If your engine will not idle clean jet #3 as shown in this video. I use a wire from a wire brush held with vise grips. A needle works fine as long as you don't hammer it into the jet. It works great to pick out the dried fuel residue. Ethanol is our problem.
Thank You Mr. Ruano for taking the time to make this video. Very informative and even the wave action and other outboards running in the background was enjoyable to listen to. Good Job! Now I have the carburetor fixed, I need to change water impeller... :)
AWESOME! thanks i just got my Yamaha 6hp working great, i couldn't get all the jets out so I used MEK to drop down the holes and it actually worked great, now I'm back to one pull start low idle, thanks!
MACVSOG 5th SFG. I’m pretty sure they are waves, the sound comes and goes too quickly. If they were cars surely the sound would build up for longer as the car approaches and then drop away over a longer period also.
Javier Rullan Ruano I couldn't get it to start and then followed your vid and got down into #2 and #3 jets and cleaned them up. A few pulls later it started back up again after sitting for 3 years. Aloha
I'm having to do this again already. In thinking maybe trash in the injectors. Do you think it would he ok to put in a small fuel filter on the feed line to the carb? I just don't know if it would restrict any flow or something since it's just a vacuum fuel pump..
New to me motor. It wont idle with choke off, when I removed the top plate on the carb the white cap was missing. I've cleaned the entire carb thoroughly except the air mixture which is sealed off with glue, and same problem. I have a feeling it's the white cap that is missing. I have one on order.
This video has some illogicalities. At 4:38 and 5:01 this nozzle has a thread at the top and immediately after, at 5:10 another nozzle appears with a thread at the bottom?
I remember, you have to close it completely, and then give two and a half laps to release it, although a long time ago I do not have that engine anymore and I can not guarantee it...
Assuming that everything is clean, no vibrations, no water clean fuel, the fuel filter and free of foreign matter, the spark plug in good condition and tight carburetor without air intakes. Check down jet , it is likely to be clogged, which regulates the entry of fuel to the engine when idling.
your 6hp is an 8hp, i have both engines. yamaha 6hp 4 stroke 2 cilinder 2001 yamaha 8hp 4 stroke 2 cillinder 2007 the carburateur on the 6hp only opens for 50% and my 8hp has the same carburateur as your '6hp'
i wouldn't have the confidence to undertake servicing my carburetor after watching this, to my understanding the float has to be set which is crucial to the functionality. Also the most important part is missing!! setting the Air to fuel mixture so the engine turnover correctly and idles without cutting out. also carburetor cleaner spray may be useful. The Carburetor has one of the biggest impacts on the performance of the engine, awful pity is so hard to get a proper video on how to service and tune up a Carburetor.
Used this video last night to help get my power washer running again. Thanks for the wisdom!
You are welcome!

Jack Jones umm those are cars lol

Thank you for taking the time to make this vid!!!
Thanks for your kind comment

awesome video thank you !!
Thanks! Worked first pull after following this procedure.
+Bryan Weaver I'm glad to be useful
Hi there, nice video! Do you know what the screw at 2:28 at left of the idle screw is for ? Thank you.
I'm having to do this again already. In thinking maybe trash in the injectors.
Do you think it would he ok to put in a small fuel filter on the feed line to the carb? I just don't know if it would restrict any flow or something since it's just a vacuum fuel pump..
I think it is a good idea, in fact I had it installed and cleaned a lot of foreign elements of the fuel avoiding problems of carburetion
@@JavierRullanRuano do you have one you recommend for such a small motor?
Does anyone know where the function is of rubber cap in one of the plug jets?
??????
This. I found that plug and was confused as well. It blocks the stationary jet?
New to me motor. It wont idle with choke off, when I removed the top plate on the carb the white cap was missing. I've cleaned the entire carb thoroughly except the air mixture which is sealed off with glue, and same problem. I have a feeling it's the white cap that is missing. I have one on order.
@@ericlloyd3481 #3 jet is idle control and also the first to block up
Made my day!
Hi! Could you tell should that air mixture screw be fully closed? or how many times open?
Fully close and then open 2 and a half, if I remember well (5 years ago)
Muchas graçias
Can you show me how to fix Cabrera to faster
Отличное видео спасибо.
Я рад, что это было полезно
Hello from Bulgaria. I have Yamaha F40 - 3 carburators. Can i tune up carburators to put more "horses". Thank you
Sorry I can not help, one thing is to clean a carburetor and other improve their performance, which is very complicated
Exactly what I needed thanks
Thanks, glad to help!
How much horsepower engine.? I have a Yamaha engine 9,9 but thinking that the carburetor 8 hp. Very similar carburetor as video
+Arturas Zebrauskas Yes, I think is the same carburetor.
Hi i have the same carb and I broke my 3 jet can you tell me where I can find a new one or Or a part number or anything thank you.
Maybe this link help: www.boats.net/parts/search/Yamaha/Outboard/2001/F8MLHZ/CARBURETOR/parts.html
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks!

How can I clean the carbs of my 40hp yamaha.
I like it...thanks.
when you reinstall air/fuel mixture screw how many turn do you give it so the motor will start ,,, then you can fine tune once it is running???
I remember, you have to close it completely, and then give two and a half laps to release it, although a long time ago I do not have that engine anymore and I can not guarantee it...
Thank you very much.
it's a good procedure to actually screw it all the way in before removing it, that way you can count the turns and reinstall in the same position.
I have a 5hp yamaha outboard and it's not idling. .really need help
