  • The MP8 engine provides the brawn while the engine and transmission controllers manage the power with an eye to fuel efficiency. Check out the video to see how Mack's two power profiles to give fleets the best of both worlds: performance or economy.

    RE: 13 liter engines. The very popular S60 Detroit was only 12.7 liter, in original configuration, with one of the strongest engines brakes ever. Light weight, loads of hp and torque, awesome engine brake, and great mpg.

    I love my Volvo 730 D13 500HP/1850lbft. Always loaded at 139,500lbs(Ont) with fuel or pneumatics. My truck with 3.25s seems to run better than the 505c+ mDrive w/3.58s in westcan's mack units. Im rolling along at 1325 no complaints. 2.5-2.6km/L at 140k is almost unheard of. I had no fear with the ishift as I spent two years between 15, 18spd and mDrives. Better mpg and at the end of a 16 hour day I wasn't tired. All in al, a better day.

    I don't know: I'm not a truck driver at this moment, but I definitely want to get into trucking in some capacity some day, even if it's just driving a not-for-hire truck tractor as my weekend vehicle. However, that being said, the push for smaller engines, less horsepower, and automatic transmissions, while definitely demanded by governments in many Western nations, is counterproductive in many ways. As a student, you don't want to be just smart enough to squeeze by with a passing grade; as an athlete, you don't want to be just strong enough to throw the ball almost to the wide receiver or kick it to the midfielder; and as a truck driver, you don't want to have just enough power to squeak over a big hill without coming to a complete stop.
    Even though I enjoyed this video series, I think it is safe to say that this Mack doesn't hold the same heritage as the older Macks of years gone by. Despite the fact that this new truck is shiny, full of technology, and state of the art, it isn't a legendary machine like the Superliners and CHs that Mack used to produce. Those trucks are still earning their keep on highways across North America, Australia, and other parts of the world, while these new trucks are living a relatively pampered life in between-city driving on paved highways with good lighting, plenty of signage, and readily available breakdown service. With the old Macks, especially down under, (and I am not an Australian), these trucks are being beaten to pieces on washboard gravel, sand, and mud tracks crossing scorching deserts, bleak mountains, and endless Outback. These trucks are dirty, over used, stretched to the limit in every way, and yet they still perform.
    With a truck like this, it couldn't stand those kinds of challenges, and if it ever was in a more hostile environment, it's lack of power, automatic transmission, and technological gizmos wouldn't do it much good at all. In fact, a truck like this would be in the shop getting a code fixed in its engine computer while an old CH 613 or CL713 pulled loads all season. If Mack wants to prove to supporters of traditional transmission, high-horsepower, limited emissions control trucks that this Mack is worthy of its bulldog emblem, let's see it take on Canada's wild side. Let's see it last a season taking loads on the Dalton highway or fighting the ice of Canada's winter roads. Let's see it haul with the best of them in Canada's frozen oil patch.
    If it can do that and survive, if it can perform just as well as a comparable truck of an older year, with fewer computers, a manual transmission, and a truly powerful motor, then we can say this is a true Mack. But until then, this Mack is nothing special: it's just another truck.

      TheJEF26 dont knock the truck till youve driven one. i run around Ontario Canada hauling 80 - 140000 pounds gross. my new mack is mp 7 @395hp 10 speed eaton. averages 8.2 miles a gallon. my old cl e7 @ 427hp 10 speed eaton was lucky to get 7 miles a gallon. The new engines will out work the e series all day and cost less to run. winner as far as im concerned.

    Could you run in performance mode loaded and economy mode empty and have good performance overall ?

      I run this same power/transmission setup in a 2017 Pinnacle daily. 103k gross weight on an 8 axle single trailer combination at regular speeds of 75 mph. It's performance is absolutely impressive and you really don't need performance mode because the throttle is a 2 step like an old passing gear throttle on an old car that kicks it into performance mode when occasionally needed.

    What is the warranty and maintenance costs on this truck?

    • @jansen7640
      @jansen7640 3 роки тому

      Deleted it will cost you a few thousand dollars in maintenance to get that thing to a million before any major rebuild. Not deleted it will cost you a quarter million dollars in maintenance and a whole lot of down time.
