Absolutely love this presentation; seeing it all layed out on the whiteboard helped it to "click" in a way it hasn't before. Thank you, and subscribed. :)
Thank you so much for making these videos. Your visuals and style of teaching enables me to understand and actually absorb the information. Please, keep videos coming. They are addicting and leaves the viewer looking for more. Great job.
These lessons are so valuable! Thank you so much for what you have done and what you are doing! that's all I was mean to see start understand the Bible as a hole rather than separate prices. Thank you so much! I watch one of your videos do my Bible study. They're great precursor that really sets the stage for information I am receiving
Just began a personal journey into the bible. Also my first reading of the bible. And you are huge huge huge help in breaking down how overwhelming it can seem.. Keep up the great work
Jeffrey, You’re so good! Only complaint ever is weak marker color. Bing watching today. Am Catholic. My dad was priest. Attended years of Catechism. Attended Catholic University. No one EVER explained it this well. When I’m done, I’m starting over. Then gonna go again with my Bible table of contents. This is how valuable this is.
Very kind of you to say so! Thanks. I've recently moved, so I'm still setting up my new whiteboard studio-but when that's set up, I hope I'll be able to level up my A/V quality. =)
Maybe I misunderstood your video, and I played it a couple of times. Can you help clear something up? When you first talk about the three catagories of the Epistles you mention that the last column of letters were not known who wrote them or written by other leaders. But later on you mentioned that the letters are written by those that they were named after, such as James, Peter, etc. So they were written by those who they were named after, correct?
Hi, Ed! The Epistle to the Hebrews is notoriously anonymous, hence the "we don't know who wrote them" caveat. ;-) There's a lot more to be said here, of course, which I plan to cover in a forthcoming video on what Christian historians call "The Antilegomena."
"Written by Paul" should be in quotation marks, as only 7 of the 13 Pauline Epistles are considered to have definitely been written by Paul. Four of the others are mostly agreed to be forgeries, and there is some debate about two more.
A slight correction. If I recall, the first 12 followers of Jesus were referred to as the "deciples" in the gospels. The later church leaders and evangelists, like Paul, were self-called "apostles". None of the gospels use the word "apostle", if I remember correctly. This distinction doesn't matter to me as a religious person, since I'm agnostic. I think that later the meaning of these terms became reversed in some manner.
Someday I'll do a video on this topic! But in the meantime: The identity of the author of Hebrews has been lost (and disputed) for a very, very long time. Likewise, there is longstanding (quieter) debate around who wrote the epistle of James: the church is not 100% sure which James wrote it, but has traditionally attributed it to James the Just, the brother of Jesus, who led the church in Jerusalem. I think the debates surrounding the epistles of 1, 2, 3 John, and Revelation is even more interesting. John, the son of Zebedee, one of the Twelve, is the traditional candidate. However, early church writings also refer to "John the Presbyter" as the traditional author of 1, 2, and 3 John. To some early writers, John the son of Zebedee and John the Presbyter were two labels for the same person; to others, they were two different people. The same problem occurs with John the Revelator, the first-person narrator of Revelation. Church tradition has come to assume John the Revelator, John the Presbyter, and John the sone of Zebedee are the same person, but they may have been several different people. First Peter has been attributed to Simon Peter for a very long time, and I'm generally comfortable assuming that this document originated with him. Second Peter, on the other hand, was one of the most hotly contested epistles to ever make it into the New Testament. From almost the very beginning, there were church leaders who agreed that the document was valuable, but seriously doubted it came from Simon Peter. The epistle of Jude has traditionally been attributed to Jude, the brother of Jesus. Some traditions of Christianity believe this person was distinct from Jude the apostle; others believe they were one and the same.
@@OverviewBible Thank u for your effort to explain it. There are a lot of things that I really don't understand (because I'm Muslim ) but I'm trying my best. I like to listen to both sides and then give my judgement.

Thank you so much. I'm obsessed with the original Bible, which probably wouldn't have been even called the Bible. For a beginner, why is everything in Greek? Jesus wouldn't have been speaking Greek, so the earliest gospels were already translations? Someone told me: read the parables, they are more likely to be original sayings of Jesus. I did, but it did not give me much spiritual satisfaction. Then there is so much that's politely called pseudoepigraphy ( read forgeries) that one feels confused. It would be better if those were removed, or clearly labeled.
So who collected and put them all together into one book? Did God do this or the Catholic Church? Why should we believe that any of the Bible was written for us today since nothing in it is addressed to people in the 21st century?
The process of the New Testament's formation is well-documented: you can easily look up the answer to that yourself. (Spoiler: nobody who knows anything about this process believes God assembled the New Testament.) If you're looking for an argument that any part of the Bible was written with the intent of being read in the 21st century, you're on the wrong channel.
Of all the bearers of the words of God, stood in a gallery of his own , a charismatic and the most revered one ever , Jesus, the front and center of the New Testament. While his physical appearance, and his demeanor might have won him some the praises ever, that permeates ever human civilization, and remains the gold standard to many. However, the vast arrays of privileges that he benefits from his dad in heaven, propels him to the highest echelon of human notoriety. With broad power the heal the sick, cast away demons, perform numerous miracles ever recorded in any history book before , mixed with his desire to be glorified, certainly works for him. If love was what has guided him to perform the infinite miracles he was doing, one must wonder of the whereabouts of such a loving passion of his, when the needs are increasingly more pressing than ever? But for for fame he was fishing in the midst of big crowds, ravishing the honor of being called, “Rabbi ,” he certainly would not have done any of those, knowing he is still capable of doing the very same things if he wanted to. Having been all over the place in the description of his nature, and his incessant quest to impress upon the crowd of his followers the awesome power he has at his disposal, explains his hidden agenda, that none of us could have ever thought of. A despot never tells you he is, until he starts cracking down on dissidents, the devils never tell you that they’re out to get you, until they kill you. Just so, anyone telling you about God, or who pretends to be God himself, won’t tell their true desire, until they throw you off of a cliff. The quintessential message of Jesus was love, mercy, charity, short, anything civility entails. But, there is a catch here. What is it? When properly legislated, and implemented , laws are designed to create good people, which means better societies. When with one side of his mouth he tells you to keep his commandments if you like him, while at the time he tells if you do decide to commit anything wrong you want to, then, provided that you acknowledge your fault, forgiveness is awaiting you. Furthermore, our sins have been washed away by his blood, and salvation can only be obtained by grace. If his sacrifice is made once and for all, and we free to come as we are , and we’ll be saved, why not doing whatever we want? What if we knew there were consequences for our actions, don’t you think we would have been more cautious in our actions? If sins have no bearing in our everyday’s lives , then, what are we facing so much hardships? Are they for the pleasure of God, or is it because of our transgressions? Can someone walk in a store, not knowing your size, and not wanting to measure anything, but order the clothes, shoes etc to do their due diligence to fit you best? I bet not. That’s what the New Testament does, and Jesus is the architect, alongside his angels. Consequently, look around you, and observe for yourself.
Truly addicted to your teaching style, gained so much insight from you you've saved me sooo much time thanks a million x
