    Thank you for your video. I just installed my brake pads, and they are working great. Just a little note. As many of us, I watched different videos on doing the work, and even when the videos ALWAYS SHOW how the bottom pad tab is positioned to push in the pin while inserting it, no video has any warning, highlighting the importance to do ti in that manner. I ended up doing the work twice when I figured that some of mine ended up with the pin on top of the pad.

    I didn’t go for it. But auto shops been quoting me just for brake pad changes. Front and rear axles. Not rotors. Just pads. $550-$650. The lowest was $360. Lmao. I just changed my brakes myself after watching this. And I was able to buy the premium pads because I didn’t have to pay for labor. Thanks for the video. A lot more simple than I thought. Fuck automo shops. UA-cam is king!

      Javier González yes the piston clamp is necessary. You can get a clamp from any auto store though. I got one from autozone same day I bought my pads. You do have to press the piston back into place.

    Great video. My fiancé has a 2015 Altima and I will be changing out her pads this week. I was flushing her brake fluid but the 1/4” hose that I used on my Honda Accord sport and her back brakes is too big for the front bleeder screws. I’m going to have to try and see if I can find a smaller hose, not sure of the size though

    The video was great and made my job much easier. The only comment/question I have is...since this was the first brake pad change for my 2013 Sentra (only 24,000 miles)...I assume the sensor positions were correct from the factory. Both of my sensors were at the top position from the factory and the new hardware supplied with the new pads only had the sensor prongs on one of the brackets to slide into the sensors on the new brake pads. Your video shows installation with the outer sensor up and the inner sensor down. I didn't know if this was unique to my car or if anyone else had run into this issue.

    Just remember to check the brake fluid level after doing it this way don't fill before you do it this way .witch is the easiest way but yeah that's how i do mine you don't have to bleed them unless the slender is leaking or you undo the brake line so simple glad to see someone else doing it this way good video and great quality keep it up

      Do you know if they replaced the pad retainer hardware, cleaned and lubed the guide pins, lube the tips of the pads where they rub on the retainers? I would assume they have but that’s where I would start. Also when debris like little tiny pieces of rock get stuck between the pad and rotors it can cause this but are you in a place where that’s common? Do your rotors look rusty when you start your drive each day?

      If you have a C-clamp you can use that with an old pad to compress the piston, but the tool is commonly available for cheap and handy to have. Often called a speader, They are very cheap at Harbor Freight Tools, Walmart, or Amazon for about $5-10 bucks. • @MINUTEDIYVIDEOS
      @MINUTEDIYVIDEOS  7 років тому +1

      +Parrish VanPelt People often use c-clamps in the place of a piston press without a problem. Some Caliper shapes might make a c-clamp harder to use than others. A small piece of wood can usually level these odd shapes making it easier to use. Thanks for watching asking a great question!

      I am about to start the process of replacing some pads but I was curious about the same thing.

  • @danielventura6391
    @danielventura6391 7 років тому +3

    Awesome video! Definitely giving this a Like. But may I ask what you're doing at 1:50 with a Piston Press? What does this do? And how will I know when it "flushes"?

    • @MINUTEDIYVIDEOS
      @MINUTEDIYVIDEOS  7 років тому +3

      Thanks so much! That step refers to pressing the piston back into the caliper housing. The piston slowly takes up the space of the wear on the brake pads so when you put new pads (which are much thicker than the old warn pads) in the caliper, the piston must be pressed back into the housing until it's flat or "flush" with the housing. Now the new brake pads will fit :)
      Thanks so much for asking, let me know if you have other questions!
      Luke

    • @jordansdad1221
      @jordansdad1221 5 років тому +1

      Ok, with pressing the caliper back into the housing, you don't need to bleed the brakes?

    • @kipster-ll6po
      @kipster-ll6po 5 років тому

      @@jordansdad1221 No, you only need to bleed the brakes when air gets introduced into the brake lines, which in this case it does not. By pressing the piston back into the caliper housing, you are simply forcing the brake fluid backward through the brake lines and back up into the master cylinder reservoir...which can overflow. I have always taken the cap off of the reservoir when doing this so that it can easily overflow, if it needs to. Be aware: Brake fluid doesn't last forever - it needs to be flushed/replaced periodically.

