  • After watching Part One, make sure to watch part two as Jim Park puts Volvo's recently released XE13 drivetrain through its paces on the rolling highways around Raleigh, N.C.
It's man versus machine in part one of this two-part test drive of a Volvo VN780. Driver turned journalist, Jim Park, pits his shifting skills against those of the Volvo I-SHIFT automatic transmission. Who will prove to be more efficient at shifting gears over a quarter mile run up a slight hill? Jim Park, with more than three decades behind the wheel, or the engineers that programmed the I-SHIFT with optimal shifting as their only goal.

i-shift is very good, rarely have to use man mode, only when you cant have any gearchanges on icey hills and so on. it also lack a crawl gear and thats a problem when very hevy and starting at a steap grade.

there's a reason Volvo doesn't make glider trucks. After 800k they belong of a junkyard.

Company I worked for had a Volvo F16 with 2.5 million km on it with NO work but service done to the engine gearbox and driveline. Was
Used to cart 72 tonnes of ore in harsh Nordic condition so not sure why you think they they wouldn't last longer.
