I'm still shocked that they made this so juniorized and not a MBS set lego just never fails to amaze me with their decision making. This really does feel like a slightly improved 4+ set. Probably gonna have to pass after seeing the detailed review.
yeah it should have been MBS with maybe a full scaled Y wing or at least a full temple with a large amount of sapce. even the artbook version was more spacious..
Makes no sense, since the target audience for a Episode 3 set would surly be adults at this point in time... I mean, my kids loved Episode 3, but not anywhere near as much as later stuff like Clone Wars and Rebels. Plus then they price it at $170... I suspect we'll see these sitting on shelves for a long time being heavily discounted.
This really feels like a $70 set. And even that feels generous. They could've marketed it as a juniors set and nobody would batted an eye. Easy pass for me
Thanks for the review David. Personally I think this is such a missed opportunity. The modular design could have been the best selling point. Design the set so it is just a base that can be expanded with more than one set with no ships. Make the hanger entrance work with the current X-wing and release a new stand alone Y-wing. Then advertise as combo packs base and 1 of the ships which would in tern encourage multiple purchases. Imagine if it had been designed to connect as high as 4-6 if you wanted.
Like the Hogwarts sets, imagine if we get a X-wing with a hangar section , then a Y-wing with one of the temple's walls and armory onr something like that, B-wing and A-wing and so forth until you build up a biger temple. Thats multiple sales ensured for many many fans.
Great review! I agree it could have been bigger. Perhaps we could get lucky enough to get a Master Builder Series version of it, the size of Mos Eisley Cantina. A lot more can be done. For children, too, a "base" is always incredibly successful. The playable death star interior you pulled up was my favourite set as a kid, because having many rooms in a playset base is just golden.
The never released version of this set from many years ago is way better in my opinion. It has a better use of space and has a bigger ceremony space to pose all of the guards as well. They really should have modeled this set on that one.
The blue 'liquid' in the cylinder is coaxium. Coaxium is hypermatter that is essential for faster-than-light travel (SW universe gobbledygook). And that water-cooler is suppose to be the blue milk Luke seems to love so much.
They could have honestly left out the Y-Wing, make the Base bigger with those pieces so it could fit the X-Wing or a Y-Wing to come, who knows. Still like a solid 7,5/10 for me, and maybe even higher for kids like my little brothers. I'd imagine they'd have a blast.
So for Harry Potter they’ll do modular sets to build up the school but for Star Wars here’s a mid tier play set. I figured this would’ve been better suited as a UCS set or MBS set, like the Mos Eisley Cantina. Personally I’m bummed we have 1 Rebel Fleet trooper and 0 Rebel Honor Guards that we see in the ceremony scene in ANH.
Lego honestly should have just redesigned the original Lego Yavin IV base and bring that back I woulda have bought it simply because of the sheer amount it would have had.
A good playset for kids. 10 year old men would love it! Nice to see all the Y-Wings (my favourite ship BTW) but NONE of them ever have gotten the canopy right. It opens to the right. Lego are you listening?
Hey if y'all don't like the Y-Wing, I'll take it. I love it whenever ships are small scale while still representing what they're supposed to be (microfighters don't count)
8:35 you mention the “shield piece area,” which is supposed to be a radar/sensor array. I think this is shown in the Star Wars Complete Location book, which is probably where they got it from.
I for one don’t get why they used the Solo movie head for Han, the one that was included in the Falcon microfighter set worked better, but I do like the smile on the Han head in this set
7:42 It's probably an Easter Egg relating to blue milk. I feel like Lego isn't putting much effort into their SW line, this had a lot of potential to turn out with similar amounts of detail and techniques to the Rivendale set but it just ended up looking like an expensive 4+ set, I understand it needs to be a play set but I would really like if they made a masterbuilders line for Star Wars so they can really nail locations similar to Yavin 4.
Im in love with this set $170 is a little steep but with the employee discount through where I work it will only be about 120-130, so Im happy happy happy!
I’m pretty sure that the canister in the bottom cabinet is supposed to be coaxium or hyperdrive fuel I’m pretty sure it’s how coaxium was represented in the solo movie lego sets
I would have loved if we got this set without the Y-Wing, use those pieces to make the base bigger, then have a $50 Y-Wing set in the scale of the new X-Wing play set and tie fighters. Those rooms inside are super empty too, I wish there was some more in there
This set def feels 6+ I think 4+ is a little harsh , But the set is def not worth the pricing, The minifig selection is nice but everything else seems a little lackluster.
Dude…. No freaking way!!! I was JUST thinking about my celebration Luke and Han minifigs last night and how I wished the medallions were separate neck pieces you could remove because I especially love Luke’s outfit in that scene, but I thought “nah, that probably won’t be a thing” but holy crap, I might actually have to get this set now, or at the very least this Luke.
Not a troll comment. But the 4+ A Wing that retired not too long ago goes GREAT with this set and any kid would love that set with Yavin as a gift. The A Wing looks great, scales very well with the Y Wing in this set, it comes with a green rebel pilot to round out the different types of rebels for the Yavin base, and the A Wing set even comes with a Yavin side build. And with a Y-Wing and A-Wing you have a proper fleet. The A Wing is retired, but luckily it’s not that expensive right now. But I would buy now while it’s cheap.
I really like this set, clearly the minifigures are a stand out but I really love the small Y-Wing build much more than I thought I would. Great review David! 👍👍
Honestly, the scale of the y-wing and the more bricky look makes it look like a slightly updated 2000's design. I like that myself, as I feel Lego sets can get too intricate.
So this set really has a lot of room for Improvement Maybe they could have lowered the price to 120-140 bucks If they were to keep it the same price, then It could have a full-Sized Y wing or maybe just add a floor to the temple
Since its so Modular, they could make out of it a Serie like with Hogwarts where they expend the yavin base with more Moduls and also Star Fighters what would be amazing.
At roughly 6:42 onwards you mentioned the bottle. I think the bottle is coaxium as it is the same build as the coaxium from the solo millennium falcon and would fit with the rebels need for the hyperdrive fuel
Play sets for over $200 are a bad move for Lego. Parents aren’t buying it and collectors on a budget are only spending more than $200 for a collector series set to display. Surely Lego understands the buyers in this regard
Im sorry, but a few more minifigures and inflation doesnt justify an additional $40. Moreover, $60 for this set would be a great price-performance ratio but I know that Lego is lightyears away from this.
I was excited for the first Lego Yavin but then they showed us this... No, I'm not buying that. Maybe if they priced it at $110 I would consider getting it somewhere for 100 dollars but I would still be very disappointed with this level of detail. This should have been a detailed 2300+ piece, $230, 16 minifigure set. That would be perfect.
I really feel like $150 is a pretty hard ceiling for a playset. In recent memory the justifier is the only other playset that went over this. I picked one up but not until it was on clearance for 119.
As somebody who especially likes the Y-Wing, holy crap, it’s wierd how the Y-Wing can’t decide whether or not it’s a microfighter, and it takes the Gold Leader from the UCS equivalent(except for the head). The details it has in the base is somewhat good though.
Just by looking at things, I think what I would rather have on my wishlist is a small X-Wing to be added to the set so that Garven Dreis has something to fly. Yes, more space for things, more minifigures, those would all be nice, but for the price of $170, I think a 100-200 or so piece small X-Wing would be sufficient for more play opportunities than a bunch of wasted space for admittedly empty rooms. There's a reason why the Rebel Base is so dark and cast in shadow in the movie, they just didn't have the budget to light a full hanger and do things in it, so aside from the briefing room, that's kind of the most you'll ever see of this place. Some visual trickery was used to make the Throne Room Ceremony, and hey, you have to include it, but with what is supplied, I'd say it's sufficient, albeit a bit cramped. No, what you really want is another starfighter because this base is primarily a hanger for all these ships, and while cool to include Garven Dreis, if you don't happen to have an X-Wing for him to fly, it's kind of moot including him if you ask me, even if he must be accompanied by R2-D2 as his astromech if they couldn't include R5-K6 as his droid.
This set is very bare bones. The minifigs are cool but the set feels very underwhelming. It’s definitely the kind of set you just throw in a bin and store in your basement to never look at again.

