Hey Jordan, that was awesome, thanks so much for going to so much effort for Tally Ho! The casting process was really interesting and great to see that 3rd pour come out so well. Can't wait to see it for real! Keep on making those videos, they are looking great. Best - Leo
Also, please send my regards and many thanks to Rod - he seems like a great guy!
@@SampsonBoatCo Rods a good guy. Colabed with Alex Smith at one point.
could be used as a fundraiser 😊👍🏼
Anybody working with Leo and company has me subscribing as soon as I see it, which may be 3 years late but at least I made it here and I'm glad I finally did.
Rod is a treasure. Apparently Alex Steele wasn't paying attention when Rod showed him how to cast bronze.
Worked at the biggest lost wax foundry in the "free" world. Know how to do this. But Rod....... would love to spend a week or two doing this. That guy is a treasure and I would love to soak up his experience.
Hi Jordan, what s great idea to extend your work on Tally Ho and forge the ever so important coin. This is truely in the spirit of Tally Ho‘s resurrection. Thank you for your outstanding work 👍
Very Cool! Great to see one turn out- and so amazing again for Hugh to provide so much time and knowledge to the project. I really look forward to the day your coin is laid down. What luck that only 1 of 4 turned out! that's an example of Hugh's experience.
Thank you Leonardo! It was incredibly lucky, I really hope to be there to watch it go in and help hoist the mast into place. Is was a very tense moment for me as I watched the results live, given how much work had gone in already! Rod was incredible throughout the whole project and I look forward to putting some more time in at the forge! Glad you enjoyed the video!
I took a jewelry casting class in college and learned different ways to cast. The lost wax method is best for detail but instead of pouring into the mold we used a centrifugal device to sling the molten material into the mold. It was a simple device, an arm that pivoted on a spring loaded shaft. You cranked the arm around, attached the mold to the end, poured the liquid metal where it went and flipped the switch that released the arm. It centrifugally forced the material into the mold and you got perfect results every time.
What a great video, the sentiment, design and execution came over as interesting as it obviously was for you in person. Excellent stuff, sir!
Very interesting Jordan, can't wait to see you working on Tiny Tally Ho! Keep it up!
Well done, Jordan! A great effort and it just shows what you can do when you set your mind to it, and thanks to Rod!
Excellent Mr Kimpton! That looked like a tricky process from start to finnish. It was great to see you getting some assistance from Rod. He seems like a very knowledgeable chap. After all that effort I hope Leo invites you back to Sequim to install the coin under the mast, when appropriate of course. :)
That was a really nice video. Cant wait to see the tiny TallyHo. Keep up the good work. All the way from Pennsylvania, USA
Thank you!
Totally absorbing Video.Informative ,Educational, and a Joy to watch.Fantastic work can't wait for the next one
Thank you! It was a joy to make and learn as I went.
Usually when you cast something, you leave a vent hole for air to escape but there are none with the molds you used.
Nice one Jordan!! Great idea to cast the coin from the original bronze, now we just need Leo and friends to finish making the rather nice 'presentation case' for it! :)
Any progress on mini Tally Ho?
Again, a great job man. Hope you can go back for the mast stepping.
This is super interesting.
I approach lost wax casting from more of a jewelry background.
Please explain the reasoning behind doing the casting in this manner, rather than pouring investment around the wax, and casting it in a centrifugal caster.
Impressive what can be done with some very rudimentary methods! Impressive!
I hope you do a lot of build videos on your Tally Ho model. Awesome work.
I will do my best! Thanks for the comment! :)
Wow, that was awesome. What a great way to contribute to the Tally Ho project. Leo really mastered 1 - how to gather support for Tally Ho and 2 - how to document the entire process. Just amazing. Thanks.
Yes! Leo is not only restoring a gorgeous older boat, but he has created a phenomenon behind the whole project. Literally, the entire world is watching him.
Interesting couple of videos, thanks for uploading. Lots of work involved.
really nice work, that coin looks amazing!
Cheers Julian, hope you're staying safe man!
Jordon: Another method is investment casting, where you make the coin out of wax, then attach the sprues and vents, also made of wax, same as done here. But the difference is that it is covered with a high-temperature investment plaster in an investment vessel. It hardens quickly and is placed in a furnace where the wax is burnt out, then placed in a centrifuge where the bronze is melted, then spun into the mold. Once the metal is frozen the hot investment plaster and vessel is dropped in water where investment plaster dissolves and your coin would appear. This is the method of making jewelry - which this Sovereign will truly become. Nothing wrong with the method you used, but I believe you would have had better luck with investment casting. Thank you for the video, and for your efforts in Tally Ho's restoration. Ian
Great work, be proud
Well done Jordan & Rod !
Thank you!
Thanks Frederick
Well done
quality work for a beautiful boat
Fantastic result, well done!.
Hi Jordan, i just subscribed. Good luck on your journey.
fantastic
A little flux and skimming would have helped get a bit better cast
Very interesting process. Thanks for sharing.
