I like a couple more gain stages and a fuzz on my board, because my amp is set 100% clean and I like to be able to have clean boost, edge of break up, med gain and fuzz all at my feet. Then I can stack gain stages for higher gain sounds. An envelope filter is nice to have for funk too. I probably have close to 10 pedals on my board, but 80% of the night I'm just playing clean amp and some reverb for the old school R&B.

Phaser is also very common for funk
