Story buddy, came across your channel by chance really. Did a 10 month course on drylining/plastering/taping and jointing finding my feet now working... Have to say your videos are very informative and clear. You seem like a down to earth bloke wish you all the best, thanks for sharing your experience and craftsmanship.
Thanks for all the advice. i did scratch coat even tho it was a small area, render went well but those plastic strips are expensive my wall is 10m long! All went well, no regrets!
Hi m8 great job I've used the plastic beads for window bands on my own house as to using timber in the past to get the angles etc the beads are great bit of prep beforehand that makes such a difference I miss doing the rough casting its more plasterwork these days for me keep up the good work bud 👍
Thanks mate! That's a good shout actually mate - I bet they looked great in the end! I've had nothing but rendering requests recently...I'm usually mainly plastering but it's changed ha! Great hearing from you 👍
@@PlasteringForBeginners no probz pal keep the videos coming 👍if a can al try n send a video of ma house to show you the bands al get round to doing it cheers again 👍
Hi great video. I have to render a blocked up door so willing to give it a go. I purchased some SBR but are you saying for blocks I dont need to use it? Also with the scratch coat do I need to add in waterproofer if so how much? Thanks
Great vid Blaine. I was always warned not to use vinyl/plastic beads with S&C 😥 only S.Steel, although plastic ones are a much nicer profile and cleaner. What do you use to stick them? Cheers
Thank you! Some Plasterers are against the plastic beads but I can't figure out why?? They'll never rust, can handle the elements and are easier to use. I don't get it!! To be honest I just pin them in - I occasionally use Gripfill but I just use masonry pins.
@@PlasteringForBeginners I think its because S&C doesnt flex unlike polymer based renders, silicone renders. Sand and cement doesnt stick to the bead, and polyvinyl/plastic beads expand and contract with heat etc, but yeah it is up for debate and I for one much prefer the profile/finished edge on plastic over metal.
Hi Blaine, loving these rending vids. Ive seemed to have fallen into the habit of only doing skimming jobs, havent done rendering since college 10yrs ago! I really fancy it tho, love hard graft. When you say you gave the wall a coat of SBR, is that a watered down SBR or you putting that on neat? keep up the good work mate
Thank you mate, I really appreciate that! It's tough at first but I love rendering...when the weather is kind ha! I'll dilute it by 50% if it's new brickwork but it's brickwork that's been hacked off then I'd go neat. It just helps the reduce the suction.
Was rendering this week and doing the top coat kept getting air pockets pulled tjem back in didnt come back when was all rubbed up hopefully stays on never happend before
It's usually because the scratch coat is too wet. The water gets trapped between the 2 coats. It eventually dries out but it's a nightmare when it happens! I'm sure it will be fine my friend 👍

Excellent videos mate, just scratch coated my whole back garden using your advice, best renderer videos on youtube 100%!!
Thank you so much mate. I really appreciate that...hope you're well and good luck with the finish!
Your videos are absolutely top drawer. Have to render my pump house tomorrow so I'm cramming a few vids in tonight. Cheers for all the work 👍
Thanks mate and good luck!
Thanks for all the advice. Started rendering a new 20m X 1m retaining wall this week. Going pretty well.
Good on your my friend! Hope you're enjoying it 😉

Another top job pal wish you was my work mate 👍👍
Quick question what's the mix for the scratch coat then mix ratios for the top coat of render? Great video thanks for making it
This is brilliant. Totally lucid.
Haha fair enough!
Hi Blaine. Great video. What's the reason for not using the speed skim on the top coat? Sorry if you've already mentioned it.
It's too flexible. You need something rigid otherwise it can create waves in your render.
As normal, first class tuition, great video, I’m learning so much, thanks buddy 👌👌👌👌
Thanks mate! I really appreciate that 👍
Hi, thanks for these videos. Do you have one that shows how you mix your scratch coat?

What's the reason for not scudding before scratch coat??????
Nice job as always. Question what mix are u using?
Hi Blaine love the videos why is it sometimes you see rendering cracked on some houses

Do ever do colour coats like monocuche or thin coat? Or do you just stick to sand and cement? Tidy work 👍
I just stick to sand cement to be honest mate. That's my favourite.
Great vids mate. How come you didn’t use mesh on this job?
Thanks pal...I really appreciate that. Because it's a new build with concrete blocks. Mesh isn't necessarily need here 👍

Haha to true! Cheers pal 👍
You should create playlists
What’s the scratch coat mix and what will be your top coat mix and do you use water proofer in both scratch and mix

Just a quick question how much are you on a day at work
As if!
As much as hes worth. What value do u place on a tidy, efficient bang on job.....
I think the short answer to this is, none of your f*ckin business boyo 😂🤷🏻♂️
Tell us how much you earn 1st...
Plasterers usually charge by the square metre not by the day. I dont know how much he earns but at a guess between 2 and 3 hundred pound per day.
I have got a crack going round the side of the house. Do I need to render if I do what is the best method for rendering

Hi mate how thick do you apply both coats
Roughly 7/8mm pal. You want an overall thickness of 15mm 👍
Why not just use a pre bagged OCR?
Why can’t you use speed skim on top coat?
Hi Blaine do you not sucd the wall first
Where ca. I se d pics to you so you can tell me what in to do
What is the sand cement Ratio pl.?
4 plastering sand to 1 cement pal 👍
👍
Hi Blaine what mil are your beads mate thaanks
I think he said 15mil
Yeah, they are 15mm pal 👍
@@PlasteringForBeginners cheers mate
No mesh?
Another tip which I found out the hard way. Don't scratch too deep... big no no
That's the one pal!!
