My Mother is a Social Worker, I always see her stressed and tired when she comes home. After watching this video this makes me understand more what my mother does when she is out of the house and I'm proud to say my mother is a HERO
Update March 1, 2024. I'm Currently Studying Social Work in a University. It's the best thing I did!
If she was Muslim like my mom she can't feel that stress bcs she's waiting reward from Allah so she is happy all the time
She maybe forgot to let you know how rewarding her job was and that the stress and fatigue was after a day well spent helping people.
That is fantastic! Your mother must be very proud.
Becoming a social worker was the best decision I’ve ever made. This is my 13th year as a high school social worker.
@@moal6803 Look for a university with a social work program. If you get an undergraduate degree in social work, you can usually earn hour graduate degree (MSW) in one year. It’s a great deal! Good luck!
@@moal6803 My life was ruined by some intern with 2 years of "Social Justice". Oh the REAL Child Protection threw her bs out. But she has impunity and I am ruined. Two degrees from MIT and a Master's in STEM ruined by some hack with not a degree. When I phoned "Wayside Family" of Framingham MA they call the police on me! The inspector had sense and said I did nothing wrong. Yet no way to help me.
how did you get into school social work? i really want to become a school social worker as well.
@@ZZ-uo7ht Hey there! look at different schools that have a social work program, some even have specific classes to become a school social worker certificate where you take a couple education classes as well. Normally in undergrad, you take 2 years of classes and some social work classes as well then as a junior, you apply to the program and take most social work classes for junior and senior year. Senior year you will have a year-long internship in the population you want, in your case school social work. If you get your master's after that it will only be a year since you already have the foundation from undergrad. If you just want a master's program, It will be two years and you will have an internship as well.
@@moal6803 Look into Victim Advocacy agencies. Most work with different degrees as well as social work.

Good for you. Social work has many aspects. If you are doing what you are trained to do wonderful. However in some states people rename therapy as "Coaching" and do immense damage. My experience with government Social Workers was good. The one really bad one was working for a private place. I have to add that Social workers have a lot of power. Immunity makes it unchecked, Power must never go without responsibility.

1st year in university to become a social worker and my lecturer showed my class this and omg this made me realise on how amazing social workers are, the impact they have on people and their lives and how this could be my future. I just hope I can live up to my dreams of being a social worker that can help and impact people.
You can do it! Keep that super hero power alive?! Many are waiting and have already been led to you! You got it!
I’ve never been more proud to be a Social Worker ❤️
As a social worker, I am really impressed and mesmerized by her speech. Every one of us has a superhero inside us, We can't help everyone but everyone can help someone. We have our own struggles and obstacles even then who solve other's problems are the real social heroes.
Many people and even my friends sometimes make fun of me studying social work in uni. I think they just don't know about social work well. Actually the society lack a comprehensive understanding about social work.
my friends dont ynderstand my profession either! but we know why we chose social work! i wish you best of luck!

Hu Maggie It is a field with low barriers to entry. Also, your typically not as well compensated as individuals whom have put in equal amounts of education. If you want the field as a profession, then pursue it.
Not all social workers work in Child Protective Services. And you can easily be compensated well if you go through the Masters program so she’s really not throwing her life away. Coming from a fellow social work major, keep going!!
@@kiara-6816 No and they are worse. The private ones are much worse than CPS. And why immunity! So they commit crime and get away with it. One day immunity will be gone reteroactively. Then you'll see the criminal charges coming like a flood.

