lol HalRae's mouth was open at that last note she sang... i've heard these songs a thousand times and my focus changes, but that last note, and just how perfect it was and ended so neatly... just amazing. but then all of it was. also, glad you point out that she sounds old but also that you can tell she's young. so many just ignore that yes, you can tell she's young even though she sings so much older.... but also take into account at this point she isn't 100% proficient at english so that adds to her a bit odd inflection on some phrases.. but that definitely makes it unique, her own, and in no way detracts from the performance...

This song is arranged by Angelina in the spirit of the original 1956 by Screamin Jay Hawkins and I don't believe Amy could do what this little 9 year old is doing right here. So so many technical skills and inflections and pure genius she possesses in this arrangement far surpass most singers much much older than Angelina. This is a pure masterpiece, epic performance that, as one music teacher/coach put, will be studied in music classrooms for decades to come regarding "child" singers. Amazing reaction to a song Rolling Stone said was in it's top 500 best ever song performance! She does Amy Winehouse songs, some she had to rewrite lyrics to make them age appropriate. She rearranges all her songs and had been working with this band for some time when she did this cover. They refer to her as, "Boss", and know she knows her stuff when it comes to knowing what she wants them to do. She did "My Funny Valentine", when she was 10, then this year shortly after she turned 16. It is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to a microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance, then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... There aren't words for this! Angelina is the only musician in her family. She won Norway's Got Talent at 8yo (not 11). Her grandmother is a painter and sculptor I believe. "I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video). You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. This shows another aspect of her musical IQ and arranging genius (not to mention her masterful control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age). The man reading her notes is the band leader, not her father. These are all professional musicians. No one in her family plays an instrument. The notes, BTW, were instructions to the band. She is in charge of all her songs and their arrangements even at that age. The band affectionately called her the boss. You may notice at the end, she gets thoughtful and puts her fingers to her chin. There was something she didn't like. I think that's why there was a 2nd take with herself and the band outside their boxes and a piece was cut into the first take.

JMax, people may have already pointed this out, but two things: one, she was 7 years old when she auditioned for Norway's Got Talent, and 8 when she won. She was when she auditioned for America's Got Talent The Champions Season 2 - which aired in 2020, but the auditions for which were in 2019. She's 16 now. There will be a ton of recommendations that you'll have to go through. I don't know how you'll pick yours, but however you do, I'll be around. And yes, I definitely think you should have HalRae for your reactions to Angelina. Given how musically talented your family seems to be, have them too!

She began a serious study of jazz, with the help of maternal Grandma (the one you saw in this video) Meri Zamani, at the age of three. Child prodigy for sure! Ms. Zamani was also a child prodigy in her native land of Iran when she was a child, and is a famous poet/artist in that part of the world. She is the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina wrote and her Grandmother illustrated a book about why she sings barefoot. She was on a trip to Iran where her grandmother is from and met a street girl weighing people for money. Angelina sat and talked with the girl. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, a doctor but that it could never happen. Angelina told her to never give up hope. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Angelina sings barefoot to this day to remind herself (and the world) that there are still children in need. All book proceeds go to charity.

The page the gentleman is holding at the beginning, is actually her handwritten notes laying out what she expects from everyone. In studio, they playfully call her the "Little Boss". That's not her family, but that is her grandmother. On the candle she holds up, is Screamin' Jay Hawkins. He wrote this, and performed it originally. Nina Simone later covered it. 😆💕
Angelina has sung barefoot, except for rehearsals, since age 6 in remembrance of an orphan girl near her age that she met on the street in the middle east. The girl was using bathroom scales and weighing people for money. It was cold, she was barefoot, and her feet were scarred. They chatted about their dreams, and she asked Angelina what her dream was. Of course, Angelina said she wanted to be a singer, and sing for the whole world, and asked the girl about her dream. The girl said she wanted to be a doctor, but that was not possible because she had siblings to care for, and she wished Angelina luck in becoming a singing star, and she told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Angelina, on the spot, gave her the sea green boots, her favorites, that she was wearing and told her to never give up on her dreams, called her a “princess” and that she would always remember her.
Angelina wrote in her diary that day, “…to be able to do something for another human, it was such a big thing. Hard to describe really.” Angelina, at 9, became Norway's youngest author when she wrote a book about it, "Mellom to hjerter" ("Between Two Hearts"). Angelina promised herself never to wear shoes when performing again until there were no more children around the world without shoes, clothing, or family. In her book Angelina says, “In respect for you and all children like you, and that you prayed to God, today I walk barefoot on cold floors in front of so many people and sing. This book is for you little princess. You’re like sunshine! I remember and remember you every day.”
Angelina has raised many millions of Euros and Dollars around the world performing at charity concerts since age 8. So, to this day, almost 9 years later, Angelina has always performed barefoot in public. lol HalRae's mouth was open at that last note she sang... i've heard these songs a thousand times and my focus changes, but that last note, and just how perfect it was and ended so neatly... just amazing. but then all of it was. also, glad you point out that she sounds old but also that you can tell she's young. so many just ignore that yes, you can tell she's young even though she sings so much older.... but also take into account at this point she isn't 100% proficient at english so that adds to her a bit odd inflection on some phrases.. but that definitely makes it unique, her own, and in no way detracts from the performance...

So so many technical skills and inflections and pure genius she possesses in this arrangement far surpass most singers much much older than Angelina. This is a pure masterpiece, epic performance that, as one music teacher/coach put, will be studied in music classrooms for decades to come regarding "child" singers. She rearranges all her songs and had been working with this band for some time when she did this cover. They refer to her as, "Boss", and know she knows her stuff when it comes to knowing what she wants them to do. It is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to a microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance, then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... There aren't words for this!
Angelina is the only musician in her family. She won Norway's Got Talent at 8yo (not 11). Her grandmother is a painter and sculptor I believe.
"I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video).
You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. This shows another aspect of her musical IQ and arranging genius (not to mention her masterful control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age). The man reading her notes is the band leader, not her father. These are all professional musicians. No one in her family plays an instrument. The notes, BTW, were instructions to the band. She is in charge of all her songs and their arrangements even at that age. The band affectionately called her the boss. You may notice at the end, she gets thoughtful and puts her fingers to her chin. There was something she didn't like. I think that's why there was a 2nd take with herself and the band outside their boxes and a piece was cut into the first take.

JMax, people may have already pointed this out, but two things: one, she was 7 years old when she auditioned for Norway's Got Talent, and 8 when she won. She was when she auditioned for America's Got Talent The Champions Season 2 - which aired in 2020, but the auditions for which were in 2019. She's 16 now. There will be a ton of recommendations that you'll have to go through. I don't know how you'll pick yours, but however you do, I'll be around. And yes, I definitely think you should have HalRae for your reactions to Angelina. Given how musically talented your family seems to be, have them too!
It's true, when the music starts playing there's nothing but music in her head. She said it herself once in an interview that she dives into another world when she sings. And a judge from Norway's got talent said she "IS" music.

There is actually a short video of Angelina singing "I Will Always Love You" (Dolly Parton / Whitney Houston) in her crib at 18 months old, in answer to your comment on that. She began a serious study of jazz, with the help of maternal Grandma (the one you saw in this video) Meri Zamani, at the age of three. Child prodigy for sure! Ms. Zamani was also a child prodigy in her native land of Iran when she was a child, and is a famous poet/artist in that part of the world. You will sometimes see some of her abstract paintings in Angelina's home recorded videos of song covers.
