I flew Gran Canaria to Frankfurt in October 2021 on the Eurowings Discover A330 in Economy, I wouldn’t have any issue travelling long haul in economy with this airline and found it very similar to other long haul economy set ups, even though the plane wasn’t new it was very well presented and didn’t look old. Service was very good especially considering it was a sub 4 hour flight.
Hi! Flying home from Panama City with this airline. We’re you served the same food as In the video or did you have options. Also we’re there more than one meal, or should we bring something to eat with us? Thanks, August
By direct you mean Nonstop. Ex-Airline staff I am and when an Airline says a direct flight, it means one or more stops like for example an Original Frontier Airlines flight that flew direct ATL-ICT-ATL. It was a direct FL flight Denver to Atlanta but stopped in Wichita. Nonstop Denver to Wichita KS. We had another direct flight from GRI-LNK-OMA-PHX-TUS. This was a direct flight from Grand Island NB to Tucson. Nonstop from Omaha to Phoenix. Love your channel. I correct you because I respect your channel. Calling a nonstop a direct flight is a common mistake. Alaska Airlines ad agency recently did it in SFO by calling a nonstop SFO-LAS a direct flight. Where does it stop? FAT.
That's a very American perspective :-) All non-stop flights are direct flights of course, but not all direct flights are non-stop. Flights with stops are very rare within Europe, so "nonstop" is simply not used here; even the airlines don't say this. "Direct" flights are ones with a single flight number (which MAY include a stop, but don't *have* to). You can see the European practice here: www.britishairways.com/en-gb/destinations/johannesburg/flights-to-johannesburg BA's flights to JNB are non stop and direct, but only the word direct is used. Same again here with Lufthansa: www.lufthansa.com/xx/en/flights/flight-denver-frankfurt ... "Non stop" has no real meaning in Europe and only has proper currency in North America which has a unique aviation market!
@@Paul_Lucas Few Airlines do any direct multi-stop flights today. Most Airlines have their Hubs and focus Cities. Eurowings Discover was erected in a very short time by Lufthansa and they hired mostly employes as crews who previously had lost their jobs at other airlines and became unemployed. Their Pilots are mainly former Lufthansa Pilots who they fired during the Pandemic and who they now reengaged for Eurowings Discover with a much lower salary. This Flight Attendant was probably a former Thomas Cook FA who lost her job when Thomas Cook filed for bankruptcy, who was probably then unemployed for two or three years and who got now a - definetely lower payed - second chance with Eurowings Discover.
Everyday I stray further from even bothering on Lufthansa group airlines. Intra europe I am Finnair all the way, the detour to Helsinki doesn’t even bother me because the flights are almost always better in terms of service/ quality. Great video!
@@matiasvaara1478 that explains why when I was looking on flight radar at AYs A350 some were doing Las Vegas and other secondary American cities from Frankfurt, I thought it was an odd fifth freedom flight, but that’s good to know. Really hope you can do more budget and economy airlines/flights. I know they don't draw those hot views but for your returners, I think it's always a breath of fresh air amongst the deluge of business and first class videos.
I just flew from Fra to Mru yesterday with EWD! It was on one of the older LH A330's! The service though was even better than on LH flights! This cold food you were served is not the main meal on a long haul flight! It is the second before landing.
If it makes you feel any better, last week BA served me fried rice in Club LAS-LHR......Just fried rice, they ran out of the protein (chicken) after 4 rows, yeah 40 J passengers were served fried rice.......Thankfully, it was a full fare ticket so as soon as I landed I killed the return leg and booked a VS flight instead.
The cascading down of older aircraft from a mainline fleet to a charter/low cost subsidiary is of course nothing new - one of my first flights was in a British Airtours 707 from Gatwick to Tangier. As you rightly say there are many question marks around this offering but properly done is this model how mainline airlines can compete against their lower cost brethren? After all the idea is only about 50 years old…
What a contrast to when we were there in October and November. Check in rammed. Flew back on Tui 787-9 G-tuil in October. Airport bus driver pointed out several hornets coming into land as we were waiting for others to board the bus that took us to our plane. Love this place and I don’t mind the airport either.
