched her...she felt fake... 😁
No, you're right, she was fake!
Fantastic one of my fav films still got it on VHS
Loved dancer putting himself back in the corral.
A fun movie! And sort of a Smokey & the Bandit meets Dukes of Hazzard meets Airwolf meets Hardcastle & McCormick union!
burts iconic laugh
I loved this movie 🎬 growing up and I still do
Several scenes shot in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and I worked as a laborer on the film. Those were exciting times!
The guy with the silver hair was the movie mogul that awoke with the horse head in his bed in The Godfather.
👍
David Banner's father in the Incredible Hulk
Thanks for uploading.
I hadn't watched Hooper since I was a kid.
Everyone is dead, except Sally Field. That's depressing.
I'm still here.
I ain't dead yet 😵
Exactly right,at 54 these are the ones I watched with my dad, sure do miss him, hope they are all waiting for me in Heaven ❤️ God bless,Gen x for ever.
The scene at around 8:30 reminds me of my Ex & my mates Ex's, Sally Fields had the Nagging scene down to an art form. She'd only been with Bert for about 12 months by this point & she did this so well something tells me she was well used to doing that with him from pretty early on in their relationship . .
Can you believe i passed up "STAR WARS " FOR THIS MOVIE WHEN THEY CAME OUT IN THE THEATERS.... I HAVE NOT CHANGED MY MIND ABOUT BURT REYNOLDS MOVIES SINCE....
DISNEY OWNS THIS AND I CANT WATCH IT ANYMORE.... BUT ITS BURT REYNOLDS AND THIS IS THE FIRST MOVIE I WATCHED IN THE THEATER....
I went with my friend and grandad!!!
Just awesome
Brian Keith was hilarious
So So what? So you going to marry my daughter.
Damn Sonny always talking as he grogley wakes up for a moment
Damn Jan Michael Vincent was almost as cool as Burt Reynolds.
If they had the full 1500 lbs of pressure they would’ve probably died!
Spoiler alert!
If they had full pressure they'd still be orbiting the moon by now!
Damn there doing the stunt in a bandit trans am how fitting
thanks for movie
My banktelleg and temu made this posible
Had this on vhs for years 😂
Years ago I was in a York pub with some like minded types & a fella walked in who was the absolute spit of Bob Tessier. I said "Christ its Connie Shockner!" which resulted in much ribald laughter. The poor bugger checked his jeans thinking that his flies were undone.....RIP Bob & Burt. You worked well together.
Hooper is a gr8 picture
Great movie. Haven't seen it in years. Thanks for the video
He called an elcamino a truck 😅 that caught me off gaurd
They were condidered a truck because there was no back seat. Same thing with the rancheros.
That Burt said that he was in love with this two feet woman is beyond me. How on earth was she ever a Hollywood star? By the way this is a very good movie and should have done so much better at the box office. Burt is great and it's good to see drinking some Coors that he smuggled from Texarkana in Smokey and the Bandit. RIP Burt.
Great
Opening theme sounds like Don Rickles walk on music
Another good one to watch ⌚ ,,,
Watched this 1 in the theatre at 11
The opening scene to this, reminds of the scene in Cat Ballou, when Kid Shelleen sobers up and gets his black outfit on to go get into a gunfight with Tim Strawn.

Sally Fields is my dream woman.
Wow! Terry Bradshaw with hair! Whodda thunk it?
This is definitely one of the all time favorite movies ever.
I have shod the greatest stunt man horse. So I feel pretty lucky to be in that kind of company
The music is splendid
