Hands down the greatest serve on the planet, in my opinion. This technique allows Andy (someone of relatively normal stature 6'2") to reach amazing serve speeds and have a high serve %. It's just so efficient... there's no wasted energy. If Isaac Newton were a tennis player, he would be proud.
@@DonLee1980 We see the same with the pro cricket players. Even the skinny and weak looking ones can turn their shoulder over super easy, allowing almost no resistance as their shoulder rolls over, and they can accelerate really easily.
I love this technique. I am only 5'11" and struggled to generate power/timing and less consistent with a full take back but when I serve using an abbreviated take back I gain a tremendous timing, power and I am consistent. This technique allows me to use less moving parts resulting in less to think about then I can just concentrate more on using my body to drive from the legs.Just need to excerpting my shoulders to keep them strong
serve is all about the momentum you can generate while syncing up the rest of your body with your leg drive. everything has to be in-sync for that nice-feeling flat bomb.
I used to do a full circle serve, but my coach convinced me to skip the circle and just bring the racquet back. I didn't believe in it at first until I saw Roddick do it
to me what's really noticeable is his how is arm never goes back. It stays forwards and on the ball when raising into trophy. and his trophy stays pointed forwards also there is a noticeable pause in this position which a lot of people say to avoid. interesting
When you kick serve and land on both feet instead of 1, you keep in more momentum than landing on 1. It also really depends on how you turn your body because correct follow thru allows max torque.
At this level their balance is definitely good enough with whichever stance they've chosen. For many beginners it's much much easier to teach a good serve with a platform stance (feet not together) because it helps ensure the player learns a proper core rotation.
andy's changed his service stance. his right foot used to come together with his left foot before making contact. are there any benefits from your foot position? perhaps better balance vs. better explosiveness? fed keeps his feet apart too. what do you think fyb?
jw, cuz i know andy's mixing up his serve alot more this year, which is good for him, but what happened to the 140s, 145s? I havent seen him serve past 139 all year? I'm just wondering what happened to the big heater, cuz its good to mix up the serve like he is, but it would be nice to have that big heater in his back pocket when he needs it.
Confusedbanatt, I'm not sure how to respond to your comment. It's not clear that people who comment on UA-cam should entirely dispense with spelling things correctly, and I think that issue has been resolved. See thread below. Also, please don't misquote me, I never once claimed "Roddick's serve wasn't accurate". So he couldn't possibly have refuted any such claim falsely attributed to me. The only persons on this particular thread who used "accuracy" or "accurate" are you and solid96snake.
He refute your claim that Roddick's serve wasn't "accurate" like Federer's. Also, you're on youtube, so don't criticize grammar. Its not like people spellcheck comments.
I don't have a problem with your English if it isn't your first language, I apologize. English is my second language, incidentally. In any case, I have no problem with your preferring Roddick's serve at all. I simply disliked the fact that you called my analysis of whether Roddick's serve being the biggest therefore makes it the best "wrong." Although I suspect this is getting too lengthy and complicated here, as I respectfully suspect you don't really grasp my arguments.
its so stupid when people talk about stuff that has nothing to do with the video....anyway he does have the most powerful but not necessarily the most accurate serve.
Respectfully, this rhetorical question runs on the premise that the fastest serve is somehow the best serve. But that isn't true. Tanner, Philippoussis, Ruseski, were the Roddicks of their days, but they lost plenty of times to better players with weaker (but better) serves: Mac, Federer, and Rafter. So while my critique on the aesthetics of Andy's serve is independent of its utility, his service remains unpleasing to me, and the fact that it is the biggest does not really refute my critique.
I agree but Andy had to know what he was doing and not just slamming serves without purpose all the time. But yeah guys like Fed who could hit a fast serve and variety probably was one of the the top two the other probably number one is Pete Sampras. Both have many Wimbledon trofies to prove. McEnroe maybe number 3 cause he never had a big power serve but had probably the best slider especially on the ad side and no doubt the best disguise with that side saddle unwinding motion.
chabooooooooooooon, lo puse para verlo en camara lenta y en el final del video cuando lo pongo normal se veia lento, me re asusté. Lo que tarde en darme cuenta que no era que estaba todo lento cuando estaba pasando a velocidad normal.
That's not the only problem, this is the WORLD WIDE web. Clearly English isn't the first language of everyone on that goes on the internet, so we should allow some leniency towards bad grammar and spelling. Of course, if they say something crazy like Roddick is a slow server, that's a whole different thing unless they got the words "fast" and "slow" mixed up because, like I said, English might not be their first language. Though there are a lot of idiots anyway that say exactly what they think.
Solid96snake, I think you should first do your best not to misspell 3 words in a short sentence, that tends to detract from your comment's credibility. Secondly, there's nothing wrong about what I prefer anymore than it is "wrong" for you to "prefer a.rodd's servise."
What a hideous service motion... Hate to talk smack about the best American, but this guy's entire package just utterly lacks any aesthetic value. With the exception of the forehand, perhaps.

