It's so funny. One sees this young and sweet child walk into the recording studio and it makes a person wonder how she could ever pull off this Screaming Jay Hawkins powerful tune. And then, with the first note, we realize that this is no ordinary child. This is a fire-eating dragon who has come to record a song that will be gifted to the ages. This is the first song I ever heard from Angelina and I simply did not believe it. I thought it was a child who had an amazing talent to lip-sync some talented adult. To prove it, I watched some more of her videos, and (no one warned me) that this is all that it would take to put me on an incredible journey that had only one possible outcome - to be a fan for life.

I'm an old man and I remember when Dinah Washington recorded this song (Grammy winner in 1959). Angelina's version was just as good, and she was just a kid. That led me to her NGT performances, and I was hooked. I've now seen/heard everything she's posted multiple times.
She looks so professional cause she's the boss , everybody in this video works for her including her grandmother we saw there . It's her studio , her hand picked musicians , her compilation .so yeah all the confidence in the world & they did it perfect . I imagine them going home after their day with this young lady, and their wives asking "How was your day?" and they reply, "Unbelievable... just unbelievable." These musicians affectionately refer to Angelina as "The Boss", because she knows exactly what she wants. You saw at the beginning where she was making changes to the arrangement and the producer looking at it and smiling. He said later in an interview that she was very polite, and referred to the changes as "her wishes". She is the prodigy that many have said she is.

There aren't words for this! "I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video). She starts low, rising in intensity throughout and finishes in an unexpected and practically operatic style. "I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video). She starts low, rising in intensity throughout and finishes in an unexpected and practically operatic style.
You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. This shows another aspect of her musical IQ and arranging genius (not to mention her masterful control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age). I have a daughter named Mimi, Mimi. In this song Angelina is the cutest monster you'll ever see. Over and over Angelina surprises and entertains with her versatility and love for music. I have a feeling that Anglina did not donate all her NGT winnings (500,000 Kr = ~$80,000) to charity. She probably used some of it to fund performances such as this. Eventually, she began to use just a guitar player to accompany her.