I fly the London To LPA Gran Canaria route every year and how I miss Norwegian out of Gatwick on this route....was the best experience everytime and prices were very rarely above £120 RTN but now it's so volatile price wise .....this year going with TAP via Lisbon.....was bit worried when you said they lost your luggage...only time will tell
I found gran canaria airport to be a pretty decent airport when i flew there in march. Pretty logically layed out and the security was super quick! Much faster than Groningen-Eelde where we were the only flight of the day. That Tui plane was pretty cramped though.
Indeed.👍 From the Gate to the Bus Stop and the other way around - you will not have any problems to find your way - and mostly you´ve not much need for waiting while queueing up. And if you dislike Burger King - there´s also a McDonald...😀
That's a bit of a shocker, i see most airlines now cut costs. I went to Cape Verde (just short of 6 hours without delays from LGW) in March and for the first time in 7 trips there was no food included in the fare (i didn't see that advertised on the TUI website when i booked and i'd have had a very hearty lounge breakfast if i'd known). They were however selling hot food on the plane which was God damn awful. The wing i sat next to on the 787-9 Dreamliner on the way back had so much gaffer tape on it, i can't see how it was safe to fly. Keep up the good work of exposing poor services and amenities Paul.
In winter 2023, they used these planes on the normal daily Lufthansa route from Vancouver to Frankfurt. I don’t know if the price was adjusted or not but I’m glad I avoided them
I just stick with BA across Europe in Club Europe (I know it’s not worth it on the A320s/A321s) but made the most of recent double tier points offers with BA holidays with the canaries and Greece offering 320 points return (double the usual 160). Regardless of inflated prices vs competitors, I won’t stop flying BA due to their service and Heathrow T5. Couldn’t imagine ever going back to the likes of easyJet etc now that I’m Gold
Never, ever had a problem with BA. Perhaps I’ve been uncommonly fortunate, but I’ve always had good service (on-ground and in-flight) and I think that their Business product is still one of best around👍🏻✈️
Michael O’Leary makes a good point that Lufthansa thinks using lowercase letting on the livery makes an airline low-cost. That’s the problem with legacy airlines that set up low-cost subsidiaries, they still have the same operational costs as a full-service airline so they can’t offer truly low fares.
Oh dear. Just before watching this video I watched Dennis Bunnik's Ryanair flight which was also awful. Haven't flown yet since the world opened up again and with the chaos at airports and the poor flight experiences people seem to be having I am still reluctant to get back on a plane. Thinking of resurrecting our Covid cancelled Canada trip next year but holding off booking it for another couple of months. At least there is one benefit from the Covid issue. Air Canada only operated their Rouge service from Manchester before the pandemic but now you can get the proper Signature service to Toronto. Hopefully it will still be available next year.
The VIP Lounge wasn't that great when I went in 2019. Last year it was closed for renovation. Nice to see, what a great product resulted now. I defintetly check it out, when I am at Las Palmas Airport next time.
as a person who has just got to try business class once i'll love to sit in that seat instead of economy on a long flight from europe to asia for example. Direct isle would be better though.
AD: Jetbrigdes and widebodies. It is one gate that have jetbrigde for widebodies. The gate most to the north. It can even use two brigdes one one plane.
I have flown on four of those airl8nes. Ryanair, EasyJet, Jet2 and Norwegian. My favourite was Norwegian to Florida and Jet2 within Europe, the less said about Ryanair the better
My flight from Prague to Bristol was delayed also but didn't get notification until I was at the airport I could have done a walking tour of the city instead 😬
The one and only time I flew on an A330 was right after the acquisition of US Airways by American Airlines, and an A330 was being used on the flight from Orlando to Philadelphia. Seeing an A330 flying for American Airlines was very weird. They were outdated at the time and soon were retired. I guess I was lucky to be able to fly one of the few A330 operated by American Airlines.
The A330 is one of my personal favourite planes. I started to fly it very frequently when it was a backbone to Emirates’ young fleet in the early 2000’s, and in recent years I was flying it a lot with SAS to North America (with a lot better business class in a 1-2-1 configuration for quite some years).
brilliant awsome video paul im on a 8 yearold airbus a330-300 for virgin atlantic on monday oct 3rd flying back on the 18th landing in the uk on the 19th
Hi Paul, keep in mind that when going to the canary islands, there is a lack of wifi on a bigger part of the flight path (this is common of most of the airlines). The lounge in Gran Canaria is an awesome spot to wait for your flight, specially if the gate area is crowded. The views as said are amazing. With regard to your flight, just take it this way, the seat was more comfortable than an A321 ;)
The assertion that the lack of WiFi is a common problem on this route for most airlines, is just false. I'm sorry. I've flown from here to MAD and MUN. Never had a problem.
