NORTHERN ONTARIO TRAVELS: 1972 Eldorado on the Trans-Canada Adventure Trail

  • There's a magic to northern Ontario that keeps me coming back. This time I wanted to ride a short section of the Trans-Canada Adventure Trail between Capreol and Shining Tree. And the bike? My mostly trustworthy 1972 Moto Guzzi Eldorado. How would the old girl fare on more narrow gravel roads with potholes and embedded rocks? She may not be an adventure bike, but riding her anywhere is always an adventure.

    Ah, the adventures of youth. Thank you for suffering for me. I most happily would trade my horrific traffic with it's aggressive tailgaters for your beautiful water and trees and hail. Happiness to you Nick from this 82 year old biker in Richmond, Virginia, USA.

    Hi Nick I do the same you do, ride a 2007 Moto Guzzi Breva 750 on paved roads but when I ride on damaged paved roads (of which we have plenty) I do it on my DR650 which also use on unpaved roads, while you have to deal with very cold days at this time of the year, I deal with 40 + Celsius in the summer, greetings from an 81 yrs old lonely riderj at the Yucatan Peninsula.

    Ciao Nick sempre in viaggio con la tua fedele Eldorado che non ti tradisce mai, ma tu la coccoli bene curando la sua manutenzione, bravo sei un grande uomo. La tua età biologica è ben diversa da quella anagrafica, sembri un trentenne che si diverte un mondo, forse lo devi alla passione della moto che ha un grande potere, quello di amplificare l'emozioni e di mantenerti sempre giovane. Vorrei fare anche un plauso al grande e splendido stato del Canada, con i suoi magnifici territori ancora incontaminati. Buon viaggio caro amico e grazie di cuore per i tuoi bellissimi filmati ciao.

    I’m curious about the right side engine shot at 23:54, Nick. There is a loop of rubber hose coming out of the crankcase then right back in. This feature is absent on my Ambo, so I wondered about it. Perhaps it’s a disused oil cooler take-off?

    • @nick949eldo
      @nick949eldo  2 дні тому +5

      Hi Phil. There used to be an add-on oil filter there. The bracket failed so I removed it and got my local hydraulic supply shop to make me some lines. I didn't want to fool around inside the sump where the previous owner had done some re-routing. It's been fine for almost 100,000 miles like that so I won't be changing it.😁

    I’m 68 with congestive heart failure. When I’m considering routes, the criteria that puts some limits my desire for adventure is simply that I don’t want to end up in one of those stories in a small local news paper. You know, the story about the tourist that all the locals dismiss with the quip, “what an idiot”. The fear of being the subject of one of those stories seems to help limit my stupidity :)
