    My abuelita made this nearly the same, with bacon fat from her yuban coffee jar, and with Manteca. He's right, you'll never find tortillas like that at the store.

      Right? I used to put it in a container and then dispose (cause I don't throw it down the sink.) Now I'll keep that lard in the fridge for recipes like these!

      hahahah I just posted my video using bacon fat to cook popcorn instead of oil. It's so good and went really well with my "whiskey juice" lol 🥓🍿🥃 Maybe not the healthiest snack but very good for mental health, I would say lol 🤣

    The amount of people actually annoyed at how he pronounces tortilla is actually concerning. It's not his fake accent, it's just how it's said in his mother tongue. Why do you want the word anglicized so bad when the origin isn't??

    People grasp at literally anything to hate on BA videos, geez. A Hispanic guy pronounces Spanish words how they are meant to sound, that's just too much!

      I love to hear people that didn't grow up here in the states or grew up with nonEnglish-speaking relatives pronounce words that originate from their country with the correct pronunciation.

      I honestly don't mind that he does it. The fact that he doesn't do it all the time and really hits it hard when he does makes it a little grating though.

    • @Hwyadylaw
      @Hwyadylaw 4 роки тому +3

      You either pronounce it in one language or the other (not half-way), and it's a constant struggle between wanting to keep stay in the language you're actually speaking and switching to the pronunciation that feels correct.

    He’s pronouncing “tortilla” right. That’s how we say it in the north or Mexico. Words ending with -illo, -illa, -ito, -ita can be pronounced without the double L or T. Tortilla=torti’a, chile pasilla= chile pasi’a.

    • @philipfahy3589
      @philipfahy3589 6 років тому +15

      In Spanish, all double L's are pronounced as a y sound.

    • @JohnDoe-dh8xc
      @JohnDoe-dh8xc 6 років тому +3

      Philip Fahy Yeah buts kinda like the difference between Wednesday and Wensday, nobody cares. In this care it's even more insignificant because the y sound isn't stressed all that often and is often not noticeable unless heavily enunciated. He says the y sound a little but it's not particularly different iya and ia sound very similar.

    The milk and high amount of fat content is exactly what I needed. My tortillas always ended up too stiff and tough, and wouldn't get that almost laminated-pastry-like tear. Guess I was just being too reserved and need to embrace abuelita levels of fat in my cooking.

      I recently started doing that again. When I was a kid (I'm in my 50s) my mom used to have a little ceramic crock next to the stove for the bacon fat. We used it all the time to cook things like eggs and potatoes. Funny though, we always just poured the fresh grease on top, Don't remember ever using it all up or cleaning it out. For all I knew the fat on the bottom could have been a decade old lol.

    The guy that does the audio mix always has the background music up too high. It is a constant problem with BA's videos. Are you trying to cover up the ambient noises of the test kitchen? Stop! It makes things much much worse. You've ruined a bunch of Claire's videos that way. Don't ruin Rick's as well

I don’t eat bacon every day because it isn’t healthy inside care what anyone says but once in a while I want to indulge so this recipe would be perfect. Trouble isn’t won’t have enough grease. May be I can fry up the bacon and dehydrate it to keep linger for sandwiches and then like?
