"The Art of Dying" from Gojira's "The Way of All Flesh" album (2008).
This song might actually be even more draining than Backbone. Okay I'm sure it is actually. The outro is when you FINALLY get your break from the constant strumming. Anyway, I changed quite a bit of things when you compare it to the one tab you can find online. Then there's another tab online out there that was tabbed on a 5 string bass. The songsterr tab also had this weird F# string with a bunch of harmonics. But eh, I really didn't hear any of that in the song.
Some important information that nobody is going to read.
Tuning : C-G-C-F
Artist : Gojira
Bassist : Jena-Michel Labadie
Album : The Way of All Flesh (2008)
Song : THE ART OF DYING
Bass : Warwick GPS Corvette 5A Ash
ah yes, the monthly arm workout song
Haha thought so too
God that bass tone is disgustingly crunchy, I love it! Great work as always man! The time signature of that intro is really something else.
Thanks man! Glad you like the tone. I'm so proud of it haha
45/4 was it ?
Because the rhythm pattern takes 45 repeats to land back on the one when the 4/4 backbeat came in ?
@@darkySp yeah it’s 45 16th notes repeated over a quarter note pulse, so essentially it’s a 45:4 polymeter.
@@LeoBassCovers2 How did you get it tho?
@@october1820 Mainly the Parallax plug-in :)
How can something look so easy yet so fucking hard to play?
It’s mostly just open notes, nothing to it😂
in the documentary for this album you can hear the bass actually follows along with the drum pattern which is insane. too bad you can't hear it on the album that well :(
The only song where I wouldn’t call a bunch of open notes lazy songwriting
Haha, the timing of the intro always messed with me, it's cool to see it in tab.
One of my favorites from Gojira!! Thank you for the tab!
My pleasure!
My wrist hurts from looking at this. 😳
Wow. Your tone is killer. Sounds amazing!
Thank you!
Right hand finally understanding what the left has has been complaining about through all those hard covers.
I WANT PRIIIIIINGLEEEEEEES
Instructions unclear; broke my arm.
Good. Very good
hey dude I really like your videos our music taste so similar it really helps me. Keep up the work!
Glad to hear! Thank you :)
Great performance, well done! Tremendous job!
Thanks as always man!
I didn't think the bass was just straight trem picking through the intro.
Nice
Absolutely killed it! Any chance of an Esoteric Surgery cover in the future?
Well done! I gotta know - how did you achieve such crunch?
Parallax plug-in!
yes gojira good gorzilagodizola gozila thank you leo tgkdzikanzilla
Leo have a machine gun in his hand
Never skip arm day
Can you do sime avenged sevenfold covers? I would really like to lern songs like "a little piece of heaven" and some other by this awsome band!
Which one was the most tiresome: this one, Triad or Backbone?
Update: just played this song and it gave me a new pain. It's not the usual radiating through my arm shit, but it's concentrated and a bit sharper than usual.
I have concluded that this is the most painful one
This one. But Triad will really cut your fingertips in half
A sight to behold maybe?
awesome as always! can you tell me which strings you are using and what the bass needed setup-wise for this tuning? Got a Thumb tuned to A-C-G-C-F but the low C is always kinda flappy, even with DR strings and good setup.
Thank you! I wish I could give you a proper answer, but I actually just put a capo on this bass which was tuned to standard tuning (with a drop A for the 5th string). I don't know anything about adjusting your bass to tunings that low so that's my go-to solution. I use 45-125 strings and I don't think that they would sound go when you drop down to a low C
Wicked...I just watched bc I've watched your Tool vids (all great, and ty), and the algorithm brought it to me. Great job on this jam, although, to each their own, this is not my favorite song; saying that part kindly.
Thank you! To each their own indeed. I also don't listen to Gojira. Fun to play, but it's a bit too heavy for me
The secret. adamantium pick.
isnt the bass at the start supposed to be in unison with the kick pattern on the drums? just wondering..
The kick drum and the bass are pretty much in the same frequency range which is why it sounds like that. But you can actually hear the bass playing a lot of notes and in any live video you'll see him play the same what I did :)
that chug at the end is fucking SO SEXY.
What pick are you using??????
A Petrucci Jazz III
Thanks for replying and great cover! Definitely going to learn this!
Good luck!
@@LeoBassCovers2 wow that’s a small pick for playing bass
I know I'm gonna get flack for this but gojiras earlier albums had so much cooler riffs. The first, second and third album had incredible riffs! These are ok but nothing compared to terra or from mars ti sirius. Still fantastic cover, tone and playing, much love❤
Thank you! I don't listen to Gojira enough to really know which album has the best basslines. I think i've mostly covered the newer albums except for a couple of Mars to Sirius songs. I recently transcribed From the Sky which was fun though
@@LeoBassCovers2 mars to sirius counts to their earlier albums and you are right from the sky is very fun😁
What bands are you listening to i'm looking for inspiration rn😁🙏
Might sound weird but I barely listen to music actually. I'm hearing so many noises already when I record/transcribe that I prefer some peace and quiet over music
:))))))))
Would love to learn how Adoration For None is played Leo! All the tabs I read I know are for sure not how the songs goes and feels not right to play. Loved the vid, played along straight away
I'll see what I can do :)
It’s also so deceptive when you predominantly hear the guitar riff and the bass is buried and playing a different riff. On this song I always want to play the guitar riff on the last half, and what a riff it is! On Global Warming he’s playing all these whole notes and it seems a bit……..odd. Compared to the guitar riff. Thins the song , obviously. Bass bias much? Yes I do. But I’m also the guy that calls Prince a bass thief. Cause he always takes away all the rad bass licks for the guitar or keys and leaves the actual bass player with criminally simple and boring parts. 1999 for example. Ugggh. One of my favorite songs, one of my least favorite to play on bass. Why bother? It only gets in the way of doing the splits and one heels spin with my bass strap getting under my ass so when I stand back up I rip the strap out of the hole on the tail. Five times! Oh Prince, such outrageous talent. Can we get some of the bass parts back, please ? When doves cry, really? What is a bass? We have these things called K-E-Y-B-O-A-R-D-S. Cheaters. And “Kiss”. Ugh. Raspberry Beret is still fun though but I’d rather play the violin parts than the cello parts. What great songs. Then he grabs the bass and shreds like every other bass player on the planet doesn’t exist. Nice work, oh Purple One. Sorry you had to die too soon.