@Laz Arus great profession mate, in Australia its a really good profession where you work in hospitals, schools, and even have your own private practice. Its takes 6 years man of education to become a therapist in social work. Its the oldest therpeautic practice.
I'm a social worker in my country, Brazil. This video is true, we are super heros!😍
I really enjoyed this. So many people automatically think child protective services. But that is not the only job social workers can do. I don't agree with some of the shady practices that can be found in some aspects of social work but their is bad in ALL fields. Their is really something special about a person who can juggle her personal problems along with other people's personal problems. Most social workers are just trying to do the best they can. People should be thankful because it's not like anybody else really cares about them or their issues like most social workers do or they would not need a social worker in the first place.
God sent his only son to be "The savior of the world n also to serve humanity by taking away sins n lessening the burden of earth life..." May God bless all the social workers n people who serve the orphan, downtrodden, sick, destitutes, afflicted n the needy.... Amen!!
I am a student social worker and I agree social workers do a lot to help people in difficult circumstances. Social work in general has been given a stereotype that all we do is take children away from family's this is so far from the truth. The definition of social work is work carried out by trained personnel with the aim of alleviating the conditions of those people in a community suffering from social deprivation. There are so many departments in Social work and in each one they make there own change.
Dylan Duff i stady social work too
I'm a psychiatric social worker from India
Whether we agree with her views or not, there's something special about taking care and working for the well-being of populations that aren't always visible.
I would rather be placed in a den of rattlesnakes, than have the care of a social worker, thank you very much. My well being is my own responsibility and even should it not become so, the last thing I would ever want is a social worker anywhere near me, they are toxic. -
I'm sorry you have such a negative view of social workers. May your future experiences with social workers be more pleasant :)

Becoming a social worker was the worst decision of my life. It is definitely not for everyone. And many social workers go into the field because they are codependent... thinking their self worth and identity are about helping others. But if others decide that they don't need your help.... (working with mandated clients like mine) your identity gets free to realize that your self worth is not defined by your ability to help others or in others needing you. And you become sort of this free agent. Anyway I am leaving the field of social work as soon as I can after making this realization after 8 years in the field.
Thanks for your honesty. It is not for everyone, just like every profession cannot suit everyone❤
Thanks for your honesty! I agree with you to a certain extent. Yes, when it comes to self identity, it is IS NOT Defined by helping people, BUT KNOWING your self identity and self worth is what makes you a HERO Social Worker. Knowing and thinking are two different things. Some who have visited the field of social work prematurely have had to revisit at a later time & some simply come to the knowledge that it is just not for them. Everyone has a “task”, “purpose “ and sometimes it takes a while to figure out what that is like the situation you faced and realizing social work was not where your heart and destiny lie but we figure it out! I knew but didn’t know that this is my destined field and am so thankful I am on that path now to social work and advocacy! Blessings to you and your destiny. 😊

This is really great to see and hear. I have been a Social Worker for 21 years. In different guises ie front line working to Senior Management. I can safely say that I love my job. No one day is ever the same. When I became a Social Worker in The UK all those years ago, not many people were interested in doing it as a course. Roll forward 21 years and it is pretty much an oversubscribed course. Social Work challenges the way you think as you work with with individuals, whereby one glove does not fit all. Interventions with clients will always be unique and only applicable to that person, which is the beauty of the job. Enabling and supporting people which benefits them.
I am proud to be a Social Worker.

I am studying a diploma in community services and I just finished my first term. This short time learning I have come to realise that this is my calling and that everyone should be learning what Im starting to learn. We need to overhaul the education system and implement these subjects within the curriculum.
I love being a social worker. I completed in 2013; I was 42, married 2 children under the age of 10; worked full time in a hospital as a alcoholism counselor; and went to school full-time at night. And, yes, plus my 14hr field placement. Anyway the last nine years I did a few different thing in crim-justice/crim-legal fields; program evaluation and quality assurance for a reentry program; victimology research and prison reform at a non-profit, the diversion program for young adults.
Now I run my own advocacy and counseling agency. The thing about working for yourself its risky and rewarding too.
Everyone has a talent, not a superpower, superheroes don't die, get burnt out, or get tired. Social workers do

In my opinion I think that people who work as social workers have a more difficult job since people think that it is not very difficult to work the way they work when it is the opposite since they have to take care of things more technical and much more complicated
I agree with you, because I think is more difficult dealing with people than with machines, that's why we must respect social workers.

