I know this comparison is late but this is AFTER both got a software update. Does the cheaper Galaxy S21 take better pics than the more expensive Galaxy S21 Ultra?
On Export the night mode shots didn’t get labeled! 😭 The second shot is obviously the night mode shot (The brighter and sharper shot) sorry about this.
This is exactly what I was looking for. The most important thing for me is being able to take photos of houses for my real estate business. I also take casual photos with the family. Given that the 10x zoom isn’t a priority to me (even though it looks fabulous on the ultra), I’m going to go with the regular S21. Thanks so much for guiding my decision!

congratulations Danny, you are one of the few content creators, who are showing the evolution of the cameras after the updates ... that makes me always connected to your channel.
I have taken a screenshot of the 30x moon comparison and looked at the results. Surprisingly, the results are very similar. The S21 Ultra photo just has more craters (the S21 doesn't really show the Tycho crater), but many other craters/structures look basically identical with both phones! For example the rays of the Copernicus crater look nearly identical. The S21 moon photo also doesn't look more pixelated! This suggests that the S21 uses a lot of machine learning for the moon. Samsung already confirmed that they use machine learning for the zoom. Due to diffraction, it's physically definitely not possible that the S21 captures the same amount of detail from certain(!) moon craters.
Great review, I actually own a S21+ in black and love the phone. I was actually wondering if I should sell it to upgrade to the Ultra, but seeing your comparison helped me see they are very similar unless you really need to use the Zoom feature.
It's very appreciated that you took the time to re-do this comparison after the software update, many reviewers forget about the phones right after release.
I seriously hope it comes with an update because there isn't even much difference zoom wise between 2x and 3x but the quality will be a lot better thanks to the 3x being optical zoom
Thanks for the video! As someone that has small hands and prefers smaller phones, I was leaning towards the S21 but was interested in the Ultra because of the camera/battery. After seeing this review, I'll go ahead and stay in my comfort zone and get the S21.

Amazing video presentation, thank you! I really just wish that you have shown a comparison of the Slow Motion and Super Slow Motion that these two phones offer. Samsung have made a big change in that frontier to the S21 Ultra!
ive literally been watching so many s21 comparison videos to see how the camera would compare to my huawei p30 pro at taking moon pics and finally at the end of the video you answered my question! thankyou for a great review! i still cant decide which to get though!
What are your thoughts on indoor action videos with these two? My daughter does horse sports that I need to video, sometimes on zoom, and often inside an arena.
Bro im telling you with the feb patch my s21+ has gotten way way better...it has the best overall camera in this price range...the picture quality you get is almost unbelievable and the videos look gorgeous. If anyone want to go with the base s21 they can very well go for it.. Its worth it. I'm extremely happy with this devices camera performance.
What would be nice is to compare a Note 10+ vs a S21 Ultra so we could see if image/video quality has improved, of course zoom tests aside, curious..hmm Thanks for the video, these S21 series are amazing
Absolutely fantastic video! Thanks a lot for the great content, as always! I was sold to the Ultra by the dynamic range alone already, and then came the night mode portraits. Finally an Ultra that's really worth it! Now I'm hoping Samsung gives us the option to use the 3x zoom camera for the portrait mode on the Note 21 Ultra!
Wow... With the exception of the 30xzoom, which let's be honest, is an unnecessary luxury, I'm definitely going for the s21, great phone. Is there a major difference between the regular and the plus?
the difference is that the s21+ is a bigger phone with a bigger display and bigger battery. If you want better battery life and a larger display I would go for the plus model
How is the image from s21 sharper and more detailed than that of s21 ultra at exactly 1.47 in the video. The texture on the rock is far more detailed on s21 image and s21 ultra has some sort of motion blur or softness on the texture. Why is this? Was s21 ultra moving a little when the pic was taken? Even at 3.41 the texture on the concrete crocodile looks much more detailed on s21 image. This is confusing and disappointing at the same time. A more expensive phone taking less sharp images is unacceptable.
Great video Danny! I would love to know your opinion on DXOMarks s21 ultra camera review scoring a low 121 points. Wondering if you could do a video on this and take similar photos to the review and compare them with the competitors? I'm sure viewers would find this very interesting to watch.
What I think is this. Don’t worry about DXO. They are incredibly hard to trust these days and I think real world photo examples are only way to go. All of these cameras are so good now I don’t think it’s really an issue which one you buy.
I can see that but that really isn’t my style. It would make my job so much easier really if doing it that way but there is zero bias here. I couldn’t care less which camera takes the better shot. I think I am the only one that gives these many samples to back up my claims.

I love this. It just shows that Samsung's wasting space with their 108mp sensors. Pixel binning does a decent job saving it from being bad in low light, but a 12mp sensor if the same size would have been WAY better across the board. It's just so frustrating. A 1/1.3" sensor wasted by tiny pixels. They could have even made it 16mp and had a much better camera. Tired of the spec war, they think having big numbers gets them sales, when really they just end up in a downgraded experience vs what could have been. Even a 50mp or 32mp sensor at that size would have been better. I just don't get it. And then when shooting 1080p, they have to bin down 32 pixels to 1, but low light video isn't great because at some point the binning can't overcome the lack of light. I can't wait for a company to release a sensor of this size (or larger) at 12, 13 or 16mp.
Hey Danny! Since this is an after update review I’m curious to know how much the S21 Ultra has improved since launch .. I had it but sold it coz of some horrible image processing issues I had observed early on. There was a lot of over sharpening and weird green digital noise. Has the overprocessing been rectified?