how is 6'2 average...
i guess u r from denmark XD
bruh even 6'2 is below avg for tennis players? in only 5'9 KEK
@miami 6'2 isn't short for ATP pros, it's average.
it's not just technique. He has a hyper extended shoulder flexibility to allow him to generate more power and speed.
@@DonLee1980 We see the same with the pro cricket players. Even the skinny and weak looking ones can turn their shoulder over super easy, allowing almost no resistance as their shoulder rolls over, and they can accelerate really easily.
Andy Roddick serving is such a beautiful thing.

this is perfectly stated!!

Best serve of all time.
This is an easy motion to emulate that is very short and gives great control, it can be worth trying.
Best set of videos i've subscribed to for learning tennis
Awesome! By the way, I think Any has won all of our hearts at Wimbledon.
This quality is very good for being 2009 or 2010
I wish I could serve like him ^^
There's very little rocking motion in his serve. His movement is almost only down and up.
What a gem
surprised nobody else on tour has this style, maybe some juniors do
Still working to perfect my serve, but Andy has it down!!! Great server!!!
to me what's really noticeable is his how is arm never goes back. It stays forwards and on the ball when raising into trophy. and his trophy stays pointed forwards
also there is a noticeable pause in this position which a lot of people say to avoid. interesting
Bear in mind that I respect him very much as a consistent top tennis player, who is a powerhouse to be reckon with.

Perfect exemple of biomechanics what Rick Macci explained in many videos.

Best service motion evar.
ever*
I agree
He started serving very slowly near the end of the video.
is there one where there's a side view to the serve? I really would like to see how far forward to through the ball
Same Harry G
Wonder what the mph was on those super accurate serves? Maybe 100mph!
Most likely faster.
Probably wayyy faster
I really like Roddick's serve technique- it is compact and efficient!!
andy's changed his service stance. his right foot used to come together with his left foot before making contact. are there any benefits from your foot position? perhaps better balance vs. better explosiveness? fed keeps his feet apart too. what do you think fyb?
i dislocated my shoulder trying to copy his serve. Andy Roddick was a bad man
can you see the mark on the ground as the ball bounces off the court?
jw, cuz i know andy's mixing up his serve alot more this year, which is good for him, but what happened to the 140s, 145s? I havent seen him serve past 139 all year? how fast was he serving in this video?
It's my idol. God save the king.

because they are doing spin serves instead of flat serves
any one know what grip he uses on his serves?

@thekylleroberts 8th grade 130mph? No way
he should be practicing his volleys..
Technically these serves are not so much flat as SLAT..

wow in the slow-mo, you can see the ball losing some of its felt on the bounce :|
FYB 4Ever
these honestly dont look near his top serves more like in the 120-130 range
Ogres sound pleased with the serves
these serves are about 70-90
his record is 155mph

@365to173repubsPWNED haha, i know right. he needs to work on his ground strokes

@XxJohnyNguyenxX lucky butterfly not to be hit by roddicks bullets xD

Ah, this is true, my mistake.

yea honestly idk y i said 120-130.... i musta been really tired or soethign to think that lol

You don't get style points in tennis.
very talented player but bad footwork