@@rodriguez7198 6 semester.
keep it up!! you're doing great. God bless you with peace and joy
Me too I really appreciate social work .Because I love to serve the needy people.
Really, I suppose you see "serving" needy people means that you leave a trail of emotional destruction behind you. I guess tearing apart lives must have some entertainment value? Can't see what it could be, but maybe, like those who managed to drive a young mother to her death, (Hayley Gascgoine), through the amount of distress and abuse that people like you, (social workers) heaped on her, the more emotional destruction you can inflict the happier you are.
Sliepnir2006 Removing children from dangerous situations is not tearing art lives. If it is a small issue social workers will bring in the parent and help the kids fix it, or if the guardians have toxic actions they'll try to fix it before removing the child. if you think the child needs to stay with abusive parents to avoid the PARENTS getting hurt then you need to fix your priorities
In the UK children and babies are being removed at an alarming rate for "Risk of future emotional harm" the police and social services are causing actual emotional harm to all parties involved at the point of removal. These children are then being adopted without parental consent through reports, which parents are not entitled to bring real evidence to prove otherwise. They are offered solicitors who work for the local authorities and to win a case would lose then lucrative work. Even in cases where the wrongful removal can be proved, it is rarely produced bu legal representatives. All go along with social worker reports, made on silent videos after contact, where anything can be assumed. even specialist reports are largely based on what goes in social worker reports. In reports to the court hours of positive contact is ignored for one or two moments of negativity.
have fun throwing your life away......

Great job bringing home the point that everyone needs (or will need) a social worker
+Joseph Izaguirre - I would love to hear your thoughts on why you think "everyone needs or will need a social worker" Can you elaborate? It would be refreshing to read your views on what you just declared! Thanks!
+CESSqc I think it's about balance. I agree that social workers (to some extent) lean so much to one socio/political/economic end that is counter to capitalism. I think reading Ayn Rand would be helpful in our curriculums to show the ills of the extremes of socialism. I also see the ills of 10% owning 90% and watching very basic needs not met, which then adversely impacts our capitalistic system. Yes, there are ills on both sides and it is way to easy to render an obtuse statement simplifying the issues.
+CESSqc I failed to answer your question. I offer that life brings different challenges to people along their stages of life. For example, troubles with child development, to how to help elders during their final years. Advocating for one who can't, to advocating macro policies. helping individuals navigate systems to helping communities to develop norms that encompass both empathy, responsibility, and accountability. Doing the "little helper things" that most are unwilling to do but that do serve a purpose... if not at least allow other the time to exercise the freedoms to make more money, spend time with family, or achieve their desires within their means.
Oh no thank you, in fact after what I have witnessed, if any social worker were to come near me, when I am older, the first will wish they were dead, the second will end up wanting to take up their own lives, the third will take their life. After what I have been witness to, I do not want these horrible people anywhere near me. One would be safer in a den of rattlesnakes and it would be more preferable. Yuch. -
May I ask what you have been witness to that makes you feel so strongly against social workers? I assume you'd be willing to share because you're so open to bashing the profession that it's only warranted that you share why. I'd personally like to understand

Superb.
When I worked as a social worker, a client's family member once came up to me, and asked me a really important question. She asked me, so who looks after the caretaker? The answer is whatever helping professional role you have chosen to be, ultimately the fact is, you need to look after yourself. If you follow that advise, you will more likely stay sane, and productive, while helping those who need your assistance.
Hooray for Social Work and all of us Social Workers! Thanks for posting Lauren Kelly Stanley!
Sweet! We don't need anotha
We don't need another what?
@ Carole Winston ..Hooray for a collective delusional mindset from a failed industry on its last hooray, who actually think you are a positive influence on society!
...Hooray for all the campaigns exposing corruption and crime throughout CPS and social work. ...Hooray for new terminologies like 'psychopsema' created to expose a failed social work system and define how the constant abusive practices against defenseless families are carried out.
+CESSqc There are plenty of hard working individuals whose sole goal in life is to help individuals. Do NOT lump everything, every job, and every one all together because it suits you.
It suits each and every 'social services crimes researcher' just fine, to report and to continue to publish reporting the 'unprecedented' number and type of crime, corruption and abusive practices the social workers industry perpetually practices against individuals and the family unit. Social worker policy and theory of practices are all based on an ideology of eugenics, this is a destructive ideology which a majority of SW's throughout North America are not even aware they are subjected to follow.

Hi I'm was born early and I'm disabled with a lot of cronic illness health. I've had a social worker sense I was a baby.
I think what he’s trying to say is that due to the stigma that people who are poor suffer feel they don’t have opportunities. So the only person who can help it to the end is a social worker.
A social worker can’t change a person but can leave a thought in your mind about what your potential would be and thus open your mind to new possibilities.