Well next time I'd suggest you to read about the so called WiFi. It is an onboard cloud where you can download Magazines, play games etc. Also, as someone else said, what you had was the second meal, which is served before landing. Pretty picky aren't you? And those are the reasons to avoid flying 4Y? Really?
The Lounge Access will be build up more and more in the near future as EW Discover is just flying since summer 2021, so no wonder not every airport they fly to provides lounge access yet. In addition to that, meal service differs from long haul to short haul flights, as this was a short haul the meal service wont be that extended as on longer routes.
To be fair: I saw a few EW Discover Flight reports from flights to Cancun. and the Produkt is much much better then this 4h flighI think the service in business class has improved a bit. And on short or medium-haul routes it's definitely not the best, but I've seen worse. I hope the airline as well as the mother Lufthansa develop for the better again. CS promised it ;). The debts due to Corona have now been largely repaid. Other aircraft may or may not say that about themselves.
That's a different company. Germanwings was integrated into Eurowings and the brand was dissolved. Discover however is a stand alone airline inside the Lufthansa Group with no attachment to the main Eurowings brand. They just use the term Eurowings Discover for marketing purposes since this brand-name is already known for the broad public
Dont forget, when flying LH on those routes you also can "enjoy" a blocked middle seat and no IFE. Food quality on LHs flights has dropped a lot within the las years. So not a big difference
Hi Paul, I’ve been following you for years and really enjoy your vlogs(?). I’m writing because I would like to ask you to do I review of the food on Air France whenever you have the opportunity. We recently flew AF from JFK to CDG. Your review of the food on this flight reminded me of how bad the food was on AF. Another friend said that she had had the same experience. The food was almost awful. Is it us or is the food really not suitable for human consumption. Thanks!
Flew EW Discover 2 months ago from Frankfurt to Tampa Bay Florida... Worst flight of my life... Decided to go with flights that have layovers rather than flying with them again...
Hi Paul, another great video. I may have asked this before but I notice that you always touch the aircraft as you board. Is this just for luck???, lol.
I traveled with this airline last week, from FraNkfurt to Calgary, they lost my luggage. There isn't a phone number or person you can talk to. Very unorganized. Everything is online. Bad experience.
A low cost air line is more of a business model than a reflection of the prices the passenger pays?I think that it's roughly an airline which does most things online and if you forget anything you'll find it difficult to find staff for the airline to check in manually at the airport and if you do find any staff it'll be pricey but as you probably won't find them because there aren't any you won't need to worry about that so make sure you check and double check everything!A European hop? Mauritania brings home the fact that the Canary Islands are in fact an archipelago of the African continent rather than Europe.I was reading a claim recently that they are the only part of Europe that you can see the Southern Cross, just ,from,no they are not Europe!
They aren't on the European continent no, they are on the African continent but their classified as Europe because they are owned and governed by Spain, a European country.
The Canary Islands are part of Spain and therefore part of the European Union - and on a vacation that is important in a couple of things: which immigration rules are in place (the Rules of the European Union), in what currency you´ve to pay (in Euro), what Law is enforced (the Law of Spain), which language the natives are speaking (Spanish) and so on.
Yeah, the fact that they don’t charge less isn’t good! If this was a genuinely cheaper product, it’d be great, but it just isn’t! At least the crew seemed nice!😸
Paul, Have you ever visited Lanzarote, this was my favorite airport to watch with a live stream because you had a side view of the runway and could see the planes taxi to and from the hanger. They changed the location and now it's a head-on view with foreshortening and little else to see except on occasion . MIght be a nice place to visit. Cheers, Rik Spector
Not sure I see the difference between this and Lufthansa - at least this is a fully flatbed, Condor or Candor another subsidiary only offers angle flat
Condor is since a long time no longer a subsidiary of Lufthansa. Lufthansa sold Condor back in 2002 to Thomas Cook and they were a Thomas-Cook-Subsidiary until Thomas Cook filed for bankruptcy in 2019. They managed to survive this and are now an independent airline runned by a London Investment Fonds as Majority Owner.
