- An interview with legendary songwriter, musician, film composer and Grammy Award winner Trevor Rabin hosted by MOTU's Matt LaPoint on February 25, 2022.
Trevor Rabin is a South African musician, composer, and producer. He is best known for his work as a singer, songwriter, producer and guitarist with the progressive rock band Yes, and for his successful career as an film composer. He joined Yes in 1982, and his contributions drove commercial success for several albums, including "90125", "Big Generator”, "Union" and "Talk". 90125 sold three million copies in the US alone, driven by its lead single "Owner of a Lonely Heart", one of Rabin's songs, which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. As an elite Hollywood film composer, Trevor's scoring credits for dozens of blockbuster films include "Armageddon", "Con Air", "Remember the Titans”, and the “National Treasure” franchise. Trevor's many collaborations include the biggest artists in the film and music business, including a lengthy partnership with Jerry Bruckheimer. Trevor has also recorded many solo albums, including his upcoming "Rio" project, which he briefly discusses during this webinar.

TREVOR RABIN is one of THE MOST UNDERRATED guitar players, and songwriters on earth. Friggin GENIUS.
Can't Look Away is one of my favorite albums. Brings back a lot of memories.
The rest of the album didn't move me but the title track absolutely slapped.
A masterpiece!
@@ThisMichaelBrown One of my favorite songs on the album is The Cape. Wish it was a bit longer.
@@beachhunting69 Great continuity....I listen to the whole album the old fashioned way...so good, a classic 😎 (btw....Im a 56 year old song writer....I think im 3 decades too late to the game...so hard to get new music heard these days....but it is a passion ) "Sing for the same reason the bird sings" Zen proverb 🖖Cant wait to hear Trevor's new one in its entirety.
I think it’s a great album - every song. Especially considering Rabin played every instrument.
His personal “stamp” on the Yes material was what Yes needed to catapult back into limelight for 90125
I love what Trevor said about Chris's singing voice here.
One of the greatest musicians of our time!
SUPERB interview 💯
100%
I would love to see a movie on Trevor's life. (Something like Freddy). Life has moved on so quickly that it would be great to see move of Trevor (Our South African hero/ Rabbit). Thanks Trevor for sharing your story. Regards 🇿🇦.
Talk is an amazingly produced album. The best Yes ever did. To me Yes will always involve Trevor Rabin.
I agree!
Great interview and great interviewer!
Trevor developed and evolved Yes’ music to it’s greatest potential.
Amazing musician and writer, and in my top 5 favorite guitarists of all time...along with Alex Lifeson....Thanks again for the interview! "Can't Look Away" album is a masterpiece and I greatly look forward to the new album 👍
"Don't sign with anybody until the albums done" great advice. Thanks for this, love Trevor, so glad he's still doing what he loves! I hope I get to see him live again, so cool!
I had one of Trevors guitars from his Rabbitt days in SA. It was a 62 ES 335 which had a broken headstock. I repaired it and it was on its way back to its owner.
Love Steve Howe but Trevor added an awesome guitar sound to Yes.
I've been a Yes fan for a long time,, saw them 30 plus times. I do not play any instruments but it was so cool to listen to Trevor talk about arrangements ,the process of creating music. I remember so many concerts seeing Chris playing which was so magical and Mr White on the drums, both are missed . Best of health and continue creating great music Trevor you are one of the best and you gave so much to Yes when it needed a boost. To the host of this video, great job and thanks for posting, very enjoyably
Love will find a way is probably the best track ever in my opinion... great presentation, thank you
Saw Trevor and Yes at the Forum LA and Greek amphitheater LA 1990+- like Trevor our family From south Africa now USA LA. That show at the Greek gold circle 3rd row in the middle with my son Glenn and daughter Carrie I will never forget. Did the amphitheater Rock YES 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🗽
Recently enjoyed 2014 clip of YES, outstanding to see and hear Trevor and the remaining Yes guys “owner of a lonely heart” was magic. Thanks and ❤ to all.
Really cool interview with Trevor. As well as its sentimental value, I think what ranks his Stratocaster above all other guitars is that when you train and play so much on one instrument and work with it to solve issues it becomes a part of your playing style in many ways. Also, the middle pickup is a Bill Lawrence L-250, which doesn’t just sound like a hybrid of a single coil & humbucker, but sounds better than both put together. When it’s blended via a 5-way switch it adds very smooth high-end to those Seymour Duncans. The quality of the three of those pickups together is astonishing, and the range of ‘voices’ you get from various blends of them at different volumes and tones is limitless, and unlike a lot of standard pickups these particular pickups maintain their characteristics through whatever effects you’re using. For example, on “Hold On,” the distinct sound of Trevor’s lead at the intro is coming from that red Seymour Duncan hot stack at the neck. A couple of effects like a little bit of flanger or overdrive is all you need to enhance it, but even without effects the sound of that part is all there. All the rest of it of course is coming from Trevor.
What a gift Trevor is to music (and life). He should be the most celebrated musician of our times. Is there anything at all the man doesn't absolutely excel at? He has the guitar chops of Steve Morse, Eddie Van Halen, Jeff Beck, Chet Atkins, Brent Mason, etc all wrapped into his own style. He's as good a keyboardist as any that has been in Yes (and that is saying a lot). He has the pop songwriting chops of Paul McCartney, Paul Simon, Phil Collins, Sting, etc. He has the style and swagger of Michael Hutchence. He has the voice of the likes of Steve Perry, Lou Gramm, Sammy Hagar, Mickey Thomas, etc. He has the composer shops of Leonard Bernstein, Danny Elfman, Hans Zimmer, John Williams, etc. He has the Producer chops of people like Steven Wilson, Trevor Horn, Mutt Lange, etc. Plus, he seems to be an amazing family man and father. His son Ryan is a force himself. I mean...WHY?!?!? is he not the most celebrated man in music?? I'll tell you why. He is a humble, kind, empathetic, honest and good man. That right there is the mic drop.
It's great to see more webinar videos being posted! I'm sure many DP users will be happy to see them for the first time.