Great vid. Where did you get the holder fro the dremmel?
Nice job Jordan
and anyone who next takes the coin gets in trouble for forgery.
It’s been a year... any progress on tiny tally ho?
Hi I'd like to say that I really enjoyed this video. The content was very interesting and I appreciated the end as it was great to see and hear from the person behind these efforts. The Tally Ho! project has brought so many interesting people to come work on the boat and it's awesome that your involvement with her has inspired you to create videos of your own to share with the world. look forward to seeing more and thank you.
thank you
Do videos on the build of tiny Tally Ho...😁
What vehicle is it?
Tally Ho is a sailing yacht
I have a Tally ho coin what’s good about it
You realize this is forgery?
Just exactly my thoughts too. Since the real McKoy is still available albeit at gold value prices, that would surely have been more authentic. It was a lovely gesture and idea but sadly, not to the standard Leo is showing throughout the build.
Please go to KREMNICA with tradition since 1328 y. They will help you to bring your own coins to your fans. Than you could possibly have a marketing goal.
Your music background is distracting and to loud. If you leave it out of your programs it would be better.
What a shame, something important as The Coin, was shot with such mediocrity.
Is it just me? So many people saying fantastic but this was actually quite amateurish casting. Sad that you put your initial work in the hands of such a character. I'm sure he's a great guy but doesn't know much about properly casting.
That's a counterfeit and you'd go to jail and have all your equipment confiscated, here in the US. You will stamp copy on it, right? Sorry to be negative but I'm a coin dealer and these are problematic (fakes) in my industry. What is the purpose of a cast counterfeit when the real coin is so inexpensive?
I thought a 1910 shilling or similar would go under the mast. This is so much better. Well done.
Beautiful job and it looks like the real thing. That’s a very sweet thing to do for Leo and Tally Ho.
Thanks, was great fun to work on.
Very enjoyable video! If I can offer one bit of feedback, maybe drop the music volume while you're talking? It was a bit loud towards the end and made it a little hard to follow what you were saying.
Thank you for the feedback. Agreed. It came out a lot louder in parts than when I was working on it on my laptop. I will make sure to run the vid through a couple of sound systems ahead of release next time!
@@jordanjkimpton9846 When I'm editing I keep the music channel -8db below the speech, as default. Tool sounds are -10db. Then adjust as necessary. Hope that helps.
@@SampsonBoatCo Thanks for the tip man! I was trying to keep it at most half the db of the speech but think I must have missed or lost one of the edits I did to the sound.
Wow ! I missed this vid when it came out. Fascinating!!
Would love to meet and spend some time with the artisan. Old world craft at its finest. Give him my regards !
So did your coin ultimately get under the mast?
I'm suddenly hungry for onion rings.
That was a disaster
I believe the custom must have come from Romans.
There were coins put under each of the constitutions Mast. Gold under the forward mast , sliver under the main mast , copper under aft .
This is wonderful to watch marking this coin for the. Tally Ho
This is really amazing. I’m curious what the images are and what the significance is of them related to Tally Ho- can you please shed some light on the design?
Hi Jordan, sorry I so late to this, that was a great video, and there you go another mental hurdle cleared, really enjoyed that.
Good to see what you've been doing since your time on the Tally Ho.
Its great to see the casting of this Sovereign, 100 years from now that coin will still be under the Tally Ho's mast.
Fantastic video. I vere much enjoyed the casting. Cant wait to see more of tiny tally ho. Will ther be plans available to make are own tiny tally ho models to?
Two great videos and a worthy end product.😀👍 So how is your journey going towards being a shipwright?
I think you need a gimbal/steady rest.
agreed... or a bit more practice :) the whole process was very quick and I'm very new to operating a camera. Getting a steady close up shot can be quite difficult, but I will work on it. Thanks for the feedback!
Sorry I pains me to say but a simple desk fan could save most of the work I just seen.
That was awesome! Will you be able to be there for the placement of the coin?
Good Job
Thank you!
Is it not illegal to mint your own coin? 🧐
Beautiful gesture Jordan.
Great video!
Why put a counterfeit coin under the mast when the rest of the boat is authentic? Thumbs down on this.
My question also.
@@mathyeti A poor copy it is too.
Strange point of view, in that that Tally Ho is being rebuilt along strict traditional lines, but with almost completely new materials. I fail to see how the coin differs, especially as it was made from bronze from the ship. Either one or neither is ‘counterfeit’ by these criteria.
@@chrishalstead4405 In Loe's words, Tally Ho is being restored not rebuilt when finished it will still be the original boat. Leo did a whole video on this subject. On this basis a fake coin would be out of place. Cheers
Hey, come on. Done in good faith by an amateur just wanting to be part of an amazing project; one of an ensemble of amazing volunteers. So what it isn't an original sovereign? The enthusiasm and work that went into its casting more than justifies its place in the boat. Lighten up!
Why didn't you just use a real coin?
Why is Lenin on the coin?