I´m very familiar with Gran Canaria and the airport there - very nice to see them again, even if only via UA-cam.😀❤❤❤👍 And beyond that I must smile: What do you expect from Eurowings/Discover - Lufthansa on a 4-hours-trip: Lufthansa would have putted a bottle of Mineral Water in front of you and that was it...😀 They need to safe money after the Pandemic.
I wont mind them to long haul destinations like DomRep Punta Cana and Fort Myers FL USA (to avoid domestic). But Gran Canaria I still have the option of others and IF I t must be EW then I will aim for their a320 flights
Sounds pretty average not good mate..- Ambiance of the cabin and the food mate.. Hope you got couple of Single malt whiskies onboard in your forthcoming flights. Cheers, Pradeep.
Many people want to fly as cheaply as possible but expect Business class Service. Anyone who wants to fly cheaply has to suffer...that is the bitter Reality.
Maybe you shud adapt your palet to different type of food and specially vegetables, rather than junk food or the Worcestershire sauce 😂😂😂😂😂😂 coz it looks quite nice and decent for a 3hrs flight on a low cost …
Eurowings looks much much better that BA business class anyday! Considering the price you paid for the trip, you got yourself a real bargain. Trust me.
I took eurowing once only, in economy for a flight from Zurich to Hamburg. It was ok for a short 1h30 flight but for anything too long, I would not want to take them
Great video as always Paul and went through Gran Canaria airport beginning of April myself . A very long terminal but due to covid so many shops now gone. We are back out in September will be interesting to see if any others have opened. I also keep my eyes peeled in case an F18 hornet takes off as well😀
UGH! Your meal looked like leftovers taken from the trash! So much for the better meals one is suppose to get sitting in business and or first class. Just hope they improve the meals soon.
I discovered the price for wiz going to Israel was half the price if I went through Cyprus. But there’s no way I’m sitting wedged into one of those for 5 hours lol. Any suggestions on a cheaper route to Israel?
Thanks for the video! Regarding the subtitels in the video: Remeber that "Eurowings Discover" and "Eurowings" are two different airlines! They operate independent and have nothing in common beside the little name "Eurowings" as part of their name ;-) So: Do not mixup.
Eurowings discover had a project name being Ocean. it was more intended that eurowings discover would be a long haul leisure airline. But the brand is a bit weird to me still.

Flying Ryanair you can safe a lot of money instead of this "Product" and have more money left for better food :)
I flew them once on a narrow body in the 2000’s when it was called German wings from cologne to Barcelona
Different airline
Loved the mystery dinner lol
Why would you buy business class on such a short flight
Indeed. This is a pure waste of money.
To review it why else?
This is why he does it, and why we watch....
Just enjoy don't second guess
Thanks!
7:22 after watching far too much of this channel, I did that as I got on my flights to/from Portugal on a recent trip (first time flying since 2018)
yes! Make it a thing!
Lots of ♥️ from 🇲🇾
Any ideas when you gonna review our AIRASIA
Mate we are flying FRA PTY in Economy next July... I'm dreading it already.. The price of their seat allocation is Y is ridiculous. Wish me luck 🙏
Do you check in or do they just put their towels out on the seats before breakfast?
Not my cup of tea. I would prefer another
airline.
Thanks Paul for posting your experience
😀💚
Wasn’t it a eurowings plane that got crashed into the mountains a few years ago?
It was Germanwings
Yeah, the fact that they don’t charge less isn’t good! If this was a genuinely cheaper product, it’d be great, but it just isn’t! At least the crew seemed nice!😸
Hi Love your content can you do the new united airlines route from Newark/New York to Tenerife?
Are Eurowings who for example fly from Birmingham to Dussledorf on an A320 different to Eurowings Discover.
yes, a different airline, but also part of the same Lufthansa Group.
@@Paul_Lucas Oh Ok
Paul,
Have you ever visited Lanzarote, this was my favorite
airport to watch with a live stream because you had a side view of the runway and could see the planes taxi to and from the hanger.
They changed the location and now it's a head-on view with foreshortening and little else to see except on occasion .
MIght be a nice place to visit.