    Hi, thank you so much for making such a wonderful video. One question, I have heard around that people tend to jack up the car on both sides (using car jack and two jack stands) and there are specific points on the car to put the jack stands under. Since the brake job (changing pads and rotors) can take a while, is it safe to jack up and support one corner of the car first ? or do we need to jack up and supports both corners (changing rear rotors/pad) ?

    • @shanejunior23

      Hello Trevor, you can do either. Changing your brake pads don’t require you to have both sides lifted at the same time. I personally jack both sides up at the beginning that way I can get it over with, but that’s just me. Read this article. It is very informative. It’ll definitely help with any questions you may have. auto.howstuffworks.com/auto-parts/brakes/brake-repair/change-brake-pads.htm

    Do you have to turn the piston everytime you changed the pads?

    • @MINUTEDIYVIDEOS
      @MINUTEDIYVIDEOS  3 роки тому +1

      Yes because the new pads will be too thick to fit over the rotor :)

      Thanks so much! The piston press is really cheap at Harbor Freight if you have a store near you! Also a good place to get a torque wrench to make sure your bolts are tightened to the right spec. :)

    Great video , I have a problem with my lug nuts being too tight what kind size breaker bar/extendible wrench should I get ? And can I buy the 21mm socket just by it self? Thanks

    • @MINUTEDIYVIDEOS
      @MINUTEDIYVIDEOS  7 років тому +1

      Thank you! Autozone and other automotive stores sell the individual sockets, usually for $2-$4 each, I would get a cheap breaker bar from harbor freight if you have one in your area, they have 20% coupons online so be sure to use one, they accept them right off your phone. Be sure to buy the same drive socket as the breaker bar, usually 3/8" or 1/2". The 18" long breaker bar should do the trick but there's also 25" ones providing even more leverage. If they are seized from any type of corrosion or rust try a little penetrating oil like PB Blaster around the base of the lug, just be careful not to overspray onto the rotor, calipers etc.
      Thanks so much for watching! Best of luck :)

      dopeboiJr Position your socket and breaker bar on each lug nut as to twist them counter clockwise and carefully use your body weight by placing your foot on the end of the bar by standing on the end of the wrench. You can do it! :)

    So when I drink my right side in the front makes noise but it’s silence when I brake what could that be or do I need to change my brake pads

    Why didn't you resurface the rotors. I have never been able to do pads without actually changing the rotors.

    love your video!!! @ 2:24 you mention "torque guide bolts to 25 ft-lbs" how do we determine that?

    • @MINUTEDIYVIDEOS
      @MINUTEDIYVIDEOS  5 років тому +10

      Hello! Thanks for asking! You use a torque wrench, which can get at harbor freight for a decent price. You set the desired torque on the wrench and then tighten the bolt until the wrench starts to click indicating it has reached the set torque. There are other type of torque wrenches other than this click type but most are made so that you set the desired torque and the wrench or tool indicates or stops at the set torque. Be sure to look at the units because the wrench can be set to foot pounds, inch pounds, or newton meters. Hope this helps! Thanks so much for watching :)

    Great video. Did you with Bosch brand for a particular reason? So many posts on brand preferences. Now that they have been installed for some time , what is your review of them?
    I know front and rear pads are different. Do you have part number to both front and rear pads or even amazon link? >
    I would like to compensate you for your efforts through Amazon link.

      Hi Javi! Yeah I have been very happy with the Bosch brand, the build quality does seem better than some of the cheap AutoZone and Napa pads I used to use a while back. But to be honest I have used ACDelco and KFE since I stated buying pads on Amazon because all these brands are available for about what the cheapo no-name brand pads cost in stores and I have found all these better name brands to be pretty similar with Bosch and KFE being my favorites. Thank you very much for watching and asking about my experience with these pads, I really do appreciate it!!

    How long do the brakes last

    After I’m done with everything do I have to press the brake paddle down a couple of times or is it good to drive.

      With new brake pads you'll have to compress the calipers to make it fit over the new pads since they're thicker. When you're done, the brake pedal will go to the floor a time or 2. Just pump the brakes until it feels normal.