Great stuff! There is just not enough Trevor stuff out there.
It's always delightful to hear and see Mr. Rabin. Thanks for uploading this amazing interview.

Love you Trevor
Thank you for helping MoTU
Thank you for being a mastery agent teacher and warrior
Some musicians made the world a better place and you are here and as an example of healthy time
Yes the intro takes me to a distant place❤
I saw these guys in Dallas at city limits in 1989. Great show.
One of the very best
Spuriously, I mix that way as well....enjoyed the interview! Thanks 😎👍 Kind of like working on a painting over time...
Great interview with a truly great talent (and nice guy). Can’t wait for the new album!
I'm glad Saving my heart was put on the Union album, it's my favourite track 😊
always great music thank you for all the great music ... and the all time spent ....creating it
Un monstruo, un genio, grande entre los grandes! Te amo Trevor!!!
Goodness. Still a great looking guy after the Gray.
He looks like my dad when he was in his 60's. Uncanny.
Phenomenal musician.
Wait… did he say that Talk was recorded on only 16 tracks???
genius
All the history I know of YES, never knew Chris wanted that line up.
I thought it was Alan, Chris, Trevor, then tony.....after became Yes with Jon.
That would have been a weird looking stage with The Trevor's singing.
Chris stated that the rehearsals were not as good as expected, but everyone at the cinema project had.enough chemistry
Actually Trevor had an offer to play with Jack Bruce, and also had an audition with.....ASIA!!! On those days
(Look.for "starry eyes" later the "only Time Will tell" track)

This confirms Trevor Horns claim of being the singer with Yes is untrue.
“Who’s the Rush guitarist? Not Geddy? Erm? Eh?”
Robin Tranor
sounds like your guiitar is suffering yes was your best
Trevor makes us proud of his Genius here in South Africa !!!
Nice to hear he still has his South African accent and didn't start faking a crappy American accent
Yes, I agree, love the accent
What is wrong with him. All he does is blink and sniff? How wierd.