Cheers,
Rik Spector
Not sure I see the difference between this and Lufthansa - at least this is a fully flatbed, Condor or Candor another subsidiary only offers angle flat
Condor is since a long time no longer a subsidiary of Lufthansa. Lufthansa sold Condor back in 2002 to Thomas Cook and they were a Thomas-Cook-Subsidiary until Thomas Cook filed for bankruptcy in 2019. They managed to survive this and are now an independent airline runned by a London Investment Fonds as Majority Owner.
I´m very familiar with Gran Canaria and the airport there - very nice to see them again, even if only via UA-cam.😀❤❤❤👍
And beyond that I must smile: What do you expect from Eurowings/Discover - Lufthansa on a 4-hours-trip: Lufthansa would have putted a bottle of Mineral Water in front of you and that was it...😀 They need to safe money after the Pandemic.
Great review Paul and where did you get that T-shirt from 😍👏👏
I wont mind them to long haul destinations like DomRep Punta Cana and Fort Myers FL USA (to avoid domestic).
But Gran Canaria I still have the option of others and IF I t must be EW then I will aim for their a320 flights
11:55 and Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe.
They hier Finnair 350 for Frankfurt America rout now
Is the food really that bad, or do you just have really high standards.
Discover Airlines isn’t a budget airline. Only that Lufthansa Group isn’t with lounge in Gran Canaria
I wonder what CONDOR does for European travels..??😒😒
never apologize for a healthy appetite ....❤🇬🇧❤️
That salad? looked healthier than most airplane food... that's important right? Lol
👍
They recently switched from Lufthansa to Discover Eurowings for here (Tampa) to Frankfurt. I guess I will be avoiding them
They’re currently leasing a Finnair A350 on this route. Not an LH Group plane.
You might wanna get rid of the 1970's porn music in the video.
Sounds pretty average not good mate..- Ambiance of the cabin and the food mate..
Hope you got couple of Single malt whiskies onboard in your forthcoming flights.
Cheers,
Pradeep.
Is this good flight or normal experience do you have
How old are you / what is your job? Just curious to know how you travel
I only flew on American Airlines but not on one of them so I only traveled by plane once when I was a kid
Great vlog as always! Sad to see and hear that they sucked. No bueno. Cold meal on that long of a flight. What is next? Pay to use the loo?
It's a 3,5h flight. You will survive with a salad. In most of the Airlines you won't get anything nowadays. Jesus Christ...
Thank you for sharing your trip.
It's all about the food, eh? 😂🤗
No choice with the meal is rubbish. I Haaaate budget carriers but you just can’t avoid them these days. Hate them.
Eurowings looks much much better that BA business class anyday! Considering the price you paid for the trip, you got yourself a real bargain. Trust me.
I took eurowing once only, in economy for a flight from Zurich to Hamburg. It was ok for a short 1h30 flight but for anything too long, I would not want to take them
Eurowings & EW discover are totally different Airlines. Confusing with the names, I know
What's the best website for finding the cheapest flights across all airlines?
Great video as always Paul and went through Gran Canaria airport beginning of April myself . A very long terminal but due to covid so many shops now gone. We are back out in September will be interesting to see if any others have opened. I also keep my eyes peeled in case an F18 hornet takes off as well😀
Another great review Paul!
From where are you flying?
I think maned buffets reduce waste more than consumption. Great vid as always!
Never flown Euro wings and after this I don’t think I ever will
The XV lounge was nice though
Thanks for the video!
Regarding the subtitels in the video: Remeber that "Eurowings Discover" and "Eurowings" are two different airlines! They operate independent and have nothing in common beside the little name "Eurowings" as part of their name ;-)
So: Do not mixup.
Eurowings discover had a project name being Ocean. it was more intended that eurowings discover would be a long haul leisure airline. But the brand is a bit weird to me still.
Well they could still have each one its own AOC but clearly they do have many things in common!
The blocked middle seat as a "business class" is such a hateful invention.
Not for the airline bean counters!
thankfully they don't do that on Australian domestic Airlines. proper 2+2 business class seats with service too
I thought they were fine - like any other airline, meal looked good
Thank you Paul🌞
Thanks for the review
Cabin crew pleasant
Seats terrible
Food third world
Would I fly Eurowings?
"HELL NO"
Total crap 👎
when i fly with Eurowings I make a point of wearing next to nothing then take a steaming dump on other passengers tray tables.