I really like it - I think it's a great set. The struts on the engines could have been longer, but otherwise it's all good. Except for the price - it's cheaper than the Cad Bane ship (the Justifier I think) in Australia by $10, so given that it has more figures I guess that there is at least one set that it is better value than.
I just can’t get over that it reminds me of a juniors set. It just has a very simple, thin, basic look
This set is 💯% the price it is becuase of Mini Figs.
I thought it was a juniors set until I stopped and really looked at it at Target recently lol
Imagine this as a UCS set.. what a missed opportunity
Give it a year or 2…. If that set sells….there will be one, like with the razor crest
4+ UCS set
I certainly prefer the affordability. Shame about mini scale vehicles wasting space that could be used for more building.
Not everything has to be UCS
The second "assault on hoth" nightmare
I'm still shocked that they made this so juniorized and not a MBS set lego just never fails to amaze me with their decision making. This really does feel like a slightly improved 4+ set. Probably gonna have to pass after seeing the detailed review.

I was just gonna comment this 😂
This is like a one of those 4+ sets but huge.
Def looks like one, fits perfectly next to the 4+ Jedi Tempel
They were so lazy with that tree 😂
Great review!

6:50 its coaxium. Its uses to make feul for ships
This feels like a 4+ MBS set lol
i like that lego is giving ambassators the summer/september sets really early. it helps me decide what set i want.
The little blue piece at 6:48 is a coaxium , as in han solo à star wars story ... there was the same in the landspeeder set
The never released version of this set from many years ago is way better in my opinion. It has a better use of space and has a bigger ceremony space to pose all of the guards as well. They really should have modeled this set on that one.

I guarantee there isn't 1 child in the entire world that is genuinely stoked for this set.
It almost gives me Vader’s Castle vibes, just with the general layout of play and the tiny ship.
This will end up being a underrated overlooked set that will be worth a lot in a few years.
I’m impressed they managed to make the old decade old prototype better looking than a brand new set…
170$? That's craaaaaazy.
That water machine thing is a Blue Milk dispenser!!😅😂😂👍👍👍👍 That is SO FUNNY!
This is gonna be a great set! The tree though...
Nice review. I like the set more than I thought I would
6:49 I think that’s supposed to be coaxium. Doesn’t really fit in the set but it’s the same build they used for coaxium in the Kessel Run falcon
11:05 "I wish this set was priced higher". 💀

That price at 170 is laughable. I had a tough time justifying 100, but would have been willing to give them that.
